Historic visit by Prime Minister Marape to Karamui brings major development initiatives

  • On Friday, October 9, 2020, Prime Minister Hon. James Marape made a historic visit to the remote Karamui in Chimbu Province. During this visit, he announced significant funding and development initiatives:
    - K10 million allocated to initiate work on the long-overdue road linking remote Karamui-Nomane, a district with massive agricultural potential, to the rest of Chimbu.
    - K2 million provided for educational development in the district.
    - Launched a new bridge project.
    Prime Minister Marape was accompanied by several key political figures:
    - Chimbu Governor Hon. Michael Dua (United Resources Party)
    - Karamui-Nomane MP Hon. Geoffrey Kama (Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party)
    - Kundiawa MP and Energy Minister Hon. William Onglo (United Resources Party)
    - Sinasina-Yongomugl MP and Petroleum Minister Hon. Kerenga Kua (National Party)
    - Chuave MP and Minister for Environment Conservation and Climate Change Hon. Wera Mori (Pangu Pati)
    Other notable attendees included:
    - Works Minister Hon. Michael Nali
    - Secretary David Wereh
    - Agriculture and Livestock Minister Hon. John Simon
    - Transport and Infrastructure Minister Hon. William Samb
    - Vice-Minister for Treasury and Tambul-Nebilyer MP Hon. Win Baki Dakri
    - West Sepik Governor Hon. Tony Wouwou
    - Former Treasurer and Kandep MP, Don Polye, founder of THE Party
    Works Minister Nali contributed an additional K1.9 million to the road project. Prime Minister Marape commended Mr. Kama for sacrificing his Labour Ministry during the recent ministerial reshuffle to ensure political stability. The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of the road, stating that he hopes to travel by road to Karamui when he campaigns for Mr. Kama in 2022.
    Prime Minister Marape's visit included a trip to Kundiawa on Friday, followed by a return to Karamui on Saturday, where he spent the Sabbath with the local community.
