Great job, glad you all survived a pretty brisk day! Two suggestions for future similar ventures if you care to entertain them: (1) your orientation maps were great but it took a while for you to show them. I was actually unsure where you were at as you moved south to stage the charge, so showing your location on a map more regularly would have helped. (2) I know a lot happened along the roads, but don't select roadsides as your stopping points. Traffic noise is bad and I fear for your lives! THANK YOU to all 3 of you for providing this great service along with your knowledge!
An excellent presentation. I'm not sure I've ever seen a better breakdown of Pickett's Charge. Two of Gettysburg's finer guides/authors/historians/men of the people.
I appreciate the commentary at 1:54 regarding the severity of the fight at the angle. Some of the accounts I've read from the Massachusetts regiments there sound like that fight was just as severe as anything at Spotsylvania Courthouse.
This has been incredibly helpful. I am so grateful. After five decades of interest in this battle and probably over twenty visits, I have a whole new level of understanding of this part of the Confederate's experience! Many thanks!!
I've just started Allen Guelzo's book on Gettysburg. This is a great video to get some perspective on the charge. I'm looking forward to visiting Gettysburg sometime soon. BTW Wayne's got a great laugh. Reminds me of Penn Jillette's laugh.
Great program gentlemen. I have an ancestor who was in the 14th Virginia under Armisted. Though hit in the left shoulder during the charge, he survived. Thanks for your work.
Follow up, Walking Wednesdays are a great complement to Monument Mondays. There is, literally, nothing here to criticize. All good info, enthusiastic presentation, the energy level is palpable. And, not to be overlooked, a great story underpins the incredible presentation. Great job. Thanks, guys.
Outstanding walk. Great explanation and demonstration of the elevations. Hats off to Meade, Hancock, etc. Terrible arithmetic and unbelievable courage at the end.
That was wonderful! My pet name for the charge is "Longstreet's Minor Assault at Gettysburg" - but, well, I'm a bit biased... If you are looking for ideas to tack onto the list - you mentioned Kemper's Brigade occasionally on the tour, but I think that is also one of those walking tours you have to "see" to really understand the magnitude of what they accomplished. I was very (very!) fortunate to have a tour w/ LBG Jim Martin (RIP) a long, long time ago on it, and that is still one of my favorite all-time GB tours. Thanks so much for doing this!
This video was very helpful. I have walked the fields before, but never had the perspective from the Pitzer Farm or the positiion of the 53 Va south of the Point of Woods. I have walked the Spangler Farm Lane, which helps with the topographical perspectives.
Outstanding! Having studied the battle of Gettysburg for close to 30 years, and watching videos and reading books and going on battlefield walks regarding Ricketts charge, and thinking I've seen and heard everything there is to hear, this video is packed full of Information and visual perspectives that I have never experienced. Great job.
Awesome vid ! Read many books and been to Gettysburg several times. But this certainly has been an eye opener for me. Looking on a map is one thing, but actually seeing how far forward Garnett's brigade was really makes one see things differently. More vids like this, please!
This was awesome. Hope to see similar videos in the future. Thanks for your hard work in creating such an in depth presentation. For a lot of people, including myself, this is as close as it gets to being on a battlefield tour.
Lol, I like both these guys, they are a veritable cornucopia of information, and I agree that this is a literal blow-by-blow account by individual units. I found the constant spinning of the camera and the changing of direction to be disorienting - but I will concede that, undeniably, the battle was indeed a swirling maelstrom, not unlike the presentation. That's not so much a criticism, as it's a reflection of the reality of this part of the battle., that being confusion, swirling action, contradictory initiatives, etc. So, on whole, good stuff!
Was Pickett a little drunk and why did he not go with the charge? Its unseemly that he hung back and watched from afar when he was one of those that talked a good fight yet never was in the mix of the battle.
The wheelbarrow itself is heavy. It takes work to push it if it's empty. The wheelbarrow is useful when the load weight is greater than you can carry and it's unwieldy. It's a terrible example of design to be proud of if you have ever used one. lol

