People talk about a lot of Lewis Hamilton's records, but I think that the most impressive stat of his career is that he is the only driver ever to crash with Maldonado without it being Pastor's fault. And he did it not once, but twice 😂🐐

Well at least a personal record, not a record of the best car of the year ( Mercedes)😊

You never quite knew what you were going to get from Maldonado. Quick on his day but very inconsistent. His 2012 season alone sums up his career nicely. Williams had actually built a decent car as well.
While he is one of the big 2010s F1 memes thanks to his crashes (colliding with both Force Indias at the Bus Stop in 2013 is one that sticks in my mind (not entirely his own fault though), as is of course flipping over Gutiérrez at Bahrain the following year), one of my favourite Maldonado moments was that save at the Red Bull Ring while fighting Verstappen (happy that that was shown in the video).

Nice one Nedzo. I love it when someone gives an alternative view on a driver a lot just kick to the kerb. They forget about the good stuff and focus on the bad. To win a race makes that driver awesome on the day. Nowt wrong with a driver going for it imo. Although we have to mark em down for the silly stuff. Not a great but not the worst by a long shot. Keep up the good work. Great content, well researched.

Although he is well known by newer fans because of the memes, I think Maldonaldo was like a more extreme version of Grosjean. He could drive well on his day but too inconsistent to be considered good. Although I don’t think Maldonaldo belongs in the list of worst drivers and he’s not even close

When I think about Maldonado I often think about a book I read about other F1 drivers who never really took of: those drivers were usually very fast but also prone to crashes as they often drove on the edge. And if they kept themselves under control they would suffer for it

The unfortunate tale of a legend in Venezuelan motorsport, Pastor really showed that South America still had many F1 driver candidates ready to pounce at the first available seat on the grid. Very decent junior career (even with that 4 race ban), an excellent Williams campaign bar 2013, and a somewhat disappointing Lotus stint before evaporating from the grid all together. Unfulfilled potential? Most surely. Very inconsistent? Also true. Him of all people holding the last Williams win up high? You better believe it.

"If in doubt, go flat out." I know that's a McRae aphorism, but it could have been Maldonado's just as easily.
I think his drive for results proved costly in a lot of cases. Take the example of chasing down Alonso for 5th. Or even some of his fights with Hamilton. Could he have got those positions with a bit of patience and racecraft? Alonso no. The others, maybe.
As for worse drivers: Yuji Ide, Karun Chandock, Narain Karthikayan, Bruno Senna. Then you have guys like Stroll or K-Mag. And Mr p11 himself, Jolyon Palmer. You could always rely on him to pull himself out of points contention.
But, it doesn't really matter who the worst drivers were. Arguably you could say there were great drivers who never won who were more capable than Maldonado. You could also say there were worse race winners, eg Heikki Kovaleinen.
As with all these drivers, he will ultimately be remembered for his actual results, not his potential. Which is a shame, but it's how these things go.

On his day, Pastor Maldonado was unbeatable and if he had better reliability could have won multiple races in 2012, but for every brilliant performance he gave, it was overshadowed by incidents that left the rest of us scratching our heads. Monaco 2012, one race on from his win is a case in point. An unnecessary collision with Perez left him at the back of the grid before crashing again later that same session and his race lasted less than half a lap as he ran into the back of de la Rosa's HRT, breaking the Spaniard's rear wing and left his own front wing stuck under the car, which left him stranded at the Hairpin.

Very Nedzo video this, tbh I don't believe Maldonado was in the top really even 10 for 2012; my top 5 would be Alonso 1st, Vettel 2nd, Hamilton just beating out Raikkonen to 3rd and then Button P5 just ahead of Webber and Hulkenburg. Monaco 11 not his fault, Valencia 12 I'd probably just about say was but it was really a racing incident tbh should have kept his 10th. I'm forever grateful for his win in Spain as it helped Vettel keep his title later down the line lol! 😂 He drove cars for 5 years lol, nothing else happened.

@nedzosf1gridbox 2012 was that crazy that Button probably just got there via the fact that he got 3 wins and was 2 points off of Hamilton. Could have put Webber there but in a similar car with similar luck levels he was slightly worse tbh. Hulkenburg and Rosberg could also have gotten it but like Hulkenburg blew his big chance and Rosberg's last 6 races he didn't really exist so Button got that 5th spot that no one really seemed to want lol!
