Whether you Love them, hate them, or are indifferent to them, Kevin Smith puts his heart into every movie he makes. Some are better than others, but if you love movies you can watch any of them and be entertained
I love Kevin Smith! So much so my husband and I got married by him. He is so kind and genuinely an amazing human being. I also was an extra in reboot and on an episode of comic book men. He's had a huge impact on my life. I'm so grateful to the customer who recommended Clerks to me when I worked at Hollywood video.
"There's nothing wrong with just being a fan" Truer words have seldom been spoken. Kevin, if you're reading this, you make me feel good about being me, and I appreciate the hell outta you for that. I know times are tough these days, but I know we can make it we try.
So did Seth Rogen, in a sense, save Kevin Smith. Cause Kevin stated he was high when he had the stroke, but was able to relax because he was so high. The hero we didn't know we needed.
Can we all agree that ViewAskewniverse commentary tracks were probably the best commentary tracks ever laid down? Often just as fun as the films they were talking about. The friendly jabs, roasts, back-n-forth stuff. All so much fun.
While I like Red State, I wouldn't go so far as to call it "fantastic". But yeah, Red State's at least one of Goodman's best performances, and maybe his best role since Big Lebowksi, even though in Red State he's still overshadowed by Michael Parks.
We just moved into a new place in January and I found a Michael Parks 8-track in there, lol! If I ever meet Kevin Smith, I'm getting him to sign it! 😂😂😂

Red State and Tusk completely underrated. If he had released them under a pseudonym without that stupid "oh, it's a Kevin Smith movie?" stamp on it, they would've been celebrated (for what they are). Tusk was A24 btw, one more case where Smith was ahead of his time doing weird horror before the genre became a "cinephile" classic.
It’s true, those movies were ahead of the trend and I think that was the reason they didn’t do well. Jersey Girl also happened to be his most hated movie but it’s one of his best technically. I feel like Smith occasionally ventures out and tries to flex his creativity, then the critics wound him and he goes back to making something familiar and safe. He seems more comfortable when expectations are low. I hope he manages to break that cycle eventually, and becomes appreciated for his more creative efforts.
my personal pick for a Kevin Smith "in memorial" shot would be either in Clerks the line "you know there's a lot of fine looking chicks in the world, but not all of them bring you lasagna at work. most just cheat on you" or in Clerks 2 when he says "....i got nothing."
I recently watched 'Jersey Girl', and it's nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be all these years. Glad to see it's being somewhat re-evaluated.
So happy he talked about Red State! I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan and that has to be one of my favorites, if not my favorite! So simple yet so profound, relatable characters in a setting that's actually existed, really good actions scenes, still has humor, fantastic ending, killer Kevin Smith dialog, etc. Such a criminally underrated movie!
