"For Your Eyes Only" , although one of the best James Bond main title songs in the history of the James Bond film franchise, is not the best Bond main title song because (1) the lyrics are not sophisticated enough and (2) it has the absurd lyric, "Maybe I'm an open book because I know your mind.....but you won't need to read between the lines" -- well of course Bond won't need to "read between the lines" of her intentions because she has already indicated that her heart is an "open book"!😂😂. Born in 1970, and I can tell you listening to this zaps me back to Summer of 1981. What a year that was to be a kid at the age of 10 going on 11!! Star Wars, Star Trek, James Bond Roger Moore, Raiders of the Lost Ark!! So Fine. Porkys, Friday the 13th, Halloween movies, if you got bullied, you learned to stick up for yourself, Ronald Reagan, Magnum PI, Saturday morning Cartoons, Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Atari 2600, Smurfs, SNL Eddie Murphy, Playboy, Penthouse, Tom Selleck, Family Ties, Cagney and Lacey, Arthur, no involvement in the middle east occupations, Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Carter was out!! Hondas and Toyotas were in, Mustangs and Corvettes cool. Cabbage Patch Kids, Colleco Vision. Arcades, Roller Skating, We beat the crap out of the Russians in the 1980 Winter Games. Winter games were held in Lake Placid, which by the way some of the scenes in this film were filmed, Billy Joel, Who could not stop thinking of Christie Brinkley? Chevy Chase, Caddyshack, Bill Murray, John Beloshi in Neighbors, Blues Brothers, just to name a few. Also everybody mentioning Sheena Easton, you can also see her in season 4 of Miami Vice, as Crockette's Second wife, she sang a nice meloromantic song, "Over My Rainbow" which I like, that came out sometime in 1988. Yeah I happen to agree, that the people who decided on the bond girls, it was the best decision made to keep Easton as the singer for opening and closing credits, and the Greek girl as the bond girl fully agree. Well back to 2019, hehehehe, that was a good short term trip for a few minutes. Enjoy!!
Other shows and movies to note in 1981 that came out, lets start with tv, Incredible Hulk, WKRP In Cincinati, Greatest American Hero, Hill Street Blues, St.Elsewhere, Dallas, Soap, and movies wise Superman II, The Fog, Escape From NY, Soap wise you had General Hospital, oh yeah, forgot Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Happy Days, Joannie Loves Chachi, Lavern and Shirley. CNN had not come out yet and we were down to 3 major networks. Cable was just beginning. Also ABC Sunday Night Movie. I think if I am correct, it was Sunday Night Football was the thing and ABC held the rights, and then later down the road, it became Monday Night Football. Superbowl was more respectable too, not like what we have today as a super studded star fest of pop stars, it had average folks performing, sometimes mainly bands performing. Sports was all about fun and competing not all political like today!! 1981 was a great year to be a kid, unlike today with all the luxury of technology!!! Glad to have lived it!!! Call me old, but got to live it!!!
@@715michala Skyfall is... well. I hate Adele music because of how low energy it is, but i think that was ok. I didnt hate that theme so much. But not that i would listen to it over and over, its ok though.
They all were until "Licence To Kill". I guess they thought a guy's leg being eaten off, someone's HEAD exploding, and another being grinded to death was a little much in the violence department. Fun fact: "The Living Daylights", the last PG Bond movie, had actual female nudity (briefly however).
AdamG1983 Licence to Kill is one of only 2 Bond films to be rated 15 as well; the other is the uncut post-2012 version of Casino Royale with the extended torture scene
Never seen a James Bond movie in my life. Just heard a bunch of their songs on the way home from work the other day through my dad's playlist. This one and The Man With The Golden Gun stood out to me. I really like both of them.
I was 37 yrs old when this came out and I was hooked by Sheena and the movie. Brings back a great time in my life. So thank you so much to a captivating woman and a very cool opening for the movie Sheena
Best opening theme in the Bond franchise "In my opinion". Such an emotional song with a nice video in one of the most realistic Bond films ever made. Classic to a tee :)
Sheena was a beauty, love this song. So pretty and full of grace, one of my favourite Bond themes and from the 80s of course, great movie roger keep well
A SONG DREAM come TRUE FOREVER ,an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE . The generic songs of the JAMES BOND are PURE WONDERS of Musical Composition and the FEMALE VOICES, chosen with intelligence and skill are often AWESOME. What TALENT through the years that pass and that can not leave anyone indifferent when you appreciate BEAUTIFUL QUALITY SONGS ...
