So, for nami, you prefer it sounding like you put the sound through 5 toasters, 60 suns, and put soundproof walls in front of the speaker, rather than humming?
I like how Melodii sounds very consistent now. At times it sounded really good in the old version and at other times it sounded like they were having a stroke. As for stir and mix I like both the Old and the new version.
Also it really improved her dictation for me, idk her old version made it hard to understand what she’s supposed to sing without the subtitles in certain parts
Mostly notice from the new vocals that the robotic "buzz" from their voices are majorly improved. You can actually hear their voices instead of an aggressive autotune and it sounds like they're actually singing instead of buzzing out syllables that 'sound like words' which would be hard to decipher without lyrics. It's not perfect but it's a huge improvement. (PS: It's still pretty hard to understand McWave)
Honestly I really like the old version of stir and mix just because it has more of a lovey doves type of sound but now it’s a lot like them just singing for it. Another thing to point out is OMG THEY REALLY FOXED GREASE POPPING
as someone who has no nostalgia for the old versions because i only discovered this thing existed a few weeks ago i gotta disagree the new version definitively sounds better and has more emotion to it than the old one
@FantasmaNaranja as someone who knew about this in its first version, I agree. Except for Melodii during Grease Poppin'. The old one goes with McWave's vocals well, sometimes. Best example is "flippin' and frying to keep myself from dying". But the old one can make melodii hard to understand half the time. The new one is the opposite of the problem where she's kinda more expressive (in a song that's just kinda lowkey) despite being able to understand her a lot better
I will say that grease poppin is alot better because Melodii's vocaloid sounded ALOT different from their original. But in the new update their vocaloid sounds alot more like the normal one found in other songs, so I like it!
Most of the new ones are an improvement but I prefer the original for Stir And Mix. But I could be biased because the original is what introduced me to the game
It's impressive, yeah, I vastly prefer it. Especially in the first song, where the hiphop vocals are supposed to be in a "flow" intonation rather than a strictly autotuned musical one.
@@rydoggoMaybe its bc you guys are more used to hearing vocaloids, but as an outsider, I genuinely thought the new stir and mix was a person but I can tell that the old one was a vocaloid immeadiately.

If you've been a long time vocaloid fan, one of the things you notice about the genre is that what's considered aesthetically "good" has shifted over time to be more naturalistic and human. Older songs tend to be more robotic, buzzy, and unnaturally high-pitched, while modern vocaloid songs tend to downplay those elements. There's obvious exceptions, but I'd say that's the general trend I've felt in vocaloid music, including in the stuff I enjoy listening to. One big factor there is that the more humanistic tuning is in fact more skillful and difficult to achieve. We have more of that skill now, almost two decades out from when Miku was first released, than we did in the early 2010s. Another big factor is that the newer versions of all different varieties of voice banks make that kind of sound easier to achieve - the samples are better and the software is better at stitching them together now. But difficult execution does not fundamentally make a more aesthetically pleasing work. I know of noise albums that are super technically difficult, but which are way less fun to listen to than your basic 4-chord pop song. I think it's undeniable that the newer vocals in Scratchin' Melodii are more technically skilled - it takes skill to remove the buzzing, and the new ones are for sure more emotional. And if that's your aesthetic preference, then sure, but there are definitely people who prefer the robotic, inhuman qualities, for reasons that go beyond just nostalgia. Losing those qualities changes the *feel* of the songs, changes the aesthetic base, and I understand why people prefer that. Personally, listening to this, I think the additional clarity & emotions in the lyrics are a welcome addition, but the new vocals consistently do this thing where they hold on the notes for half a beat longer than the old vocals did, which makes the whole thing feel less... sharp. See Melodii's vocals in the comparisons at 3:58 and 4:16 - the "stoppin'" and "poppin'" are held longer and slower, to the point where they feel like Melodii's is slurring their words. "Coastin'" and "roastin'" do not have that quality, though, and they're equally as sharp making that line one of the most straightforward upgrades in the whole video. I also think there's just a little too much emphasis on improving the emotiveness of the vocals, and it could be toned down like 10% to a happy medium that doesn't distract from the fact that they're singing. There's a bunch of moments where it feels like Melodii's response is almost inquisitive, instead of declarative - in a call & response song, you want the call to be inquisitive and the response to be declarative. Question & answer sort of vibe. This is the worst in Stir & Mix - arguably, that's the most expressive of all 4 of the OG songs, and dialing it up to 11 here hurts the song as a whole. That said all of this discussion hides the real travesty - the new backing track for Cream Cheese Icing is *so much worse* .·´¯`(>▂
A great take. Personally, I much prefer the clarity and expressive nature of the newer vocaloid systems, however I completely see what you mean about note length.
TBH, I agree with the notes being held way too long... ruins the sharp, quick feel of Greese poppin. But I feel that it's not just the backing track that makes cream cheese icing bad.. I feel it just needs a rework. I do like being able to understand the lyrics (which is what the best part of the old version did well when DJ did that switchup) but at the same time I feel that they ruined that part in the new version for the sake of understanding lyrics... I liked that it went quickly and you had to actually listen in to hear what he was saying
I really don't like the new Cream Cheese Icing. It sounds off. I prefer the old backing track too. And the new vocals for the "You might groovin', smooth and always movin'" section cannot beat the old one. I know the new voice is objectively better, but there's just something missing within the annunciation of the new voice.
UPDATE: I actually like the new one much now. Something happened within me and now I'm a bit confused why I thought the old one was "definitely better."

