    A nice and true tribute about America Birthday. It is crazy how fast you believe trains are going until you use your raydar gun.

    With their bright colors, the Union Pacific locomotives are my favorite. Thank you for filming them and for sharing their passage, which is rarer than that of the CSX locomotives.

    I don't think the radar is disappointing - it tells the tale of the trains and track speed. Safety is paramount and they follow the track speed to avoid derailments mostly. I still say they are booking and that is one of the cool parts of watching trains - the speed :) Thanks for the speed checks!

    Coil train was really neat. Thanks for telling why it's called the RatHole. I'll sleep all night by the BNSF Chicago-Denver mainline tracks in my area in my car sometimes. Some of the best stuff comes through in the middle of the night. The hotshot locals with the older EMD 4 axle locomotives are the greatest when they come chugging through.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like doing that also. You get surprised by a train when you least expect it

    LOVE the country railroad crossings the best and keep filming them, JT! I sure hope the people out there DO stop at those crossings with "Stop" signs. That first crossing had HUGE trees on one side blocking views of approaching trains and the drivers better be alert and stop before proceeding if no train is coming.

      @@JawTooth You are very welcome. Your train videos are always quite interesting and educational since I see trains from the opposite side of the country where I have very little knowledge of since I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. and currently live in Albuquerque, NM. I also LOVE the rooster beginning along with your sense of humor, darling pets, nice family and your interesting slide shows at the end with GREAT shots of the trains AND some of the more impressive and colorful graffiti on the cars. Keep up your FINE work and cheers from the Southwest!

    JT, may I suggest, to try shooting the last car after it comes by you. Jason did it in one of his videos and the speed jumped up about 6 or 7 MPH from the low 20s to the upper 20s.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I will try that. Thanks for watching!

    • @boggy7665

      For the last train, if the angle was 30 degrees, then with indicated speed 33, gives 33 divided by cosine of 30 degrees equals around 38 mph.

    Nice clouds out there today. Train #3 short and sweet. Steel rules! Quite a few CP family which probably went by my viewing areas near Milwaukee. Alas the old style SOO cars now sold off and nary a single Canadian Wheat Bureau car also nearing sale or retirement. Glad you were able to enjoy the fireworks many were delayed due to storms. Some tonight yet!

    Jawtooth, thanks for another good video! Yes, the Rathole (Cincinnati New Orleans and Texas Pacific Railway), still owned by the city of Cincinnati, had numerous narrow tunnels and narrow cuts - so many in fact that rail fans called it the "Rathole".
    They have "daylighted" a lot of the tunnels (took the top off of them) and widened cuts for "wide loads".
    SOuthern Railway leased CNO&TP for years, now NS does. The only major railroad owned by a municipality. Wikipedia has a nice article about it.
    Keep that video goin' Son!

    JT, why do the NS manifests for both trains in this video have UP locomotives? Inquiring minds want to know??

      I think it's because when a RR company rents a loco it's more convenient for them to leave it with them and in return they do the same.

    Hey JT, I'm from Marion , IN, Ive been to the Rat Hole many times over the years, Some of my personal favorite locations was south of Danville ,KY. Kings Mountain and Burnside and Tate, KY to mention a few. It's been several years since I have went south of there now. My most recent visits have been just north of Danville to Cincinnati and have found several interesting locations with old wood bridges and neat curves. High Bridge is a really cool place. In this video you shot, you are at a crossing with the NS and CSX line near each other. I haven't come cross this and I really don't have any idea where this location is. I am guessing the CSX is the LCL sub running along side the NS Rat hole. I assume this location is close to the Ohio River near Latonia, KY. Can you confirm for me. Thanks for any help. I enjoy your videos very much, I just missed you by a day at Muncie, IN on your visit there. I visit Muncie a lot as it is only 40 minutes away from my home. Keep up the good work on your outings.

    Great views of the first trains
    At least a couple of feet away
    Has anyone from the railroads
    Said anything to you
    About being so close to their trains?