My dad has seen every 007 movie ever in theatres and when I was 7 years old, he took me to see this one at the now-defunct AMC Sheridan 7 movie theatre in Hollywood, FL. I've seen almost all of the James Bond series since then. Thanks, Dad. I love you.
there's only one problem wit this song.......its not long enough..i wish there was another ten verses....the best bond song by far...the piano is brilliant!
It was the Summer of 1981 when my best friend and I went to see this....we were both 13. We were too young to get all the symbolism in these opening titles of naked women swimming, jumping, spreading their legs and a pistol being held up straight into the air (phallic erection). We just wanted to see shootouts and death defying escapes from James Bond. Now these opening titles are considered taboo, sexist and exploiting of women. I say take me back to 1981.
I saw this when I was 11 in Oxford. These titles awakened me as a man for the first time. They stayed in my head, and the song, well after the movie. Roger was the coolest bond I think, not a tough guy, too classy to be that.
Vado pazzo per questo brano. Sono anni e anni che continua a toccarmi dentro. Faccio un complimento a chi l'ha scritta e a chi la canta .un brano fantastico. Un brano per me INTRAMONTABILE. GRANDIOSA!!!!!
Gosh Sheena was a beauty, and full of passion, Great film mr Moore, I was in Newquay with a girl I was in love, one night after the movie, she said for your eyes only, never forgotten, thanks Sheena xx
One of the best Bond films, one of the best Bond songs. This has always been one of my favourites. It's a film suitable for children as well for adults. The Bond franchise did not always balance it this well.
It’s funny this was the first Bond film I recall hearing about, my Dad wanted to go see it but I saw the ad in the paper with the woman’s legs and she wasn’t wearing much, it looked kind of risqué and not a kids movie (I was 10 at the time)
The 80s were such an incredible time, especially the variety of music available. I could go on and on with the different artists, we didn’t know how good we had it, 😊☺️
One of the most iconic Bond themes hands down. And clever use of Sheena Easton , too. Why they never did it again with other artists is bizarre, as here it obviously works.
@@rw8733 That is very true. Sheena was beautiful, reeked of class at the time (this was before her Sugar Walls phase), and had a voice that rivaled Whitney Houston's.
This movie introduced me to Bond. I have 3 siblings and I am the youngest. Dad always loved Bond and one Saturday he said he was going to see the new Bond film and asked who wanted to join him. Everyone had plans, even Mom wanted to go to the flea market instead, and I was going with her. I had no idea who James Bond even was, but I loved going to the movies. I said I’d love to go and he said thanks, thought he’d have to go alone. Movie was amazing! Also, to have your beloved father all to yourself without your squabbling siblings around is truly wonderful. Great experience with my Dad that I’ll never forget. Miss ya Pop. And ‘Bond’ was the perfect word to describe that great Saturday afternoon with You. This movie will always hold a special place on my heart
When I was younger this song wasn't really one of my favorite songs growing up, but eventually i came around to it. Furthermore, I didn't really watch the movie recently until I saw that Julian Glover was in it, and Bill Conti did the music. This song definitely has become one of my favorites. But no one can ever take your memories of these times, that you experienced with your dad in your childhood - and not only in these.
Yes . These Bond films remind us all that there was once a time when we had no cares or worries and the Future lay ahead of us -
Shining brightly . Little did we know....! ?!
And as an added bonus, the ending of _On Her Majesty's Secret Service_ leads right into the beginning of _For Your Eyes Only_ .
This is true nostalgia. Amazing song. Amazing movie. Amazing Stunning Singer.
Can't belive Moore is gone.
I am still waiting for him to apear once more as 007,. The only true Bond. MISS THE 80s!.
I wish I could live every day as if its.....For your eyes only !
Who could have guessed how the
World would look like 40 years later . ? We lived in the Best of Times ......but we didn't appreciate
it at the time.
Not just her voice... Sheena is beautiful enough to appear on the opening sequence!!
They should've included her into the actual film. I think Madonna had a bit part in one of the James Bond films.
@@lamarravery4094 She did and I almost wonder if it was a stab at Sheena Easton. But I guess Sheena has the last laugh though as this song is iconic whereas Madonna's is not even talked about and Sheena is still looking pretty good whereas Madonna is looking haggard
This record is so good. Heartwarming without being the usually soppy love song.
