"Most of the great memories were about making the best of a bad situation" - Story of every indian not born in super rich families, not just specific to IITs.

    • @superdhanshu
      @superdhanshu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@roshnikulkarni854 E.g.
      1. Playing hand cricket with friends at school with a ball made of polybags and rubbers - a good memory, but because we didn't have money to buy a lot of balls, plus school teachers would confiscate personal balls, plus the sports teacher would only give one soccer ball or volley ball or basket ball to a class of 30 buys.
      2. watching crappy movies on sunday at 2 pm on DD1/DD2 and having that as a good memory, because cable/VHS were privileges.
      3. memories of travelling by train with an unconfirmed ticket while sitting on floors.
These are just a few examples of some funky experiences growing up. These are all good memories, but really were just ways to cope up with a bad situation! I am sure if you think about it carefully, you will realize that a lot of your memories, unless you are born and brought up in a fairly affluent and privileged family, would turn out to be the same!

Oh boy where do I begin...
I am the student Jeetu bhaiya talked about after giving 3 years of my life mein IIT nahi nikal paya . I was destroyed internally , my father literally fell on the ground after seeing my result . Result ke bad ki wo 3 din kabhi nahi bhul sakta mein. Bahut kuch guzra tha dimaag mein . I always thought myself to be a smart person, padhne likhne ke alawa zyada kuch nahi kiya mein , par jab mein fail hua tu pata nahi self respect ki tu dhajjiya udh gaye thi .After that maine kuch bhi nahi kiya abhi bhi mein bare minimum karta ho . I still feel bad ki mera nahi hua IIT and even if I know the fight isn't over yet it makes me doubt my ability ki agar ye wali fight nahi jeeta tu age wali kaise jeetunga

Am an alumnus of Kgp, and frankly speaking it all fades after 6 months of JEE, and it doesn't matter at all in job. Its just marketing that made IITs look like a heaven. I was getting NDA, I instead went for IIT, and I regret that. Myself being an iit aspirant connected to this literally everyone in my family, friends and teachers are on me ki tereko iit hii nikalna hai and that too in computer science engineering
I'm seriously fed up of this system
They justify this by giving statements like "aage jobs mei technical knowledge hona chahiye", " upsc crack krne mei madad milegi" and many more there is already so much pressure on a student (like me) because everyone has so much of expectations from me I love computer science but the amount of expectations they come with are looking unachievable to me now they want us to do various activities also, they want us to sleep for 7 hours also, they want us to study for 15 hours also, they want 98+ percentage in board exams also, they want us to crack iit also and that too in best branch and if we fail in even one they call us a failure for life last year my cousin got 95 percentage in boards but was not able to crack iit and was bombarded with critisism
Life has become more like a survival game where we are running with out last live left one mistake means game over

To be honest most of the research work at IITs is being done by the Masters and Phd scholars while most of the Btech students deviate from their core engineering deciplines by the end of 4th year, i am not saying we undergrad students don't contribute to IIT being the top engg institution but there are hell lot of other factors that u have missed here..
U haven't even experienced the extra curricular activities that you can take part into here at IIT.. i am not saying its easy here at IIT but with a right mindset things can be managed...i have seen students getting crushed under pressure and also students who ride the pressure like an experienced surfer .... its highly competitive here its like someone who was topper of his or her school is now among the low performer of his batch , someone has to be at bottom for someone else to claim he or she is at the top and that's fucked up because nobody is actually stupid here but the bars are so high...

Also Boeing or Airbus may take me in their research program during campus placements because they know i have experimented under XYZ faculty in a wind tunnel testing facility which is available of IIT Kanpur.

