Welcome back to the Foxhole. They're celebrating 10 years anniversary of the first album and also recently released a Gimme Chocolate!! challenge on social media. A week ago they held a live show called Legend MM celebrating MomoMetal 21 birthday and this blaster intro was the opener as usual. This was the first "Babymetal Death" version with MomoMetal as an official member and it was a come back song after December 2017 iirc. They did Babymetal Death Shin Version at Budokan 2021 but it's a way different version. Btw don't miss out the live version at Legend 1997 in 2013, it's even more shocking and impactful with the theatrical performance. Anyway always remember that we are -NotACult- 🦊🤘💀
Thank you, great reaction! I'm 70 now and I had no idea that what I'd been listening to for half a century was a long road leading to Babymetal...my Graal !
Great reaction. This video was released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first album being released - 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on that first album. They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't really use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018. This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as the official new third member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu". The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death". In your own time do yourself a favour and watch the live video for 'BABYMETAL Death' live at Legend 1997 and see how they celebrated Su-metal's 16th birthday in December 2013 (it was the finale rather than the intro that night).
👍For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I present you with BABYMETAL Death.😉 One correction, It is the Fox Sign, not devil horns. OTFGK, but an interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🦊 🦊 🖖 ❤
Great reaction, thanks! You are right, this is madness. I've had the opportunity to experience their European and Japanese crowds going nuts (all with their own idiosyncrasy) and it's just incredible. I'm a (former?) old-school metalhead and I've never experienced something like this before. 🤘🦊
Its theirvtradotionaö opening. They were trained to use stage personas and this song was msde to help the girls to find into character. But they couldn't use this song after Yui left them in 2017. When Momoko became the new third Babymetal they immediatly restarted their Tradition. But those are not Devilhorns but Kitsunes. Their Managercwanted to avoid Devil Horns and after Megitsune their Kitsune Sign changed its meaning. It became in japan the general sign for female empowerment.
This is the way to introduce yourself.👊🏽⚡️ They have been starting shows with this song but in this case it is used to introduce the new member of Babymetal(Momometal). 🦊🤘🏾
Babymetal, is authentic metal music with these girls, women now. Babymetal is like an onion, the main singer in the middle, actually very talented and unusual singing style when you started looking at the details (I need a professional to explain it, I don't have the words to do so myself) and everything around it. The other 2 are dancing and do backing vocals, but also very important for the live performances: they exist to lead the crowd to join them. And then the authentic metal is the third layer, performed by amazing musicians. Babymetal exists to make metal more popular again. And it is working to an extend.
They use the words that are needed: I am Su/ Moa / Momo Metal. We are Babymetal! Together with the heavy instruments it ensuees that they are in character till the release "We are Babymetal" at the end of each show.
Haha, hell yeah, man! And your reaction was by no means mediocre content, I thoroughly enjoyed it! 🤗 *When I first heard this song:* "OMG! This is such a brutally aggressive song, and why is everyone chanting DEATH??!" *Looking at lyrics:* Desu (silent 'u') = "I am / We are". We are! We are! We are! B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L We are! We are! We are! I am Su-metal! We are! We are! We are! I am Moametal! We are! We are! We are! I am Momometal! We are! We are! We are! We are Babymetal! *Me:* "🤔Oh... They're not chanting 'DEATH', they're just introducing themselves, makes sense as their intro track to 1st album and openers to most shows/encores. Good one Babymetal, you got me again... 🤣" For a truly epic headbanging experience, might I suggest *"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!"* from Legend 1997, the Dec 2013's show celebrating lead Su-metal's 16th birthday. The name says it all 😆. 🤘🦊
Great reaction, however, you need to watch babymetal death from the show legend 1997. it was a special show for Su Metal brithday. Now, that one really goes hard. just try it. Welcome to the fox hole
Very cool!!! If you can, check out the version of this song (DEATH!) at the show "Legend 1997", in December 2013. I think you'll like it. Enjoy Babymetal!!!🤘🦊🤘
I would suggest recent performances of Road of Resistance, Monochrome and Megitsune, all from the PIA Arena 2023 concerts which is the same that this performance came from. Babymetal Death is a bit of a tongue and cheek play on a Japanese would Desu (We/Are/I'm) and saying "Death" Do they really mean death, no not really its basically a joke. Some Babymetal fans will take it serious but when BM goes Dark its always for the lore or story, nothing to be taken seriously. It's part of the 'show'.
No. They don't put up devil's horns. They are putting up the Megitsune, which in Japanese means, "Female Fox". You put your thumb and 2 inside fingers together to form the shape of a fox head. You can see a good view at 9:17. The fox is a huge part of the BM lore and then s is what the girls and the crowd is holding up.
They actually called gesture the "Kitsune" and not the "Megitsune". You are absolutely right about the rest though. The "Kitsune" is a great adaptation of Ronny James Dio's horns that became popular in the metal world . I seen a documentary of Dio and he explained that it was never meant to be about the devil but a gesture his grandma did and was used to ward off bad luck by Italians, they call it "Corna". The gesture goes back centuries in other cultures as well . I read that when the girls were young they had problems making the horn gesture and did the "Kitsune" by mistake and it was adopted to be their own thing.

Seeing the crowd is like watching that epic scene from LOTR's when the Urukhai was gathering at Isengard. Breathtakingly epic!
Good, Old Rock, Roll! Gute Reaktion! Hamburg grüßt Litauen, Ben❤😂
Great reaction! I saw them perform this live as an opening song, an absolutely epic way to get the crowd hyped for the show ❤️🦊🤘

Yes, 'BABYMETAL Death!' 🤘
Great reaction🤘🦊♪
BabyMetal doesn't have a "sound" or a "style". They are fearless and will attempt anything, usually successfully
I`ll se them again on the "Rock Im Park" festival in Germany....with a Band wich is my suggestion for a reaction @ "Hanabie - We Love Sweets"