Icing's new song is much better for sure. Some lines are still a little hard to hear properly, but it's much better than the OG. I definitely prefer the old Nami.wav by far, for both melodii and nami. The songing isn't bad, and it's definitely more clear, but imo that doesn't match the vaporwave vibe nearly as well. I mean, Melodii's singing is much clearer, but now the contrast between their voices is great enough that it just feels a little off for me. It's not bad, just different, I suppose. The new songs are great though. Since they're built from the ground up with new voices, they absolutely nail them perfectly.
@@TZBarton Sorry I forgot I comment this and I feel bad I will delete the comment and besides old version of Stir and Mix is the best of the old versions
@@madden8021 I think a mix of both would be much more ideal. Scratchin' Melodii using vocaloid feels so unique since the only games I've saw that use vocaloid were mostly SEGA games using the Piapro vocaloids.
I think people's preference for the old versions is jusg nostalgia/being used to it. The new version are objectively much better: understandable lyrics, better volume levels, much more skilled tuning. I think Stir and Mix and Nami are somewhat understandable they weren't that bad before, but even then i still think the new versions are improvements and show a better understanding on how to use vocal synths.
is objectively good, but it is useless if you don't take into consideration the original version created by the author, which was created on purpose as in the Mc Wave song, which despite being more consistent, the voice of the beginning matched perfectly with Mc Wave's voice due to being the same software.
Idk, as someone who only recently got into vocaloids (within the last year or two) I still prefer the old version. There's an objective technical improvement in the new version, but I feel like the focus was on making the vocaloids sound as good as possible, not making the songs themselves sound as good as possible. Either way, the effort they had to put in to improve the sound quality had to have been pretty insane
I really like Jamtines new voice as it fits better for the song and character, but I prefer the old version. There’s just something about the old one I like more
@@j.a.g816 no I think I liked it when she sounded more robotic. The other songs sound way better with the new more clean sounding voices but for Jamtine I liked when she sounded robotic for some reason
In my opinion, in stir and mix, Jamtine had a better voice in the old version, but in the new one it is too smooth. In my opinion, I would give the old voice to Jamtine and leave the new voice of our heroine.
Fr on certain parts it sounds off but melodii sounds good its an improvement. Like around 2:28 Jamtine sounds really weird especially around the mixing part 2:54 I know music is subjective but the song sounds so off to me. 3:16 They made melodii more clear which is a good thing but personally I would revert some things because I don't think clarity was really needed in this song. The end of the song (new version) was a nice touch ❤ 3:25
Honestly yeah, I 2nd this on the heroine bit. Especially in Nami.wav they really didn't need to do a worse recording when they could've just swapped melodii's vocals out for the new ones
I think the old one was almost incomprehensible what they were saying but the rythm was better, the new one has more audio quality but its more ´´bland´´ (especially the first song, the others not so much)
i feel like their voices are like too calm, while in the other one while they where more robotic and harder to understand, they had a spark to them@@sammysquid3702
In my opinion, all of them were an improvement except for Jamtime. It sounds way too robotic and unnatural. Now that just may be me too used to yet old one, or that the entire point is to make them sorta robotic cuz their vocaloids, but still. Just feels off, but beside that I have no complaints!
@@Sam-tl4ho NAh, for me I legitimately think it sounds significantly more natural now than it did. It was one of the changes I thought was most impressive.
The originals definitely has its charms, and I wouldn't be opposed to having new songs start off as those and later refreshed to have both as a togglable option. "scrunkly ver." and "rescratched ver." maybe? Edit: I just love the idea that Melodii could be depicted as a younger vocaloid that is trying her best to keep up, its absolutely adorable in my head canon. qwq
I really like how it's not just an Audio updated, they've really updated the graphics too! It's subtle but noticeable ^^ plus the Game play looks so much better too! Hope they keep up with this game
thank you so much for doing them in each scene because unlike other vid comparisons, they would just play them together so the only difference i can see is their animation and not their voices cause they’re mixed together i also felt dizzy looking back and forth to see the difference so i appreciate that you did them individually ^^❤
I'm not sure how I feel about the new vocals. I like that the new vocals have more clarity than the older counter parts but, in some ways the old voice added more character to the songs by being a tad more robotic. It really depends on which song is being played and what section of the song it's on for what's better. I don't really know how I would blend the two versions though to get it to hit the way I'd want it to. I will say though that I kinda hate the way they completely changed cream cheese icing though. It doesn't have the same flow as the old version. Maybe that's just a me thing though.
I’m actually pretty happy with the changes to jamtines song. I was nervous bc it’s one of my favorite songs but they actually some how made her sound even more love struck
It has that old video game compressed voice sound and the filter just fit the vibe way more for me I get the new tuning, but I miss the old version. Too bad the creator removed all the old version of the songs from their channel.
Respectfully, the new versions feel like they sacrificed the melodies/harmonies for better pronunciation. I generally think it's more important for vocals to sound good than to be understandable, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I think the new vocals are great! I do kinda agree on Jamtime’s song sounding a little better in the older version (though Melodii themself sounds great in all the changed vocals). For me it’s mostly the “I want him to be mine,” section that got a downgrade with the new vocals. Cinnabay and Biggie however had a *major* improvement to their song. I could understand someone liking the older version for nostalgia’s sake, but it feels so rough compared to the most recent version.
In my opinion, the quality of the art have more contrast colour and clearer lines compared to the old one, but the old voice still iconic though the voice pretty decent, the new one have more refreshing voice
I do have to say that I miss the older version of Stir And Mix but the new version does sound a lot more clear which is good, and for Grease Poppin melody sounds a LOT better than before, they actually sound like themselves now lol, I love this game
I like the remade of the first and the McWave song, but Nami and the cookie songs were a bit more stylized in their older version, the main char's voice added a funny tone to the musics. The new colors and better details make it all pop more in your face. Overall, 7/10
I love how the update makes the words easier to understand and the characters voices and colors more full of life (Ps I will argue to my grave that the jamitines song just hits different)
I actually like both of them. The 2022 robotic voice sounds good, but the 2023 voice sounds like someone’s actually singing it. I like the 2023 version more(not by a lot, it’s extremely close), but the 2022 sounds pretty good.
I really agree because she sound weird when she says “making cookies for my love I stir and mix” and now it sounds like “making cooies for mayh love ai ster and mix”
At first it sounded weird but after listening again i think it's an improvement. They still have the fun Voca sound, but they put way more emotion into it. It makes the weirdness into a style choice instead of a quirk of the tools.
Also the last song had melodii as this strange and creepy text to speech instead of their actual voice.. which is really weird..! so I’m glad they changed that.. never gonna play this game.. but still.. lol
It’s not the voice that sounds off, it’s the fact that since it’s different, some of the notes are out of tune. Some slight adjustments will most probably stop people to complain about it.
The older ones are more charming and stylized. The new ones do sound (more) like real people singing, but there's something that just flosses the crevasses in my brain with the old vocals.
Honestly wish they didn’t make melody’s voice deeper than before. She actually sounds like a child in the before ver, but the newer version sounds more clear.
The only good thing about the new baking song (I don’t remember the name don’t kill me-) is that when the player character (also don’t remember her name) asks “How exactly long has this butter been out to sit?” It sounds like she’s actually unnerved. That’s the only good thing about any of these-

