That rapid finger-picking in the background is a banjo. Bernie Leadon played lead guitar (among other stringed instruments) and that is him on the banjo. Bernie preferred the country flavor to Eagles music and Glenn Frye came to want to go more towards rock. Long story short - Bernie recruited Don Felder to Eagles, before Bernie quitting and being replaced by Joe Walsh.

Co-written by Glen Frey and Jackson Browne. And 7 is about to become 8. The instrument you're describing is a mandolin, and it's often used in bluegrass music. There is no mandolin in this song. You're hearing a banjo, which is also used in bluegrass. This was the first Eagles song as far as I know. It was Glen Frey on vocals (pronounced like fry.)

    • @stevevasell429
      @stevevasell429 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I disagree. The instrument is obviously a banjo.

Yes, I mentioned mandolin in reference to Harri recalling a “small ukulele like instrument” when trying to recall the term “bluegrass.” Most definitely banjo, also found in many bluegrass orchestration but definitely does not sound as a mandolin or look vaguely like a ukulele. 🤣

This was the first single by the Eagles. Also the first song on their first album. The "guitar" you're referring to, as others have said, is a banjo, played by Bernie Leadon. Glenn Frey did they lead vocals on this. His last name is pronouced "fry", not "fray". As for the women, four want to own him, two want to stone him (not clear if that is the traditional stoning or if it is more in keeping with the drug culture of the late 1960's and early 1970's), and one says she's a friend of his. This song is about being a free spirit, so you can take it for granted that he doesn't want to be "owned". So you can disregard those 4 women. The two that want to stone him either want to kill him or want to get high with him. The last says she's just a friend. So, none seem to be anything serious in a romantic sense.

"Take it to the Limit" is probably my fav Eagles tune. There's a LOT of contenders for that title, though. Real hard to go wrong with them. It is unfortunate how much they choose to block, but well, rights holders gonna do what they're gonna do.

I frequented a punk, goth club called The Limit in Sheffield in the eighties and nineties. Our cue to piss off at the end of the night was the DJ breaking off from the usual genre and playing Take It To The Limit we staggered out 😂😂

  • @CaptainBakerJason

You are likely referring to the genre of music known as Bluegrass. The instrument is a mandolin that has typically 8 strings and is most often tuned in the manner of a baritone guitar. 👍🏻

Always sounded like a banjo to me 🪕… glen sang it…and their sound as a band definitely started more California-country-rock-ballads and with the addition of joe Walsh they went into harder rock that and operating in “life in the fast lane” landed them in “Hotel California”

The Eagles music, a lot of times seemed to float between rock and country, I always called it 'country rock' because the songs would get air play on both, the country stations and the rock stations. I don't know if you've done a reaction to a lot of their music, but, there IS some rockin' music by them, "Life In The Fast lane" is one "Victim Of Love" is another and of course the one everybody seems to think is their best song ever, "Hotel California", and one more for good measure, "Heartache Tonight", which Bob Seger was apart of. Thanks for playing this song, really enjoyed it!

The harmonies are what make this number so good. I never even thought of them as "Country" for years, I just thought of them as Eagles, a great radio listen. Someone had to tell me they were pretty Country before I made that association. Like Creedence, they were a California band with a love of those more Eastern sounds.

Next year, 50 years since this was released!
Produced by Glynn Johns in London, UK 🇬🇧.
The late Glenn Frey sang lead vocal.
Written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey. JB got stuck with a line. GF finished it. JB decided to give his Topanga Canyon neighbor credit as a writer! ✍
Drummer and guitarist Don Henley had problems with Glynn Johns.
The instrument you heard is a banjo. It is used in many country songs. This style is country rock. 🤠
Do not count the banjo as an instrument for Keith Urban: he plays a ganjo.
Suggested next Eagles song with Glenn Frey singing lead vocal: Peaceful Easy Feeling. 🤠
Caution: You will need to interrupt any Eagles or members of The Eagles songs with your comments. The Eagles esp Don Henley block music. 😖 See the Rick Beato videos on TH-cam for details.

It's got a bit of a blue grass sound. The original cut of the song had banjo in the mix when Bernie Leadon was in the band. Later when Leadon left and Joe Walsh joined, they dropped the banjo in concerts. Glenn Frey sang this tune. It was their first hit. Frey and JD Souther finished writing the song that Jackson Browne started.

You can see the girl in the flat bed ford, but only in the mural on the building wall there as a reflection of the real flat bed ford parked there. I was there Jan 2018...on the way back from Phoenix AZ. Of course we took the tourist photos. Some college girls had stopped there on the way somewhere so we took turns taking pictures of each other....a generational moment of commonality. We were old enough to be their grandparents, but both parties had big laugh about how ridiculous we must look to the locals.

Specifically, a 5-string banjo ( compared to the 4-string plectrum banjo most commonly seen/heard being strummed as part of a jazz-style orchestra) being played in the Earl Scruggs' 3 -finger "Bluegrass" style, as opposed to the more traditional frailing/"clawhammer" style ( heard extensively in the soundtrack to Ken Burns' extraordinary Civil War series). Please note/be aware that the songs getting blocked is mostly due to the owners of the recording rights being extremely fixated on blocking use of “their” music on TH-cam. And those “owners” are usually the record companies, in this case Warner Music.
Most artists are totally fine with videos like yours as they knieband understand it’s actually promoting their music and it’s done with respect for the music.