This song makes me cry what an awesome time that was
A beautiful song and so typically 80's. Who wouldn't have this play, alongside their first dance at a wedding?
Roger Moore will always be James Bond to me
Me too!
Definitely the best bond, funny, cool, charming, r.i.p.
Me too!
Daniel Craig's the best
Moore was the best Bond followed by Brosnan and Connery respectively.
Best bond song ever.
Sheena Easton nailed this beautiful song.
Will always be the BEST theme song
R.I.P Sir Roger Moore. Really it was such a beautiful song!
Ironically Roger thought skyfall theme was beautiful just before he popped his clogs awww
A GREAT MAN and a TALENTOUS ACTOR who will have brought us a lot of joy and good cinematographic moments for many years ... Hat down, the Artist!
@@715michala Skyfall is... well. I hate Adele music because of how low energy it is, but i think that was ok. I didnt hate that theme so much. But not that i would listen to it over and over, its ok though.
@@kejiri3593 actually gone off Skyfall theme
One of the best bond songs sends shivers down my spine
always loved how sensual these bond openings were, especially this one. this was rated PG back in the day folks!
I don’t recall Daylights having any nudity? That was the AIDS era film. Only one love interest (but that was more than enough ☺️)
Never seen a James Bond movie in my life. Just heard a bunch of their songs on the way home from work the other day through my dad's playlist. This one and The Man With The Golden Gun stood out to me. I really like both of them.
Remember watching the opening scene as a kid. This song brings back very fond memories. When times were good. ❤Miss the 80's❤
Probably the best Bond tune of all times. We grew up with Bond. I will never forget it
I was 37 yrs old when this came out and I was hooked by Sheena and the movie. Brings back a great time in my life. So thank you so much to a captivating woman and a very cool opening for the movie Sheena
Christ, if you were 37 when this movie came out, how old are you now? I cba doing the math
@@spots763037 in 1981
2022 is 41 years later
37 plus 41 = 78 years old
@@itsnouse-yourswillbeastill2562 well I was 26 in 1981, now 68 in 2023, so it reminds me of my twenties.
Gorgeous woman Sheena, just PERFECT! Her voice is magnificent.
Amazing Bond theme. 10 out of 10. Flawless.
Songs like this make life worth living
Best opening theme in the Bond franchise "In my opinion". Such an emotional song with a nice video in one of the most realistic Bond films ever made. Classic to a tee :)
The sound mix fits the nautical theme of the premise so well
'Nobody does it better', is right up there. Think its probably better..
Only "All time high" beats it
The edel song was awful though
You' re right ,friend as many ,many people ,all around the world and the others BEAUTIFUL SONGS of this FANTASTIC REPERTOIRE are not the Last...
Sir roger moore was great and this song bring tears to me what a great memories
For your eyes only 007❤
Wonderful song and film intro, epitomises the wonderful 80’s, great times
One of the best Bond songs ever in my opinion.
Sheena was a beauty, love this song. So pretty and full of grace, one of my favourite Bond themes and from the 80s of course, great movie roger keep well
She's not actually dead though.
👍 👍 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 ! !
For your eyes only and View to a kill are the best Bond songs. Watched them both at the drive-in.
Plus gladys knight licence to kill...
Sheena easton she was the most beautiful young lady pop singer of the 80s with the beautiful voice....80s was real magic era for all kind of music
Bravo.Sheena Easton has a beautiful voice. This song is one of the best in the James bond series "Agent 007".
Brings back memories of watching James Bond movies on HBO and Cinemax when I was kid out for summer break. This was one of my favorites.
Thank you roger moore for all the bond movies you were the best
For Your Eyes Only has got to be the greatest James Bond love song ❤️
and MACCA´S
too
@@carlosbuscatore not bloody macxas awful lol
"All Time High" Octopussy soundtrack. Sir Roger Moore💋💋💋😍😍👠👠
the best bond song ever! i saw her in person nd she can still belt all th words out!
I think I like Nobody Does it Better a little more but I really just love both songs.
As much as I like Bassey's, this may be the best of all!!! Plus she's so freaking stunning!.
This song is beautiful and soothing.
My dad has seen every 007 movie ever in theatres and when I was 7 years old, he took me to see this one at the now-defunct AMC Sheridan 7 movie theatre in Hollywood, FL. I've seen almost all of the James Bond series since then. Thanks, Dad. I love you.
there's only one problem wit this song.......its not long enough..i wish there was another ten verses....the best bond song by far...the piano is brilliant!
i thought the official music video not the bond opening was longer
Indeed! So it makes me play on and on and louder hahaha... maybe it's one of attractions of the song, too.