Two of my favorite historians. They both do a tremendous job for Gettysburg Battle knowledge. Great video.
Certainly so, Mr. Snyder👍
Great job, please do a walk on Culp's hill before the under growth returns
Thanks Jim and Bob for the effort on a cold and windy step back in time
YOU ARE WELCOME ROBERT......
The Motts / Hessler book on Pickett’s Charge is the GRAY'S ANATOMY of Day 3. It is that good.
I was expecting some kind of 15-20 minute video, but this is amazing. It's like being on an actual in-person tour with a Licensed Battlefield Guide. 👍
To a budding amateur historian, this is absolute gold! These guys are awesome. Also, the one fella is very jolly, which makes it even better.
So awesome excited for this series.

Mr. Motts was the voice of the battlefield driving tour CD on my first visit in 2000. That was a great tour and brings back a lot of memories.
An excellent presentation. I'm not sure I've ever seen a better breakdown of Pickett's Charge. Two of Gettysburg's finer guides/authors/historians/men of the people.
Can't say I have either, Mr. Wilhelm
Thanks, guys, for taking us on this hike into Gettysburg's final conflict..
Outstanding presentation, Wayne Motts and Jim Hessler, and great camera by Bob. Thank you, all.
Excellent video. Thank you very much!
I really appreciated the slow panning and smooth camera work. Great job and thanks for the nerdy history 🤓
Great Job and Thank you.

Lucky that you got Jim to do this. First class guy.
Thank you gentlemen, an excellent battlefield walk & talk.

Looks cold. 73 deg here in North Aladamnbama. Appreciate you folks doing the walk.
It was actually over 70 deg in Gettysburg today. The video was probably recorded a couple of weeks ago.
it was recorded Feb 18th
Thanks what a great idea
This is GOLD! Great job fellas!
Great program gentlemen. I have an ancestor who was in the 14th Virginia under Armisted. Though hit in the left shoulder during the charge, he survived. Thanks for your work.
Great job fella's ! Charge !
Great video!
Awesome video. I did an all day walking tour of Pickett's Charge many years ago with Wayne at the Civil War Institute. This was a great refresher.
Thank you Wayne and Jim for your great work here
Did this walk during a tour with Wayne Motts during the Civil War Institute a few years back. GREAT stuff.
Such a great video. Really gives a tremendous insight into the charge. Real sense of being there
Excellent presentation. Thank you both!
an absolutely outstanding interpretation ,matched to field terrain, doesn,t get any better

Excellent explanation and experience of the Charge.
Where was Pickett? Safe in a barn?
Great job men ! Charge !
God bless these men, national treasures
This is awesome... I've been able to visit twice and this just fuels that passion. Thank you !
Thank you sharing with us!!
That was wonderful!

amazing presentation... Best I have ever seen on Pickets Charge.... Please keep doing them.. You guys are a great team!!! I am learning so much!
A wonderful account! Thank-you for freezing for our education and understanding! Tom and Heather.
My great grandfather, Thomas Kelley, was in the Mass 20th and was killed in Pickett's charge. He is buried at Gettysburg.

Strong work my friends!
Looks cold to me.
Well done!! I was just there recently so your detailed review was especially interesting for me!!
I’d love to do this in the winter. Done it in the middle of summer and it was awful.
fighting in winter must have been pretty tough

Did the NPS do a walk on the 3rd ? I don't think so. If not damned shame.
Maybe Pickett and his staff ate lunch at the buffet.
Was Pickett a little drunk and why did he not go with the charge? Its unseemly that he hung back and watched from afar when he was one of those that talked a good fight yet never was in the mix of the battle.
Safe in a barn? Lee was right...Pickett wad a bum.
Loser Lee should not be featured in any American battlefield park.
