It's $200 now on amazon. A true iPad and android killer. A full PC tablet that comes with the keyboard/trackpad for $200 is a excellent deal.

I love you Lisa! I used to watch your channel just for fun when I was in middle school and high school. Now that I’m an adult in getting into the electrical engineering world and starting college. I was using this computer the other day and I was smacked with a memory of you reviewing it (because that’s how I decided to buy it). You have an amazing personality and I love your videos. Very happy to see you’re still making them!!! Much love ❤️💕

I've owned one for about a year and LOVE it. It is a great value when considering price point vs features. Having an aluminum case would certainly be nice but it is completely livable as it is. If the shiny top bothers you you can resolve this yourself using a lubricated fine abrasive pad to knock off the shine. (Use very light minimal effort only, don't overdo it). I have had no issues mentioned here with the touch pad or unresponsive/over responsive key stroke problems. I would speculate that at this point Asus has probably debugged the problem now. This video was review was made several months before I purchased it. I should mention that I also purchased a second one several weeks later for my wife. Again, no problems whatsoever. I also love the fact that there is a full sized USB3 port on the keyboard. This makes it extremely easy to load in software using an external disk drive.
The one pet peave that I do have involves the micro SD port. It's function is flawless but the leading edge of the card protrudes enough that it would be nearly effortless to accidentally bump it causing the card to spring out and launch out into reality-space. This could potentially be a disaster if you happen to be on the go and the card pops out without your knowledge. Not only would you loose your data on the card but the expense of the card itself. Unfortunately this is a common issue with many tablets and all manufacturers need to address this problem. A simple built in cover is all that is required and Asus should recognize and correct this. To resolve this I actually made a cover myself out of a small piece of heated and then bent thin plexiglass attached with crystal clear double-stick foam tape. My cover looks acceptable and keeps the card safe. With the built in 64 gig memory coupled with the 64 gig micro SD I now have a generous amount of memory to work with.
Overall I would have to give this device a very high B+ or low A- grade. Some may find this to be an overly generous rating but you must consider that the machine does do exactly what it was intended, what more can you ask for with a price point of $400? It would not be fair to compare it to much more expensive machines.

MobileTechReview I absolutely love your reviews Lisa. Your reviews are right up my alley and I have purchased products based upon your reviews. I had the Android version of this and was not satisfied as the speaker/audio quality was very poor, it would not run MS Office (oddly my Note 3 can???), you are spot on with the battery life and the length of time it takes to charge. One thing on the Android version is that the keyboard was surprisingly responsive. I am exchanging my Android version today for the Windows version as I need something for school and play (iHeart, DirecTV apps, TH-cam, etc...) that I can take on the go instead of lugging around my 16" laptop.

Since MS-Office is what she uses daily, this system is her ideal tablet and my ideal price point... got it for $319 with Windows and Office at Best Buy. Battery has been lasting about 9hours.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for another great review. Just picked up this device today. FYI..the screen will get much brighter if you turn "off" the automatic screen brightness located in the "Power and Sleep" settings within Windows 8.1. The default is "on." You'll see an immediate difference. Take care. Long time fan!

Just in case anyone is interested, the main differences between SSD and eMMC are the number/capacity of NAND memory modules and the ability of the controller to effectively use them. 120GB SSDs actually have 128GB of NAND, but 8GB are used for speeding up write operations and replacing dead cells.

That is what I really like about your reviews. If another reviewer received a defective product, they would have sensationalized the defect as their discovery and warned everyone. I appreciate that you did not sensationalize it. You reported it, because you had to, but did not allow it to dominate the review, and gave an honest assessment that your sample may not be representative.

I just bought this laptop. The flakey issues aren't here on mine from a Canadian retailer. I love it. I was using a netbook before. This one is very zippy and the hinge/ keyboard combo is really tough and robust. I agree with everything said in this review. She didn't mention the battery life which is very good, but it takes a long time to charge. Better plug it in at night before bed.

the one in review i think is the first generation of asus transformer book t100. the second generation that has more color like red, white and gray is much faster with a new intel atom z3775. my friend says that the issues from the first generation was resolved or reduce in the second generation. so if you are planning to buy this make sure you get the unit with intel atom z3775

+william northcote actually they are the same price but the z3775 is faster when processing speed is being discussed. asus now comes with a 64gb for the tablet and 500gb memory on the keyboard options. in my country it was around 21000 php now you can buy it for 13000 php so just imagine if its in us dollars right

    • @profirfan7315
      @profirfan7315 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+william northcote i suggest you read the specs first before buying and research on the model you need. well imho the model with the z3775 processor is better ang opting for a 64gb tablet with 500gb hdd version is so much better

