I don't know where Michelle went, but i noticed that a lot of buzzfeed employees went to pretty prestigious colleges.

Very well said! As a current Google employee, I can attest that even a job at Google is still JUST a job - no matter what you end up doing, wherever it is, you gotta be sure it's something that you really, deeply love, that will make you excited and look forward to doing the work, instead of miserable that you need to drag your butt to work every morning. :)

I can't even find one internship that gives you a dollar to work there. Google pays you hourly and for everything else you need!

    • @TonyMon16
      @TonyMon16 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Ye and she still left it ... Google were desperate to get woman in to coding so it wont look sexist and can be cool... ye looks like they cant even pay MOST woman to learn coding...i would have taken her internship and i would still be there being the best damn coder they had.. but nah i dont have the right name or genitals. Someone like me would have to ace their tests, 100% and have a proven track record already. She got it handed to her even after failing most of the interview process. Very unfair.

yes the world is out to get educated males, this chick should check her privilege. I'm sure she was not qualified at all, and yet she had a vagina. Poor men everywhere are losing their jobs to incompetent women, and minorities, ugh! The humanity!

Antonio Aguilar Actually it is. It may be basic, but everyone has to start somewhere. It may be basic coding, but it is still coding.

+fanny pinka, Here we have it guys the ugly truth ,feminism is not for equality, they simply hate men and want everything handed to them for free. They could give a fuck about anyone else. Quite simply that opportunity could have gone to someone else more deserving and loyal. But no, your emotions are more important...this is why usa will no longer be a super power in 20 years time and china/India/middle east will crush you. Have fun for now , but once strength of the dollar falls down to pitiful levels you will see how stupid you been and then it will be " OH MEN SAVE US!!!", but by then all the men will be weak, super emotional pansies who never fired a gin in their lives.

Disclaimer: I have no experience at Google. I have friends who went for summer internships there as software engineers. I'm speaking from my experience when looking for internships at different industries, although I hope that some are applicable to Google as well.
The screening part is probably one of the most important steps because they literally receive thousands of applications and would only look for keywords in your resume: university, GPA, work experience, leadership experience - standard stuff (this takes about 3 seconds). If you don't have those, make sure that something else really stands out, for example (no idea whether she included this in her application) her being a professional cyclist, competed, and won. Google allows you to drop names of current Googlers, but not sure how useful that might be.
Depending on which function you're applying for (sales & marketing for her, the other would be engineering), needless to say the subsequent selection process would be different. If she said that she had a case interview, your best bet is definitely to practice. Hopefully, it's not as difficult as that for consulting firms.
Her last round was behavioral interview. I suppose we're already quite familiar with this. The goal is for both parties to get to know each other and to determine whether there's good cultural fit. By this time, it's highly likely that you'll get in.

It's now more focused on situational questions in order to learn how you think/act and basically what makes you tic :)

You just said it all with the fulfilling part. I just went though a similar experience. I was working in France and the paycheck was great, I had money for all that I needed and it was fantastic going shopping without looking at the bill. Needless to say I didn't make any savings, but it was great.
But it was like you said, if the job is not what you love, if you don't feel great doing it, it's not enough. So I fired myself, I took the chance of getting back out there. It was a challenge, I hate interviews and I don't have confidence in myself. But now, I found a new job, I do what I love in an amazing environment, it's fantastic.
I make a bit less at the end of the month but not dreading the week and not feeling that I want to rush home so I don't have to deal with the job anymore, it's fantastic and I really don't mind loosing a few bucks.
If you do what you love, in a nice place where you can be comfortable, that is all that you need

The first Interview Sounds sort of like the Oxford interviews.. Don't know if you had heard of those, but I think a question very similar to the Starbucks one was once asked :D

before an intern what coursework you did ?
what qualification you did before an intern ?

+Himanshu Maggu It depends what internship role or position you're looking for and what qualifications are required! For design internships for example, a portfolio is needed. What intern position are you looking for?

Can the internship be online, like do the work online.
The interview online and all that.
Cause the nearest google center is about 200 miles away and I can't make it there.

I know that a lot of people really like Buzzfeed videos and love to make videos. That's great and all, but you can't just make your whole life based on it. What if you don't enjoy it? What if you get fired? Buzzfeed does come with a lot of great thing like free food and cool gear, but sometimes the best things in life you have to work for. Also, look on Buzzfeed's job tab. It says even if you love the great things that Buzzfeed makes, it makes you blind to the real work you need to put into it.

I'm a graduating high school this year (hopefully) and want to go into multimedia in college. Whenever people ask me what job I want to have in the future, I never know what to answer them. I love how you said 'writing, directing, and producing my own content.' That pretty much sums up what I would like to do later on 😁 I was wondering, what title do you use when introducing your job to someone new? Thank youuu 😄

Damn, as someone who has such a demoralizing and demeaning job, I gotta say, I'd put up with any bullcrap for those perks and pay at google. Not saying people shouldn't follow their dreams or whats truly in their hearts but not all of us have that option unfortunately.
