So I've just finished the last season and I really don't think the choice of making the last season a musical was the right call. Even though the storyline was great, and the characters and the actors are amazing at what they do, it was such a let down. (Also, of course Netflix was fine with the pitch of making last season a musical, because they barely promote the show as it is and it's over now.)

I couldn't agree more. I'm a musical theatre major and this wasn't the right call. I get they wanted to go out with a bang, but not everything needs to or should be a musical.

@@raegleek88 exactly! And same here I love musical theater with everything in me and musicals in general, but only when they're intentional. And not just thrown together you know?

Unpopular opinion: I loved it. A musical wouldn't have been my first choice but the show tests boundaries; using atypical methods to explore taboo topics often neglected by media and society. Most people just can't get behind the musical format but the value of the message is the same. Honestly, with everything that we've been through the last two years I just kept thinking about Joelle in the third season, sometimes just being black and carefree is fighting for the cause. And what the hell is more black and carefree than singing through life's obstacles.

Storyline I liked (NOT the musical)
Coco's reality TV ... Kelsey, the roommate was told ...
The line, "I never wanted to be a mother."
Al's soliloquy on his multi-national existence.
Lionel, defining his boundaries and keeping his relationship to himself. Not secret. Privacy.
Reggie "good guy with a gun"
Harvard sister (Joelle) "this is just a party. You have time to define the rest of it, after the party."

Where is the clear enjoyment of language?! A musical???!!! Really??? And the "hair" styles??? Aaaaaah. I want back my poignant soliloquy! Where is the fun and funny verbal volley??? Who yelled cut? WHO???
I am trying NOT to tune OUT.
I get it. I just have 3 volumes of how much better this could have been interpreted.