I know a few people are not fans of this device but i have owned one for release in the uk and think its a great secondary device that i take everywhere in case i need to view some documents, browse the net or do some windows store gaming.
I compare it to chromebooks, rt tablets, android or ipads.
its way more functional that a chromebook as it has full windows, comes with a touchscreen.
gives you more options that a rt tablet and is cheaper!
has multiwindow without having to buy samsung with touchwiz, this has a pure operating system which gets updates promptly.
i am generally an android user and will only buy nexus devices due to updates but the lack of multiwindow on a large tablet in 2013 just doesn't cut it anymore.
having a micro usb charger means i only carry the one charger for my phone and laptop.
i have the 32gb and its actually 40gb as it has a 8gb drive with contains the recovery so you are left with around 14gb of free space which in todays world of cloud storage is easily enough.
The biggest thing for me is the choice is mine, i install what i want, if i don't like the OS i can change it! its not just an over sized phone OS

I have one of these that I got with a college grant, it's so convenient for school. I just love this thing, I spend more time on it than my full sized gaming laptop. Awesome buy, awesome product. I also want to add I never have a problem with the keyboard like you mentioned. My dock seems pretty solid and it has no issues so far. I have only had it for about 2 weeks now. I also want to add to be careful with the power button, it might just be me, but sometimes it sticks down. I might be pushing it too hard however. Overall though I am in love with it. Also yes, for anyone who is looking to buy one and is curious about the sound capabilities, it's a lot louder than my moms iPad, and I mean a LOT.

I have one and really like it. No keyboard issues. ASUS didn't ship the final version with the capacitive Windows button on the tablet. Only the strangely placed hardware button. Got a 64gb model from Amazon for $349.00. Charging does take overnight , but I only have to charge about every 3rd day with moderate use. Build quality is questionable, when you can see light from the screen emitting from virtually port on the tablet, you have to think some things were overlooked. Overall, price/value is great for what your are getting. A worthy product for the road warrior productivity person or a great all around tablet for the couch potato at home.

The detachable tablet is a bit heavy wish they made the keyboard slightly heavier so it would be balanced out. I closed it the wrong way and it didn't quite the right way and the glass cracked I got it fixed and sadly lost the touch screen, however, I added a mouse and its amazing with a mouse and now am figuring out how to attach a monitor. Great little extra computer and can act as your main in a tight squeeze, I've had it for years and my computer conked out, and thank G-d for this little gem.
    Def add a mouse.

Asus uses Sonic Master for sound. You get some bass but this is a small product so it won't sound like a 15 or 17 inch laptop with deluxe audio when it comes to bass. Pretty good for a 10" tablet though and remarkably loud.

The beauty of these windows 8 tablets is the ease in which you can remote to your desktop / gaming rig. If you are at home just use Steam's In-home streaming platform or away from home use RDP. The other big advantage of tablets such as this is that it will play older games natively which are far superior to any mobile options & with GOG including any required emulator it is easier than ever.

Great device though, and an amazing value for the money. Would love to see an updated version next year with 11 inch screen, bigger and backlit keyboard and maybe slightly better specs. But this thing is great for my purposes.

Good review. I'm considering a Win8 tab (Pro, not RT) since my laptop just broke, but I have a few questions
    1. Can I download iTunes and sync my iPhone and iPad?
    2. If the answer to the first question is yes, I assume I could jailbreak my devices, as well?

***** a gameboy color is a computer in brick form. Anything that can run any form of program is a computer. A better way to say that would be "a surface pro is a full desktop PC in a tablet form. Nothing less. But more with its portability, touch screen, and camera".

Is this a good device if I only want to use this for Office, AutoCAD, Catia and some notes (drawing and writing with a stylus)?

    • @johnxue4468
      @johnxue4468 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. It doesn't come with a stylus, but the touchscreen is somewhat accurate even if you're not using one.
      2. It probably won't be powerful enough to run CAD programs like AutoCAD and Catia (especially rendering), but MS Office is quick and snappy.

Finally! The Bay Trail is what MS and intel should of launched with. I am looking at the 8inch Win8 tablets but Desktop may be unmanageable that small. So 10 inch it is.
I think MS has a winner here, and they should of tried better to advertise. This does what iPad + Android couldnt. Unfortunately Windows phones arent as open as their tablet counter parts

I was disappointed that the keyboard dock didn't have an extended battery. That has been the main selling point for the Transformer line. Getting 16hrs of use is awesome on my TF (Android) tablet.
I think they need to bring out a Prime model. Double the ram to 4Gb, upgrade the screen resolution (DPI) / quality (brightness), add a little bit better quality to the materials, and drop in an extended battery to the dock (plus put larger speakers in the dock). That would give the Surface 2 Pro a run for its money. Price it at $600 or $700.
Hopefully the next (T200?) version comes and is a little bit better. I know they did this with their Android Transformer line.