I am a final year engineering student at a 3-tier college from the Computer Science branch.
These are some pointers that I have gained over the last 4 years study tenure:
    1. People tend to be emphasizing on getting into best colleges for placements. But the reality is that its just required to have a great networking and exposure.
    2. Majority of the students underperform during college cause they tend to be complacent after they have achieved a seat in an institution due to the fact that they didnt get ample freedom during school times and they were busy slogging.
    3. In majority of the cases students tend to have much more knowledge as compared to the professors. Also the syllabus and curriculums are unrevolutionized and not catering to the needs of the current market.
    4. Degrees are just hall tickets to the job market. The criterion by which companies recruit you have nothing to do what you have studied in your 4 years of college. I gave my TCS NQT 4 months back and the first qualifying round was the aptitude round which comprises of maths problems from class 9th and 10th.

    • @guiltypleasures9622

TLDR: Disagree with the comment. Whom are you trying to fool. It's misleading to the aspirants. College matters and do work hard to get into a tier 1 college. Not that it is compulsory but definitely a huge initial boost to your career and not something to be taken litely.
Myself studying in a tier one college...
      1. Our *Socially Active* Almuni are in in 10s of thousands in closed groups, also comprising of graduates from 1990s, people being paid in 7 figures and just one message is enough even for a fresher to connect with any of them. What better *great networking and exposure could you get?*
      2. The atmosphere that college creates, there's no way one can underperform. Everyone recognizes what they need and masters the required skills. There will be a few exceptions but they are exceptions after all. However even they'd be in a worse situation if they're from a local college.
      3. Our professors either have a phd from foreign universities or old iits with vast industry experience. They are experts in their fields. Go to any of tier 1 clg (BITS and old IITs incl. 2008 established ones) website and see their profiles for yourself. We have minors in booming fields in the current market (Data Science, Finance, Robotics etc.,). MNCs hire us just looking at the offshoot scores without an interview.
      4. Fun Fact: TCS doesn't come to our campus placements. The CTCs they offer is not even closely enough for us to allow them. Our Summer Internships pay 3-4 times that xD.

Also who told you one has to grind (online sem is an exception :( that too mostly cuz we're in a pandemic). we don't even have a compulsory attendance requirement lol. one can utilize the time to pursue his/her interests. Most people that complain are those that doesn't come out of their schooling times and still worry about academic competition and expectation (many of the recent batch is like this as they have their first year completely online. I can understand for those who have not lived that life, the series may start to bore a bit, but for me, it was just a long walk back to those lush greenery, cycling back through those lanes, having a sip of tea and a plate of Maggie at Tikka with my classmates and just being free inside that 2100 acre campus.❤️

I have been to IIT kanpur for 5 days during their fest, and the facts mentioned in the series were so true... the campus is active till 4 am. in the morning!! People even play outdoor games at tht time !!! The competition is pretty high... and the insecurity that girls feel in their own campus is sooo true as well... even we as guest there has felt tht...
And one thing that moved me was... after the 3-day fest ended at 4 am in the morning... at 9 am I saw many groups of students cycling to their respective branch buildings for academic purpose.🥴

But watching what happens when someone working equally hard lands up a place in IIT/NIT and then the same story being repeated ...
Should we be happy that everyone is in same boat or should we normalise that there is nothing great about cracking these exams and you are still part of the herd even though you managed to get a seat ?

Excellent series, made me remember my struggle 7yrs back , now that I look back the IIT dream is no longer that rosy dream for me, as I went into a private college. After entering the corporate sector, I have realised that companies now more than ever don't bother about my college rather than my skills. And now many IITians being in the same company as I am. That was strangely not a relief(for me and other pvt college students) but a reality for many students after college, that things are not what they think after graduation. Anyhow lately with increasing new IITs/NITs by the central government will give chance to more students, the student count has been increasing every year, atleast now they will face with some reduced pressure/expectations to study that hard in 11 and 12.

I'm a recent graduate from one of old IITs and let me share my perspective of why students don't wish to study in its colleges. Due to the huge scale marketing of its and packages, every person expects a monthly salary of 6 figures but how they donot know. They studied PCM for 2 years listening to "ek baar jee kr lo phir to life set h" but how, what should we pursue and how? The first year of engineering is basically the things you have studied during JEE but at that time you were in a race with the final goal of achieving iit but now when you achieved it you realise that you have to be part of it again and this time for 4 years. No doubt, that many students do study and I'm not tarnishing or mocking iits or other colleges but the truth is truth. As said in the video, what is the use of this independence after 2years where students don't know what is good for them after 2years of locking in a room.

