With each winter that passes and the XM2 is on the shelf I worry that this year might be it's last. There is hope here though for sure but whether or not I will resort to this we shall see. You're doing gods work btw keep it up
Great project. If you overheat cables, you change the capacitance, hence signal will be affected. Try wrapping a video cable over a hot radiator or pipe. You should see the signal degrade. It might also restore once it cools down.
Have you had the problem: the PowerPlay is getting distorted color on the VX1? Im baffled. I just got my hands on one and now the video signal is messed up (colors, exposure). I plugged the RCA and AV in according to how you show it.... hmmm
I’m just waiting on my power play to arrive but I’m so scared to do that with the cables but the one I got was 6 feet so disappointed because it said 3.5mm
I have the Canon GL2 and have tried to connect it using firewire to 3 different Macs of different ages, and I can NOT get it to work. DO you have any suggestions? I love this mod you created and I watched the other videos too. I would just love to be able to at least copy over my old recordings. Any input would be appreciated!
I guess the firewire port on the camera might be broken? You can put the tapes in any other miniDV camcorder to transfer without affecting the quality - so id try that next
@@NEONAIRSHIP I do have another JVC with FireWire output, and I tried it on my different Macs with the same results, nothing. I did order a new FireWire cable to test and make sure it not the cable. I’ll post if that’s all it is
I'm not sure if you have the same problem but mine was that I was in Monterey MacOS and apparently they discontinued compatibility so you have to downgrade to Big Sur Mac OS youtube tutorials helped
@@jakedcl I have tried several older versions of MacOS, and none seem to work. I am thinking of ordering a bunch of new cables to be sure its not defective cables.
There is a setting to turn off the icons. Hit the Menu button, got to ETC, go to display, and just click lcd. It should only display the icons on your lcd and not thru the power play or whatever you have plugged into the av ports.
@@NEONAIRSHIP I know a bunch of us would agree on this. I'd also pay for a custom shortened cable as I cant solder myself. Luckily not having an issue with that but I can see how it might in the future unexpectedly.
@@NEONAIRSHIP I clicked that bell so I'll definitely be watching. Wish I could give you a hug. Just copped a vx and the tape deck went out on me within 20 minutes. I love how you take the time to actually make things looks professional.
I was hoping you'd address the cable issue! I've been loving the powerplay otherwise on my gl2! Thanks again for the hard work!

Great Stuff!!! Been having so much trouble trying to find vx1 head drums!!! But this....... ohhhhhhh boy....

Didn''t know that.. thanks for the tip!
Want to do this shit with my VX so bad, would you ever consider selling a full kit?
I'm gonna look into it!
I got a powerplay and I get audio and a clear signal with the 3.5 jack pugged in all the way. I'm using a vx 2100.
If you could consider selling the Mounts and Cables I think a lot of us would be interested in buying.
^ what he said
you’re the best man

Hey guys what’s difference between using 3.5 rca female/male and 3.5 av cable?
I’m just waiting on my power play to arrive but I’m so scared to do that with the cables but the one I got was 6 feet so disappointed because it said 3.5mm
Lol wut
@@NEONAIRSHIP like how you cut the cables
Does the 3D mold work on GL1s aswell??
Bro, can you work with a firewire?
I also made a vx1e that is tapeless!
Thanks so much dude
do you just push play on the camera or on the dvr module
do u think this would work with a gl1?
great vid btw
Yep for sure
man, can you do a video on your gl2 settings? looks amazing compared to mine
Thanks mate, I don't do anything special - I tweaked the brightness/contrast/saturation in post a bit. Same thing I do for HD footage really
Make sure u white balance

will this work with a sony TRV900e?
Yep!
does the powerplay dvr work with the canon xh a1? and if so, you think there are any big quality differences?
It'd work but I wouldn't recommend it, you'd be downscaling HD to standard def
Hey, does it work only with the vx/gl2 or with every mini dv cameras ?
It should work with any camera that has an AV output connection available
anyone with a vx2k/ 21 figure out how to use the powerplay, and not have the camera power cycle? Also is there a setting to turn off the icons on lcd?
i think you just have to swap from video to vcr every so often.

Found out you have to hit the record button instead of zoom out every 9 minutes
do u skate?
Yeah man
dude u should sell mounts
Thanks dude, I was thinking about it. Might set something up in the new year!

@@ivanargueta5385 I just tried any 3.5mm audio jack cable and it works. I was not checking the quality into details or the difference, but it works.
amazon germany sells this little thing....auvisio VHS digitisation: video recorder with analogue inputs, colour display, USB, SD, 60 b/sec. (video digitizer).
Good find! I think it's a bit more expensive and would require external power but I'm sure it would work well
super helpful stuff, got a pd150 and think I am gonna go with this solution. Does everything thing I need and then some
hey i bought a pd150 today and was thinking of doing exactly the same things, any update?
Fuck man, I'll pay you for that mount. That is brilliant
Working on setting up a web shop, hopefully this week - just tweaking my printer so its not all jank like in the video :D
Please do dude, you'll be my hero.
Thanks mate I'm on it, got another solution for the cable issue in the works too. Will announce on the channel ASAP