Lisa, excellent review - and thanks for including Photoshop. I'm pretty impressed with how well it looks like it can handle basic editing functions. Quite frankly I didn't think this machine would have enough "umph" to handle Photoshop at all, but it certainly seems capable enough for those times where I'd like to do post and I'm not in front of my primary machine.
And finally a real OS on a tablet. I'm retiring my ASUS FT101 which has served me reasonably well solely to consume media and as an ebook (pdf) reader, but this is a whole new ball game. I'm hoping this can be upraded to 8.1 Pro so I can join a domain and use RDP - that would be icing on the cake. I wonder how well it will run VMWare as well and if the 8.1 Pro upgrade isn't doable, perhaps I can possibly toss an XP or Windows 7 Pro VM on it and be good to go...

I was quite disappointed once I got my hands on an actual T100 at Best Buy. It definitely has a Fisher-Pricey feel to it, which I wouldn't mind but it felt very vulnerable to breaking.
The Best Buy test unit's volume rocker was busted to the 'turn volume louder' position (the function, not the button itself), giving me the impression the lower build quality wouldn't stand up to much wear and tear if you plan on using it a lot (or god forbid you drop it). The screen was also very dim even on the brightest setting, and the SD card slightly sticks out of the unit.
I have read nearly every Amazon.com review (around 240) of the Asus T100, and it also seems to suffer from quality-control issues (many appear to have been resolved with Asus BIOS updates). I have been following these 2 particular tablets very closely for a LONG time...
All in all, it seems great if you're VERY hard pressed for cash and absolutely NEED a 10"+ tablet, but I think its worth it to spring the extra $100 and get the Dell Venue 11 Pro for the following reasons:
    Asus T100 / Dell Venue 11 Pro:
    Dim screen / Brighter screen
    720p resolution / 1080p resolution
    10.1" screen / 10.8" screen
USB on keyboard dock / USB on tablet
Low build quality / High build quality
    1x1 Wifi / 2x2 Wifi
Bay Trail Z3740 cpu / Bay Trail Z3770 cpu
Exposed SD card / Covered SD card
Windows logo (non-functioning) / Windows logo button
    Sealed battery / Swappable battery
Limited accessory options / Slim or battery extending keyboard, Dock with ports
Doesn't support stylus or pen / Supports stylus or pen

Thanks for the analysis. The t100 is what I'm looking for for a few reasons: $300, keyboard included (Venue 11 would be $500+$100 minimum), office is included, able to run well on bay trail, working in a "high-loss" area.

I have one of these and did not experience any of the quality issues you guys did. My keyboard and Sd slot are both used often and work 100%,
For $399 I love it and DO NOT GET 32Ggb MODEL, 32gb is too sparse for windows even 64gig requires allot of space managment to keep from going over. I use a 64gig SD card to get 128gig total. Dock connector and hinges are SOLID...
    I give it 4 out of 5

thx for the review! ive ordered one and am pretty excited
tablet use: reading, netflix, browsing etc
x86 use: light indie games, coding projects on the go
this fits between my alienware and note phablet :D
Hopefully my unit doesnt have QC issues, and some of the other quirks are not too annoying.
I wouldnt complained paying more if the screen had more brightness, support an active stylus(if not include one), a matte finish, and dual antenna :|

The ironic thing about censoring 'bad' words is that by doing so you cause the listener to actively focus their attention on the words... it's as though you've created a crossword puzzle or acrostic, which our brains instinctively try to solve. Sans censoring, the word passes by almost unnoticed.

Apparently, Asus put in a separate 8GB drive storage for the recovery partition in the 32GB model. So even after installing Office you'd have about 14GB free in the 32GB model...
64GB is larger of course but recovery partition, Skydrive local storage, etc means only about 27-29GB free... Though, you can move the recovery to USB to free up some space and get over 30GB free...

I'm about to test my Surface 2 charging from 10% battery to see how long it takes to fully charge. I'm not sold on Bay Trail just yet until I see a more comparable tablet to Surface 2. But for the price, this is a really decent product for the budget conscious.

Issue with UEFI version aren't directly related to the OS but just to the boot process and what calls are made and whether they match up with the setup.
Asus just made the call to stick with the 32bit UEFI until they actually need to push full 64bit because everything is still 32bit but FW is upgradeable and thus they can always update it to 64bit UEFI.
For now it mainly makes it more cumbersome to run a 3rd party OS & USB boots but not impossible.

I'm pretty small and my hands are small too. This keyboard is a bit on the small side for me but I can still type pretty fast with it (I have a TF300, basically the same as the T100 but running Android OS) and even touch type. So, if your hands are small don't worry about the size of the keyboard ;)
