Great journey, thank you! Did they make sure everyone was out of the viewing car through the Tawa tunnels going in/out of Wellington? I noticed they didn't mind for the Poro'o'tarao tunnel in your trip, unlike GVR who makes us go inside for safety in that tunnel. Cheers!

Yes, no one was in the viewing car through the Tawa tunnels - on the northbound trip, it opened a few minutes after passing through.

When was this filmed? Im curious to know what the future is for those poor old SD driving cars.

This video was filmed last month. The SDs shown here have no solid future plans, however some are earmarked for unknown future plans.

Shame there’s no regular intercity service between the two cities, otherwise we would’ve seen something like this: 28:10 at playback speed x2

Took this trip November last year...Very disappointing with the overall experience. Seated in the dreaded Carriage D, isle seat with a poor young lady with the window...felt very uncomfortable for the whole trip. Seats aren't great, also had uncontrollable kids running up and down the train until the manager finally made an announcement for parents to reign them in. Glad to get off the darn thing in Wellington. Wouldn't recommend it if you travel alone and are male.