Some shots are real and unscripted directly taken from students' phone gallery and also I was present there during some of scenes like a TOAT open addressing suicide issues. 4th Electrical Engineering undergrad at IITM here. I dropped out of JEE coaching within a month as they sucked the joy out of learning for me. In that respect, I did not have the feeling of a lot of freedom after a total lockdown for two years. But still, once you make it into an IIT, for some time, you are just lost. JEE time, you have one purpose in life. Once you get that, you do not really know what do you even want to do. And by the time you are figuring stuff out in your new college, BAM! It is time for quiz 1! The first year is usually relaxed, but after that, it can get really, really stressful. I have had situations of 10 exams and deadlines in a week. Have seen placements live being a part of the team. It's great for those who can get their dream jobs in a day or two. But for people who struggle longer than that, I have seen them break down, cry, and leave for their homes in the middle of the placement season. This is more so because of the fact that mental health is not prioritized one bit. But there are a lot of positives also: professors who are established researchers in their fields. Men and women you look up to and aspire to be like. The ragging culture is also almost non-existent and seniors, in general, are very helpful.

I am someone who was never so icky about getting into the best college, and I am happy with the degrees I have. But, the boys and men I saw in this documentary made me think that for them even the 12 lpa is not enough. On the other hand, we are offered only 2 lpa stating that we don't deserve more. It was nice to have an entry into the world that we will never see.

Having experienced these 4 years in an engineering college, I could identify with all aspects shown here. It is pretty accurate as they are not actors but real students. One of the important points highlighted is the fact that you have to process everything inside that campus- hope, aspiration, friendship, despair, happiness.
Also, the process of getting your branch is not randomized....you get it as per your AIR. The point they wanted to say is that you end up having a branch which you may not identify much with.

3:31 I want to ask this guy - "haan bhai, maa se dubara baat hui?"
DUDE, IT WAS SO GENUINELY HILARIOUS!! Loved this guy, and her mom obviously.
Also, thank you for this video. I was pretty confused how should I put into words thinking about my own review for this. One of my friend said he read pretty bad reviews for this documentary even though IMDb have rated it well. I was quite surprised at this that how can there be negative reviews, like exactly what can be in the negative acknowledgement about this documentary? Nevertheless, I have shared this review video with him. Hope he will get clarity and would like to watch it. According to me, the most important and personal favourite episode was Episode 2. It kind of sum up the whole point and reasoning for excessive glorification into getting into IITs at the very first place, either by influence of parents, kids, social media, news media, and more - or own their own choice. By looking at the trailer, I was genuinely impressed by the girl who said "numbers are everywhere and are the root cause of all problems" and she's outstanding and really intelligent because the way she conveyed her thought into everything. You don't actually see a raw and transparent female representation into any sort of entertainment/streaming media about their intelligence and strength, so it stands out pretty impressive for me. This girl and the guy with the glasses... Both knew what they were talking about and explaining everything from the subject's core. I can pretty much agree on the fact that this documentary doesn't feature much of the female narratives and interviews, else it was a full representation of the stories of students. Like the title of this episode's specific part, girls were in the same range of this documentary. Now, I'm really not sure whether this was a similar hit taken by the director/creator to let or make someone recognise that just like real world, you haven't listened and got to know the other side of narratives than boys. Nevertheless, happy to see even two interviewees talking out so confidently and truthfully with actual acknowledgement of everyone's lives and our world, making a benchmark about girls having scholarly and intellectual potentials as well - opposite to what's still prevalent in the mainstream. Netflix's 3-episode documentaries are becoming some of my favourites. Few days back I have watched "Don't F* With Cats" and I just loved it! Watching more documentaries these days.
