it isnt a lie. it's a tech demo. proof that it's possible. they never said it was gonna be released. it just showed what the console is capable off, nobody just bothered actually implementing it in a game, probably because of commercial reasons

It's considered official vaporware. Which means the project was never talked about ever again and was officially considered done. This isn't coming out and the company went out years ago.

When Claire started the """""game""""" she asked Milo if there is a god - for a few moments which felt like an eternity, the little boy looked silently at her with his blank and off putting dead eyes straight from the uncanny valley and eventually answered with a creepy whisper: There is one now!... that wasn`t acted!

There is zero gameplay. It is only a video of milo. The only place where there is a little gameplay is the part where the woman touches the water.

This is obviously nothing but a video playing and a woman pretending to have any influence on what's going to happen. At 0:30, if the woman had said: "Im feeling like eating a hamburger", Milo would have responeded: "You, nervous? I don't believe it."

This is exactly what I thought when I saw her so close to the tv.
You're right. This demonstration was completely motion captured and voice recorded, rehearsed with the actress and that's what we saw. No procedural animation, no AI voice. Nothing mind boggling.
It's really only a demonstration of the concept, of what could sort of be possible with "Natal".
Voice, face, pose, emotion and print recognition is certainly possible and I wouldn't doubt Natal is capable of that, but the whole idea they're trying to sell, is sofar a big fat lie.

Crazy that from our perspective we see Milo looking off to the side towards Claire. Obviously it wouldn't look like that if it wasn't all completely fake!
Poor Mr. Molyneux, he just gets too much enthusiastic about things.
This would only work if the child/whatever talking back to you had a monotone robot voice that just reads out text a computer typed into it. No way an actual voice could have a gazillion lines of different dialog.
indeed. although computer narrators have improved greatly in terms of intonation and speech, theyre still obviously artificial. this whole demo was 80% staged and the actual possibilities are severely limited. The actual interactions were minimal, the rest of the time the wopan was just talking to herself

I get the feeling that the developers knew that this project could never happen. It would be impossible to program MIlo and do the voice acting to account for all the emotions, topics, and actions involved with this sort of concept. At this point, no video game has ever come close to genuine interaction with a human, and unless some miracle happens, no game will for a while.
I think they made this game to show off and to make us excited for what Kinect could deliver (even though it can't).
What's funny is the text bots(like in AI Dungeon) are the best we have a decade later.

Because technology was moving at a more rapid pace in the early 2000s. Moores law hadn't slowed down yet and with smartphones, touchscreens and led tvs being invented, we thought anything was possible and technology was moving faster than it was..
The Kinect was new, and filled peoples imaginations. Besides, you never know what is or isn't possible until it is done.

its a new technology, meant to show just how far we can go. imagine an fps where you can order your units as to where they go, which sections they cover, draw floor plans for them, tell them how many meters to go, order some to scan while others snipe, and REALLY be in the game. how awesome would that be?

I think that this could be the best part of Natal. Imagine a game like Fallout, with a standard Controller, but when you talk to characters you can say anything that you want and they will respond. Complex games, but they could be amazing.
