James Brand is a life style company, not a knife company. That being said, they do actually make pretty good knives if you ignore the absurd mark up against their competition. I do appreciate the move to American made. At least now hipsters will be buying overpriced American shit instead of overpriced Chinese shit.
This thing is what the elementum aspires to be. Like an elementum for grown ups lol. I feel like this being a boutique brand always charged a bit more than they should be for what you’re getting, but I still love the brand and have actually been using their carabiner for my keys for the last 5 years now and the spring retention is still as strong as it was when I got it. My only hold off on buying one is the price being the same as an xm18. Not that the price is bad at all. More my preference being overbuilt hard use knives. This knife sits right in the area that my titanium 940 fills right now. Eventually I might pick one up though.
I own 2 button-lock knives that I consider to have a snappy deployment. In the budget category, the Kizer Assassin. In the mid-premium category, the WE Culex. I own 4 JB knives, but this one is pushing the pricing limits. I get the lifestyle element, which is why I own several of their knives & products, but this one is hard to swallow. The nicest button-lock I own is the Exciton. I'd like to see a comparison video between the Wells and Exciton.
I really like the design and shape of this knife. It desperately needs a few corrections to really be a winner for me though: 1.) get rid of that billboarding. You are completely wrong in your short, there is no justification for that, and it's ugly. 2.) Fix the button. The recess for the button is way too tight, the button does not stick up, and it is clearly very difficult to use. 3.) $250 price tag, so it's priced accurately. Maaaaybe $275.
Every time TJB posts anything, dudes come SCREAAAAAMING in to moan about the pricing. They do charge a bit, but at this point I almost feel like there's a bullying situation going on where dudes just dogpile certain brands, despite never intending to buy a thing.
I knock the price a bit but also have owned multiple knives from them and currently carry my keys on one of their carabiners. It’s been my key solution the last 5 years and it’s still amazing. Is $45 high for an anodized Aluminum carabiner? Yea, probably. Does it work? Phenomenally well and I’ll certainly buy more.
They are like Benchmade. They charge too much for what you are getting. It's simple. There's no reason in the knife world to pay that much for an aluminum handle flipper. The Protech Strider is an aluminum magnacut auto for half the price.
I really get tired of the people complaining about the price. DONT BUY IT. Easy solution. Now stop! They sale the best knife ever made the Barnes. Get over it!
I've never heard anyone in the knife community speak the words "James brand".. the only reason I know this brand is from the massive advertising on the shop app... these knives are way over priced. No thanks!
They are fantastic knives. The function and looks fantastic
James Brand prices are out of control
Love the simple lines which translates to awesome Ness for me .
The click thud is sweet too.
Thanks Mr. Skelton 💀✋️👍🏻
Your so right about the Barnes!!
I own the stainless version and the black + black version. Ordering the one you have next!
Thank you. Glad you’re enjoying yours too
Was surprised the Barnes and Carter were Chinese made.A Damascus Barnes would be tempting. Think I'll grab a rose gold wells for now.
I have the Barnes as well, and it is one of the best knives I own! Thinking about getting the wells!
The detent of a button lock is controlled by the spring under the button. The stiffer the spring the stronger the detent.

Lol
The pocket clip can not move left or right. It fits into two channels. I love my Wells.

It's American made with clean lines and with a regrind to get rid of the billboarding and better blade geometry will make it a great edc.
I love my Wells.

It’s made by Pro-Tech…
It really does smell like it is, but I haven't been able to confirm. Do you have a link where that's said?
Jim....been watchin u alot yrs.
Not knife question.....
Daily watch wear? Go to watch?
$650 is a LOT more than a hundred dollarrs. Maybe people have a problem with it costing more than $500. Possibly.
Pay for a brands name? Never heard of this brand before using the shop app.. give me a break.

The reason nobody in the community has these knives is cause there straight up over priced. U can get this same quality for way less.
