  • They're some of the weakest Pokemon in the franchise... but can they take on one of its hardest challenges?
    We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Crystal Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Grass types?

    Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
    (1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
    (2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
    (3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
    (4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
    (5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
    (6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
    (7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
    (8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

      Yeah, well, in Gen 1, the fire type starter was considered the "hard mode" for Pokemon, as the first two gyms were pretty rough on it and there weren't many gyms that Charmander was good against. In Gen 2, it was changed around to Grass being the "hard mode." So, if you picked the grass type in Gen 1, you'd have a much easier time of it than if you picked the grass type in Gen 2.

    • @skeetermania3202
      @skeetermania3202 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@SilphSpectre Fortunately, you could do that in HGSS since Mareep is available before the first gym. However, that’s all you’re going to have up until the fourth gym unless you resort to the Pokéwalker (Elekid is available at the cost of 500 watts and 5000+ steps).
      For every 20 steps, 1 watt is earned. Discounting extraneous ones your Pokémon could find, every 5000 steps you take, you’ll earn 250 watts, meaning you may have to walk at least 10000 steps for this to be possible.
      Speaking of which, if you do do such a run, make it your first run of a Johto game that actually does Kanto. From there, the options open up (Pikachu in Viridian Forest, Plusle and Minun through Hoenn Sound, and Shinx with Sinnoh Sound).
      On the other side of the coin, have you ever planned to do HNs in Gen 6 or later?

    13:52 : over easy, but before I flip it I put some cheese and a slice of ham over it. The ham gets nice and seared, the cheese gets melty and crispy on the edges; and the yolk stays runny while the white is all cooked. I eat it over a bowl of rice, which is the best thing to mix a runny yolk into. Mmmm, now I’m hungry…

    13:55 Well... let’s put it this way... If an egg (for eating) was sentient, I’d let it look at the frying pan in horror, before sticking it on my plate. The runnier the better.

  • @Odlaw91

    I had few ideas how to avoid having to rely on Flash strats. For example - abusing weird EV mechanics of gen 2, doing switch battles with lvl 2 pokemon instead of grinding exp normally, which allows us to get bunch more fights down before getting to the level cap. To test this out i got a chicorita, cloned the savefile and trained it up to 9 progressing normally and - on the cloned save - avoided all trainers i can and used a good chunk of my time to grind rattatas for 8xp. The result? Literally same stats. Not a single point of difference. Back to the drawing board.

    1. Why not wait for Weepinbell learn razor leaf before evolving? If I remember correctly victreebell doesn't learn it by lvl up.
    2. Hidden power ice😏
    3. Same as #1 for gloom for petal dance.

    • @willowwhisper6575
      @willowwhisper6575 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess he prefered having bulkier Pokémon than to wait for stronger attacks. Bellsprout learns Razor Leaf at lvl 37 and Oddish learns Petal Dance at lvl 39, way too late if you ask me 😅
