Thank you. Be safe. And don't buy used gear box for1 year, because finally you are going to buy new. I paid twice, it's enough.

My steering gear box was from 2008, it has 1,200,000 miles. It slowly began leaking little by little and only during maneuvers. A new one costs about $1,600. A repair kit costs about $300 + work. A mechanic with experience did not recommend the repair kit because he said it would not last long. I changed it for a used one in 2010. After 3 months, the steering gear became a little humid (not leaking, just with moisture) in the place where the seal is. I think that a steering gear is made to last 7 years, then the seals start leaking with age. I don't recommend replacing them with used.

The freightliner dealer has 3 times cheaper price on the part(around $700 for the part)

I'm a driver/owner/shade tree mechanic!!! But I have been kind of slow to tackle my steering gear box. Thanks for the instructions! I'm pretty sure I can handle it now! However, I really would like to know the torque specifications on the mounting bolts. Thanks again.

Hello. Please ask your dealer when you buy a new. I did just air gun torque 500 lbs max and marked white paint. I checked after 100 -1000 miles. The gear box mount static. Remember first I installed used gear box. In one year was same problem. And I bought new. And I did same labor. Be safe.

I had one review. One man used kid repair steering box for a while.

Updated 01/08/18. I replaced the old one with a new one. #3596197C92, HD94PD3,17F20131. And this new steering box had steering liquid inside (I think). I went back to the dealer mechanic, who checked my VIN and told me it should be 15W40 oil. But the sales rep told me nobody uses oil for the steering box, it should be steering liquid.
