Just did my first kitbash today, got an extra chainsword and took the sword part off and made a chain glaive for my dark apostle. I also got an extra head from the same box. Really excited to add more and make him crazy
I've only dabbled a little bit in kit bashing, mostly because my bits box is nowhere near as extensive as the average Warhammer player's is. But all the things you mentioned here play into that as well! Being scared of ruining the model is scary, for sure.
I found that sorting bits by type helps with kit bashing, still makes a mess but helps out a lot. And Green Stuff, lots of Green Stuff. Helped me make a Dark Angels Terminator Ancient
I remember the first time I did a weapon snip and glued a space marine shoulder pad on a Beastman for a blood bowl team. I called that "Seeing the light" you see the possibilities opening up and you loose the fear.
I don't understand why people don't like the chest aquila, it's such a common mod but it looks so awkward and empty without it. At least put like a skull or exhuast vent or something in its place.
Its because they all have it. Wasn't a problem with the tacticals because of the variety thru out the unit. But then with the tacticals we complained that we wanted all beakies or all mk7
for myself, I just like the more streamlined look. if people like the gothic there are plenty of bitz for them. I'm on like 50 models deep of Deathwatch Killteams with no winged skulls
Honestly, I don't think GW models are the best for starting kitbashing/modding. They are expensive and also very detailed which requires more skill for your modification to not stand out as something with less definition. Maybe try some cheaper minis start with. They coat less and matching the minis standard of quality is easier. Reaper makes some but i am sure there are othera. You could even 3d print some if you know how to do that, but not how to edit the model.
Yes I checked recently and I can confirm - new blade is very sharp, cuts perfectly, cut into my finger very cleanly.

Love the technique on the power sword. Under-painting the values warm with a cool glaze. Really nice contrast in both value and tone. Super cool.
I changed my exacto knife blade while watching this video.... omg.....why didn't I do this sooner!

Quitting kitbashing ? Never ever. I'm currently working on my "Ataraxius" project. Stay tuned 💚

After many years of trimming bits, my thumbprint probably looks like it's crosshatched due to overzealous knifing. Your marine looks great!
Your skull ring is so cool!!
You think there's a cool story behind it or did she get it out of a gumball machine?😂😂

I can't post pics here, but I've kitbashed a Commander Dante, and glued a full sized skull on the torso. It's the head of the armour's previous owner.

I mostly kitbash space marines and I honestly think they are good for that! But I’ll try with other brands! Thanks!!
9 out of 10 kitbashers quit before making the best kitbash!