The new songs are great though. Since they're built from the ground up with new voices, they absolutely nail them perfectly.
Idk I didn’t really like Jamtine’s voice in the new one… Which is unfortunate because that was my favorite song previously.
1:14 melody sounds like a kazoo in the old one

I hope to see the game complete with actual VA's to match the levels of Parappa
@@madden8021 I think a mix of both would be much more ideal. Scratchin' Melodii using vocaloid feels so unique since the only games I've saw that use vocaloid were mostly SEGA games using the Piapro vocaloids.
Ideally, you could switch between the two at any time
@@madden8021the game would loose a lot of its charm if it did imo
At 0:40, i personally perfer the older style since it looks like her face is retracting a LOT in the new one
I think people's preference for the old versions is jusg nostalgia/being used to it. The new version are objectively much better: understandable lyrics, better volume levels, much more skilled tuning. I think Stir and Mix and Nami are somewhat understandable they weren't that bad before, but even then i still think the new versions are improvements and show a better understanding on how to use vocal synths.
is objectively good, but it is useless if you don't take into consideration the original version created by the author, which was created on purpose as in the Mc Wave song, which despite being more consistent, the voice of the beginning matched perfectly with Mc Wave's voice due to being the same software.
you should google what objective means
@dontstealmycontentplease an objective improvement, then, technically speaking.
No, at least not me I like the robotic voices in the older one but I must say they did make such improvement
I really like Jamtines new voice as it fits better for the song and character, but I prefer the old version. There’s just something about the old one I like more
sameee, i think its her voice, the new voice kinda lost its cute charm(?)
nostalgia maybe?
It sounds genuine
They're literally two diff versions for sure. Older version she sounds more lovey dovey and obsessed. Newer version is monotone af

