    We’ve reached the pinnacle, folks! I can retire now. This is an automotive experience I will never, ever, forget. The Twizy is so happy, so flawed, and so perfect. As soon as I can buy one in the US it’ll be my daily driver. Throw the dog in the backseat, ha! Thanks for watching and thanks for subscribing, we just crossed 30k subs today! 🍻

      You should have driven the Citroen Ami and Carver One, those are the really crazy cars in that segment.

    • @loriallen67
      @loriallen67 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But do you like it better than your Smart Car OR the Arcimoto??? I want an Arcimoto really badly. I’d take a Twizzy.

      Cross country road trip?

    • @buddy1155
      @buddy1155 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@loriallen67 Twizy, Ami and Carver are low speed cars, you can drive them at 14 or 16 year old (depending on country).
      A Smart and Arcimoto you can take on the highway (there is a 'fast' Twizy as well, unchipped 80 kmh).
      Arcimoto, and Smart, are both overpriced.

    • @loriallen67
      @loriallen67 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buddy1155 the Arcimoto will be cheaper once production is achieved. The Arcimoto has a better range and top speed. Living in a metro area, I need to be able to get on the highway occasionally. I don’t see the Twizzy doing 70 down the freeway.
      I wouldn’t put my kid in a Twizzy even if it was legal to do so.
      The Smart car is overpriced. Bigly.

    I owned one for a few years … those built until mid-2016 were hackable over the OBD port and you could pretty easily bump the speed/power/torque/regen a good notch, you’ll still be limited by the SEVCON inverter anyways and the fixed ratio to the motor which can’t go over 17krpm (you should check out the OVMS project, which supports many EVs as well)… It was a perfect fit for cramped cities like Paris despite vandalism (my right glove box ended having a definitively broken lock, and I did have to pull out some curious dudes a couple of times) … my back needed something softer in the end and I grew too old to not have a heater, so I sold it, pretty well actually. I’ve heard some people got them imported and vetted by their DMVs as a neighborhood vehicle (whatever that is) a buddy of mine in LA/Rancho almost tried but I think he got concerned by the lack of comfort before the administrative hurdles … oh, and you’ll need to get one without the battery rental in all cases . Fun facts: I drove it to a meeting at Renault HQ near Paris, I had to enter the visitor parking by backing up because they scanned license plates, and the Twizy normally only has one in the back. The former EV program director told me he had printed his license plate on paper to wave it at the parking cameras. And it made a pretty nice impression on the Interpol band as well, they were all going around it after a concert, and some had a drive in it ;) They became friends since then

    I died when you honked that horn. All serious though my first memory of EV's was at the NY Auto Show in the 90's talking to an employee (owner I believe) of the Sparrow EV. How they are still around is beyond me but their passion at the time for electrification was remarkable. You should reach out to them! I'll bet they're easily the longest running EV company in the US. They deserve a chance.

    The Twizy is almost my everyday urban “dream car” as well. It makes so much sense for these short trips in the city. I just wish it were narrower, not to split lanes but to go around stopped traffic more easily (e.g. cars waiting to make a turn). Please test drive the Carver if you can. Also hope AKO makes it to market.

  • @MasterJim2020

    When I lived in Madrid the Twizys passed me on the street every day. They were made in Spain. I remember one for sale second hand in a Renault dealer for $4995 - a white one, perfect condition. This is a great formula for a car and Renault should have pushed them more. But they were far too pricy. I am a bit surprised that other makers have not moved into this space. I would be more interested in buying one of these than a big hunk of metal to sit outside my door.

    • @jaxxdotorg

      The brakes aren’t assisted, and have no ABS, they do manage to lock if you press hard though…. Hopefully the frame is good enough, I have been rear ended by an uninsured truck, right in front of the cops hopefully, I literally flew across the intersection (that’s what the cops said) and in the end, besides a quick hop to the hospital by safety, the Twizy had nothing more than a thorough checkup and a bumper replacement (+a few minor things, lamps/lights, wheel hub)
