A single mother of four's gratitude to Prime Minister Marape for HELP

- After the graduation ceremony on April 5, 2024, at the University of Technology in Lae, Ms. Yure Wai, a resilient single mother from Chimbu, now residing in West New Britain, expressed her profound gratitude towards Prime Minister Hon. James Marape. The reason? The transformative impact of the Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP) on her family's life. Her son, Ismael Wai, proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Business in Management, a milestone achieved with the support of HELP, a flagship initiative of the Marape Government since 2020.
This touching story sheds light on the broader success of HELP, which has supported over 35,000 students across 58 institutions nationwide, with an investment totaling K178 million up until 2023. Prime Minister Marape's announcement at the ceremony underscored the government's commitment to increasing education accessibility, with a further K50 million allocated for 2024.
Apart from HELP, the Tertiary Education Study Assistance Scheme (TESAS), has benefited more than 67,763 students from 2020 to 2023 with K291 million in funding. This year alone, 19,600 students are set to benefit from an unprecedented K83 million in funding.

Thank you PMJM for this initiation for the HELP Program. I am similar to this brother but worse to my parents. My parents are illiterate and back in a rural village and do not earn much income in a month but thank God for giving the PM a fantastic idea for initiation to help unfortunate ones like me and this brother. Because of this HELP Program, I got loans in my second year all the way to my final year and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree at UoT.
