I always shop the Clearance section at Lowe's and Home Depot. I found an overgrown, on both sides, folded over the top of the wood at Lowe's. $10! I gave a piece to my friend to root. I repotted and reattached to the wood until I find a longer piece of cork wood. I also got a 6" hanging pot that was potbound with Staggorn!! $10 for that also...about 12 plants all connected. Right now divided up into 5 plants...preparing to mount them. I am so excited! I stumbled onto these beauties and am caught up in a new passion!!

This is why whenever I go to FL I know that I am going to get some options that I cannot find in the other states that I visit, specifically up north where I live. I will be in your state soon and one of the things that I plan on doing is going to local nurseries, big box stores, and the super markets to see what I am bringing back home. I will have Ernest inspect the soil for any lizard eggs since my experience with Gabriella Plants that come from FL. By the way, they have an actual storefront now. Definitely going to visit to see what I can find. Thanks for sharing.

I just bought my first shingles plant! Walmart here in Texas Panhandle. Usual price is $16 but got half off for broke pot. You can always get discounts on plants that are sitting in a cracked pot. 😉. I can't wait to learn about my new plant. And it had two plans in it as well that had so much new growth.

I love this video. I have one that I bought back in January (I think...its been awhile) and it had outgrown the board so much, I look at it everyday and im like I need to figure this out. Wow!!! Just looked on line... my local Walmart has these for $42.99.... the exact same thing!!!! Just north of Pittsburgh, PA... unbelievable the way plant prices have skyrocketed.... :O
I would suggest looking at big box stores that have them in stock. Costa Farms is selling these exact same plants on their website for $50.They are the same plants being sold in big box stores for $20 or less.
Since my last post, my shingling plant has grown 8 more inches. I cut it off and started a new one. Tomorrow I'll search for some kind of post to mount it to. I may use a small locust branch. Since they have rough bark, it should attach to it pretty quickly.

Thank you for this! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with mine now it’s outgrown the pot. This looks great and I really appreciate that you described when to water. I stick my finger in the pot even though I have a moisture meter. I just can’t bring myself to trust it. 😀
My #1 rule of thumb is if you have something that works for you, don't change it. If your finger is working for you, go with what you trust. You've already got this!
I got mine from the reduced shelf at WalMart. I have never seen this plant before.
The biology major in me ( internship was done at an arboretum) says those "little roots" are more accurately called " holdfasts."
I love finding good clearance plants. The little roots may very well be called that. I will leave that to you and the other biologists. 😊 All I know is I love a good shingling plant. Thanks for watching.

I did the same with my hayi. It has grown by leaps and bounds; I've attached another pole and it is actually shingling naturally now.

Hi!! Just wanted to note that costa farms has been shipping their hayis root wrapped! Which will eventually kill the plant. I just cut mine off the other day & repotted her. She even has little shrooms growing next to her so the whole pot is super happy!! Lol just wanted note this! 💖 thanks for your info!!

I think they all come with two. However, I saw one in HD yesterday that had two little sprouts and that was it. I'm glad I already had mine. I love mine too! Enjoy your Hayii and thanks for watching!
Mite want to check what there in..i got one and when it became time to repot it i discovered that both plants where in a mesh cup like deal and the root had grown through it and had to cut all the mesh off of it and lost a few roots but doin jus wonderfully now growing way better actually so mite wanna take a look in the soil..but havent thought bout the moss stake will be geting me some foreal😊

I've never seen the a variegated one. That's great! My Dubai is growing up a styrofoam background in my terrarium. It sprouted a second stem and that's gone wild too. The like to climb for sure!

I ended up finding one here in NB Canada a few days ago for the same price but it had 4 plants in it , girl I gought that plant before anybody could blink , keeping 2 plants and trading to for others.

I just went to Lowe's and they just got in 8 Hayis. I bought the biggest and tallest. Both plants are past the top of the board.
How do you water yours? Top/bottom? What number on the moisture meter? How much water?

Oh wow! Sounds like you found a really nice sized Hayi. I bottom water most of my plant and only use the moisture meter to see if the plant is wet or dry. When It's dry I sit it in water for 20-30 minutes. That's it. Enjoy your first shingling plant. I see many more in your future.😆

Hi Peggy! How are you? Thanks for this video. I bought a Hayi and both plants were to the top of the 12" board. One was more than 6" off to the side.
I went to Lowe's and bought a 48" tall, poplar board. I cut it in half and replaced it. This video should me I could do it too.
Do you know how to propagate it? When it grows above the new board, I will cut and prop it, to make the pot and board fuller.

Sounds like you picked up some really nice plants! To propagate, I simply place the cutting on a bed of damp spag moss to root. I've also seen them water rooted at the cut end. Enjoy your Hayi!
@@PeggysPlants Thanks Peggy! I haven't seen any videos on how to propagate my Hayi. Do I need to cut off the lowest leaf or will it root out of the button of the cut stem? When the two plants reach the top of the new 24" poplar board, I will chop and prop to fill in the pot and board.

I just picked one of these up today! Thanks for all of the information. I have a soil mix I blended for other aroids, it’s fairly airy (plenty of perlite), do you think that would be good for this plant?
I've used an aroid mix with other shingling plants without problems. I left this one in the peat it came in since everything seemed to be fine. Best of luck!
Happy Wednesday I know we’re not talking about the ZZ plant but I was wondering do they attract bugs because I went to Walmart looking for one and they had a few little bugs crawling on them so I was curious🤔🪴🪴
I have two ZZ Ravens and have not had any pest issues. I think those plants had issues and it's probably a good thing you left them there. Hopefully you will find an nice pest free ZZ soon.Thanks for watching!

Peggy, curious now that it's been a year. How is your Hayi doing on the moss pole?
THe Hayii is growing like a weed. I needed the moss pole for another plant and detached it from the pole and put it on cork bark. I shouldn't have done that. It's still growing like crazy but taking its sweet time to attach. I plan to do an update video and will try to remember to show the Hayii. Thanks for watching!

I’ve had mine for almost 2 months and I’ve had zero growth :( it gets adequate sun and sits by a humidifier but I hope it grows soon
Hopefully that will soon change and you'll see a growth spurt. Mine seems to be moving right along. I don't have it by a humidifier but it is getting some nice indirect light, by a window. Thank for watching!
I completely changed the soil because a week later there were mushrooms 🍄 and the plants were in little bags si i carefully removed those and downsized the pot because they didnt have alot of roots!
So far, I've not had any issues, but I will be on the watch for any issues. Thanks for watching!

Wait. How does it plank if it has a moss pole ? If it’s not a flat surface shingle plants don’t go flat. The plants of mine that shingle but climb with no plank, have regular leaves. Not flat. That’s why they come with a board specifically so it’s flat ? Idk
If you want the leaves to be totally flat, you will need to mount them to a flat surface. On a totem like I used, the plant will continue to grow in a shingle pattern but the leaves will not be totally flat.
I just bought one at Walmart for $18.27 but it didn't come with a pot. No problem though I have plenty :))

These ship from Costa with felt wrap around the roots for control during growth. Everyone who buys these needs to separate them from the provided soil and unwrap them to allow for unrestricted growth.