Always such a wonderful piece of music that will last forever.
Sheena Easton is such an amazing talent!!!
This one and 'A View To A Kill' are the all time best Bond songs.
i was a little boy when i saw this 007 movie and i loved the song
I watched this movie when it came out in the 80's at the drive in. And loved it
It was the Summer of 1981 when my best friend and I went to see this....we were both 13.
Carlos Miguel BlueDragon You have very good taste.
I saw this when I was 11 in Oxford. These titles awakened me as a man for the first time. They stayed in my head, and the song, well after the movie. Roger was the coolest bond I think, not a tough guy, too classy to be that.
I was eight when my fàther took me and my brother to see this in Edmonton at the Capital Four theater. I loved this song and the movie
Vado pazzo per questo brano.
Sono anni e anni che continua a toccarmi dentro.
Faccio un complimento a chi l'ha scritta e a chi la canta .un brano fantastico.
Un brano per me INTRAMONTABILE.
GRANDIOSA!!!!!
🤝👍
This song gives me goosebumps. It's so pretty!
Gosh Sheena was a beauty, and full of passion, Great film mr Moore, I was in Newquay with a girl I was in love, one night after the movie, she said for your eyes only, never forgotten, thanks Sheena xx
Stunningly attractive and a heavenly voice!
One of the best Bond films, one of the best Bond songs. This has always been one of my favourites. It's a film suitable for children as well for adults. The Bond franchise did not always balance it this well.
It’s funny this was the first Bond film I recall hearing about, my Dad wanted to go see it but I saw the ad in the paper with the woman’s legs and she wasn’t wearing much, it looked kind of risqué and not a kids movie (I was 10 at the time)
Not a usual practise to have the singer of a bond theme on the opening sequence, but Sheena was so goddamn beautiful they had no option . . .
Kevin Barton the credits designer thought she was hot
The only singer featured in a Bond film.
What about #MelissaManchester..?
Octopussy
@Paul Kryder hi...yes...u R rigth...Melissa sang Out of África theme...thanks
The 80s were such an incredible time, especially the variety of music available. I could go on and on with the different artists, we didn’t know how good we had it, 😊☺️
This has always been my fav bond song. She has such an amazing unique voice with no auto-tune.
One of the most iconic Bond themes hands down. And clever use of Sheena Easton , too. Why they never did it again with other artists is bizarre, as here it obviously works.
The other singers weren't as beautiful as Sheena.
Yeah, I just commented on that. She's the only singer to have been shown physically during the opening titles.
@@rw8733 That is very true. Sheena was beautiful, reeked of class at the time (this was before her Sugar Walls phase), and had a voice that rivaled Whitney Houston's.
Carly Simon's mug would have ruined the film
I think Nancy Sinatra would have looked divine in the opening credits to You Only Live Twice.
Wonderful tune, one of the best Bond themes for me!
Definitely one of my absolute FAVORITES! This and "The Spy who Loved me" are my 2 favorites! Rest in Peace Roger Moore to my favorite Bond as well!
Very good song. Love 80's Bond main themes. Gladys Knight - Licence To Kill (1989) and Lani Hall - Never Say Never Again (1984) are great songs too.
Who's listening in 2024?
I am
Me too!
Me
yo
... and me of course
Simply one of the most mesmerizing movie openings ever.
I love this since the first time. Not only for the movie, but also for Sheena, the song and the scenery.....James Bond forever.
What a fantastic song and movie! I love this♡
To this day, the only bond film where the artist is featured in the opening. Sheen Easton killed it here.
When I was a kid, this must have been on HBO at least 37 times a day.
I've always liked that as she sings the line, "I never felt 'til I looked at you," she turns and looks directly at you. Such beautiful eyes.
This woman has a voice! Damn it, Sheena, queen of song!
A timeless tune, sensational
loved this song, still love it
When I was younger this song wasn't really one of my favorite songs growing up, but eventually i came around to it. Furthermore, I didn't really watch the movie recently until I saw that Julian Glover was in it, and Bill Conti did the music. This song definitely has become one of my favorites. Sheena Easton did great, and I love the Piano in this song.
久し振りに観ました。アナログ的映像がとても良かったです。シーナイーストンの曲感動ものですね。