L L L L L L COMMENT
Oh geez. Grease Poppin was rough back then.
4:32 I swear the way Melodii is hanging on the lever is a reference to Sonic bec it looks just like the same exact animation
I think the old one was almost incomprehensible what they were saying but the rythm was better, the new one has more audio quality but its more ´´bland´´ (especially the first song, the others not so much)
nah, i really like more the new version of cream cheese icing, the first was just gibberish half of the song, the new has more syle
I don’t really se how their bland at all
i feel like their voices are like too calm, while in the other one while they where more robotic and harder to understand, they had a spark to them@@sammysquid3702
They focused more on making the sound clearer than making a decent melody tbh. The original songs sounded better in everything but quality
@@hoxiipoxii56 again I disagree, I think I sounds way better on every level
In my opinion, all of them were an improvement except for Jamtime. It sounds way too robotic and unnatural. Now that just may be me too used to yet old one, or that the entire point is to make them sorta robotic cuz their vocaloids, but still. Just feels off, but beside that I have no complaints!
That’s wild, because Jamtine sounds DRASTICALLY more natural in the new version to me 😮
@@Lovingmadjomit feels like the change was made to make it more natural, but the change had the reverse result
@@Sam-tl4ho NAh, for me I legitimately think it sounds significantly more natural now than it did. It was one of the changes I thought was most impressive.
It’s because the new voice is more exxagerated
I actually think the opposite, I recently discovered this game and the old one feels so off compared with the new one for me
3:34 the old one sounds like some vhs tape
3:29 Finally, Melodii has her normal voice
3:09 I barely understand old version Melodii
I love the new vocals sm..they were impossible to listen to before now i can sorta understand what theyre saying without captions
Honestly, I like the old ones except for when their voice is just become physically impossible to figure out what noises they’re making
The originals definitely has its charms, and I wouldn't be opposed to having new songs start off as those and later refreshed to have both as a togglable option.
"scrunkly ver." and "rescratched ver." maybe?
Edit: I just love the idea that Melodii could be depicted as a younger vocaloid that is trying her best to keep up, its absolutely adorable in my head canon.
qwq
It seems that they changed Melodii's voice in several songs to make it more consistent
I really like how it's not just an Audio updated, they've really updated the graphics too! It's subtle but noticeable ^^ plus the Game play looks so much better too! Hope they keep up with this game
thank you so much for doing them in each scene because unlike other vid comparisons, they would just play them together so the only difference i can see is their animation and not their voices cause they’re mixed together
i also felt dizzy looking back and forth to see the difference so i appreciate that you did them individually ^^❤
1:15 Melodii sounds like she’s nasally congested
The improvement to Melodii specifically is amazing!
Those are not "old voices" , those are the same voicebanks just with better tuning
I’m actually pretty happy with the changes to jamtines song. I was nervous bc it’s one of my favorite songs but they actually some how made her sound even more love struck

3:23, I really like the "I love you" part of the old version. PLEASE GIVE IT BACK!!!!
Respectfully, the new versions feel like they sacrificed the melodies/harmonies for better pronunciation. I generally think it's more important for vocals to sound good than to be understandable, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
but it does sound better, the voices are much more on key
HOLYY THE TUNING ON THE VOCALOIDS IMPROVED SO MUCH
I prefer the old stir and mix melodii and jamtine just sound better in that song when they sound less robotic
I kinda miss some small details in the old ver. like the cute art in the pop up windows 0:33 and being able to see the side of Nami's eyes at 0:42
Yea the old art of that scene at 0:42 was way better idk why they’d change it

The tuning really improved on these. I wonder if they even bought newer voicebanks for some of these... if not, that's even more impressive!
1:50 *wait this isn’t it what the fuck*
I’m so excited for this game to come back because I loved it last year!
I can really hear melodiis improvements! I really like her new voice!

Holy moly these songs improved so much!
I really like the old voices. The robotic vocoloid sounds adds to it

this line hits hard
I like the remade of the first and the McWave song, but Nami and the cookie songs were a bit more stylized in their older version, the main char's voice added a funny tone to the musics. The new colors and better details make it all pop more in your face. Overall, 7/10
2:00 how long have this butter been out? *the butter turns into a fucking huge buff man*

The Old Ver For Stir And Mix Actually Has A Much More Lovey-dovey Vibes Than The Newer One
i love the new ones so much

I really like Melodii’s new voice in grease poppin’. The old one didn’t even sound like them and I’m glad those vocals got replaced
