I think it would be a great 'tip of the hat' to all us Bondheads out there. 5 bags of popcorn to you and I'll throw in the keys to one of Bond's cars he uses for his famous adventures 🚗
This Oscar was the first one to be live broadcasted worldwide. I remember to watch it all the music nominated that nigh and this performance was unforgettable to me at my young age (15th years old). My favorite was Endless Love, though.
I remember seeing this as a kid , Now I see it again For the first time in 38 years . I do remember the part at the end where Sheena got in the capsule and went straight up . Somehow it seemed better then.
I totally relate. I was in awe at the time. Now it's like, wow, I gotta check my cholesterol levels from some much extra cheeze! Still it has a special place in my 80s heart. I thought, still think, Sheena is breathtaking. And that production must have cost a pretty penny.
Damn I miss the 80s. I remember being 12 years old and watching and thinking how glamorous sheena looked and how I loved that song. We would record it on cassette players from Casey kasems top 40 count down!!! 🩷
Too bad oscars don't have these kind of segments no more. Back in the day when it was enjoyable to watch. What is more awesome is Sheena's singing live. She's not lip synching.
This was the same Oscars that saw Cubby Broccoli receive the Thalberg award (not to mention Bill Conti heading up the orchestra). Hence the over the top Bond performance...
Harold Sakata who played the villain Odd Job died about 4 months after this aired (it was his last performance). People watched 007 for the bad guys and especially their henchmen like Odd Job and Jaws,
The heavier beat does wonders for this song. It always disappointed me a little how the song on record isn't able to maintain that mysterious tone with the heartbeat at the beginning. Cool to see they worked on that a bit for live performance
This was a pretty amazing performance piece. Overall, I love it. It's very cheesey and over the top, but at the same time it's supposed to be, cuz James Bond is ALWAYS over the top. Music-wise of course, I much prefer the studio original version of this song. It is literally a perfect song and it's so mysterious and so evocative in a visceral way and then of course there's her voice. Speaking of which, it's in great form here and she obviously sang live. The cutting into the song with the original Bond theme is rather awkward-sounding, but of course it's understandably done for the incredibly elaborate performance piece they have going there. It was a celebration of the entire Bond franchise thru Sheena Easton's eyes only, and in the context of our eyes only. *Chef's Kiss* Well-done.
Scottish director Bill Forsyth was at an Oscar after party in 1982, and spoke with the Oscar show producer. He was horrified to discover the budget for this musical number was more that his entire budget for his first feature “That Sinking Feeling”.
I feel bad for Sheena, this is my favorite 007 song but this (thankfully blurry) video is second in cheese to Snow White and Rob Lowe. I lived thru the 70’s but I now have to cleanse my eyes with the original films version that she is so classy in.
Oscars slaughtered Bond class and Easton class. Easton mustve been laughing her head off after seeing this number. Horrible...of course the oscar's political bullsh!t today makes them even worse.
Calvin Dyson led me to this.
How do you thank a guy for leading me to this gem of pure cheesiness?
Oh Calvin 😭😂
Sad thing is that this was the last public appearance of Harold Sakata. He was battling cancer at this point and died not long later
I wish the Oscars still did stuff like this today.
But that would leave no time for them to lecture everyone all night.
Omg yes.
@SuperEndiku Always ridiculous speeches 🤣
This is a thing of beauty and I think it ought to be mandatory for the Oscar organisers to include a re-enactment of this every year.
I think it would be a great 'tip of the hat' to all us Bondheads out there. 5 bags of popcorn to you and I'll throw in the keys to one of Bond's cars he uses for his famous adventures
🚗
She's singing live!!! Great Sheena!
Back when singers had actual talent they could perform live.
@@SuperEndiku This was the era of Solid Gold, it was the heyday for lip syncing
this is Bond's "Holiday Special"
spoken like a true star wars fan
Fantastic performance and better than anything Hollywood can crank out at the Awards these days...
Sheena Easton takes NO prisoners. Definitely feelin' all the pyrotechnics!
My Favorite 007 song ❤❤❤❤
Sheena singing live. She had great range during her prime.
This is so awesome! Blowing up the entire stage in that shoot out was incredible!

