      Hey man! I really appreciate that, Part 2 is coming out real soon! I would recommend reading the story told by De Vaca himself, "Naufragios". Penguins seems to have an English translation "Chronicle of the Narvaez Expedition".

    You said Pensacola is the first permanent settlement but wasn’t it st Augustine?

    • @borichamo
      @borichamo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment! This has been a loooong debate for a long time. Put simply, there’s a difference of “category”, Pensacola was the oldest settlement to be established in the US, but St Augustine is the oldest ‘continuously-inhabited’ city. Pensacola was abandoned for a period or years, so despite being the oldest, it’s claim is more tenuous. There’s a big of a beef between St Augustine and Pensacola actually.
      When I said that it was the first permanent settlement, it wasn’t meant to imply that Pensacola was the first “continuously inhabited” city. I simply wanted to make a distinction between the establishment of Pensacola, where the settlers actually intended to make a long lasting site and were able to reside in for a number of years, rather than just explore and set up camp like before. I hope that helps and clarifies, sorry for any confusion!

    why does nobody ever mention Juan Ponce De Leon landed Miami, Fl before it being called Miami it did have a name which he did give and did indeed land in what today is called Shark Valley and travelled althoughout what is today as Miami I don't see Julia Tuttle as the founding woman "founding mother" of Florida. Miami original name which our founding father gave it was Bahia De Tequesta (Tequesta Bay in English) like seriously wtf. I just had to bring that up, like that sh*t is hidden and do not understand why

    • @borichamo
      @borichamo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching man. Yeah the history of Miami is fascinating. The Spanish crown was actually considering making a fort in Miami but the resources were spread too thin. The tequesta were also a force to be reckoned with and it made settlement a nightmare. I can’t fit every detail I’d like to in a more general history but it’s a great idea to make a video specifically about Miami in the future! Thanks for commenting

      @@borichamo your welcome o guess but I was wanting to prove a point about nobody talks about the original name of Miami and hidden history between that's here not even said about. Sadly the original name Tequesta Bay would've been the real name for Miami in spanish anyways. But nobody talks about what happen to the Requests after all of that and why they started going hostile and yeah they was tough as nails and i respect the tribe greatly but sadly none of them are alive so o heard but I wouldn't know. That's why I hate the fact historians always choose what could be said and wouldn't be said

    • @gregrobinette8620
      @gregrobinette8620 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tekesta means "people of the land" and the place was always called "Miami" or moreso Mayaimi (Miami), I'm glad Juan Ponce de Leon preserved the little bit of vast culture of native Florida before they ruined it lol
      Edit: I got the Tekestan word wrong and used the word Mayaamia instead 🤕

    • @dannyrosabal719
      @dannyrosabal719 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Greg Robinette I'm from Miami, it wasn't even called like that. MIAMI tribe was up north not even close TO FL. Chequesta was the trive here which was named after them. They died from war with other natives. However Soanish always been here before he came around. Spain had secret relations with the natives which would ultimately go sour before 1400s the king of that time knew about it. This secret history isn't very known much.

    • @gregrobinette8620
      @gregrobinette8620 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dannyrosabal719 lmao THATS a lie lol. Spain did not have secret knowledge of Tekestas or this land, you watch History channel? I'm near Miami too, I know the nation that owned pretty much all of Indiana were called Miami (Myaamia), but the city of Miami was named by the Tekesta as "Mayaimi", sorry