This performance marked the final appearance of Harold Sakata in his signature role as Oddjob. At this time he was already seriously ill from cancer.
I remember seeing this as a kid , Now I see it again For the first time in 38 years . I do remember the part at the end where Sheena got in the capsule and went straight up . Somehow it seemed better then.
We’ve been desensitized

Wow that was a big production
This is so eighties 💕
The sad part. This is Harold Sakata’s last major appearance as Oddjob. Because six months after this he passed away
A little known fact is that this was filmed in San Francisco on the same sound stage that many scenes from Star Trek 2 were filmed.
Doing it live. Much respect.
All of you naysayers are dead wrong, this is MAGNIFICENT
Too bad oscars don't have these kind of segments no more. Back in the day when it was enjoyable to watch. What is more awesome is Sheena's singing live. She's not lip synching.
She is PERFECTION!!
This was the same Oscars that saw Cubby Broccoli receive the Thalberg award (not to mention Bill Conti heading up the orchestra). Hence the over the top Bond performance...
This truly needs to be redone again this year !
The 1982 Oscars looks bomb af
I don't care if it looks cringe, I loved it ❤
amazing!!!
OH MY GOD AAAHAHAH!! THIS IS SO AMAZING.
Harold Sakata who played the villain Odd Job died about 4 months after this aired (it was his last performance). People watched 007 for the bad guys and especially their henchmen like Odd Job and Jaws,
Good god. ONLY in 1982.
Man. '80s Ladies were beautiful. Sheena. Belinda. Gloria. Linda. Madonna.
This was actually cool with all the original actors and sheena! Yes cheesy but cmon.....classic lol
That was awesome Live.
whata voice
Monumental Sheena, toda una Diosa.
Amazing production values!
More than a hint of Gozer the gozerian by Sheena Here !!

There will never be another more talented Singer than Sheena and i do mean ever Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga 😜😊
Scottish director Bill Forsyth was at an Oscar after party in 1982, and spoke with the Oscar show producer. He was horrified to discover the budget for this musical number was more that his entire budget for his first feature “That Sinking Feeling”.
Cool!!!
With the real Oddjob and Jaws.
Yeah sadly Mr Sakata who portrayed Oddjob lost a ton of weight due to cancer that’s why he looks so thin and frail
@@RealTreyOlds Cancer is and will always remain a bitch.
hmm i miss the 80s
Anyone know who the guy in white at 0:08 is? I can recognize Richard Kiel, Terry Savalas and Harold Sakata, but not him.
+Max1996
Possibly DR. NO (Joseph Wiseman).
Oddjob's last appearance before his death..
Now you watch the Oscar's and somebody gets the shit slapped out of em. What a terrible country we live in in 2021 and 2023. Embarrassing.
I feel bad for Sheena, this is my favorite 007 song but this (thankfully blurry) video is second in cheese to Snow White and Rob Lowe.
I lived thru the 70’s but I now have to cleanse my eyes with the original films version that she is so classy in.
Wow. We'll file this in the Star Wars Christmas Special category......
At last, Sheena became a bond girl .
that's da naughty Sheena
The original lead Bond dancer for this broke his leg during rehearsal and never danced again.
The part where Roger Moore gets out the car and starts louping about the place is fucking brilliant. I had no idea he was as spry...
its not Roger Moore
Wasn’t him
Like if you’re here after her interview
I'm curious where they hid her mic?
Wasn't this song made for a more serious bond movie lol
For Your Eyes Only did not change the popular perception of Bond. The general public still regarded Bond as light hearted and campy.
Bricklin SV-1 - 😄
Sadly, Harold Sakata (“Oddjob”) was close to death when he did this.
🫶🏻
The 80s weren’t all the same. This looks like it could have been anywhere from 1977 to 1984.
Omg that was so good.yet so crap.
Oddjob jaws
This is like a Simpsons parody.
Sheena sang well. The show is confusing and messy. Too many things happen at once. Less is more!
Cheesy yes.
But Sheena 🤑
I'm guessing there were drugs involved.
Very funny bill.
💯
Wow, that was craptastic.
lol
Oscars slaughtered Bond class and Easton class. Easton mustve been laughing her head off after seeing this number. Horrible...of course the oscar's political bullsh!t today makes them even worse.
Gaudy and completely overdone. They should have just let Sheena sing the damn song.
This is awful
