  • Epoxy Garage Floor, DIY garage floor epoxy, cleaning concrete. I will show you how to coat/paint your garage floor better than a professional service that comes out and tries to complete the job in one day. You will be able to do this at a fraction of the cost and your results will be better than using a contractor.

Hi, awesome video and awesome vibes. I would like to ask you two things.
    A) At what exact timing do you remove the tape. I understand it happens after Step 5 (Clear coat finish). It can be removed easily any day after that?
    B) I want to apply it in an old apartment, which means that I will have to fill a 6cm screed on top of the existing concrete slab, with some sort of cement-composed material. Do you thing that the screed base will be sufficient or cracks might appear after some time?

I removed the blue tape after the clear coat. I would recommend trying to stay off the tape as much as possible as these compounds can penetrate and make the tape difficult to remove. They will not go through the tape, but the tap will become part of the epoxy. In some cases you may just use a razor blade to cut the line where you want to remove the tape.
      B) a 6cm concrete screed May end up with some cracking but most epoxy laid with a heavy mil (50-80) won’t show the crack as it have some flexibility. At least for 10+ years. I would recommend finishing your screed with a broom or something that gives it some bite to take the epoxy better.

Car online is the manufacturer. Would need to find a local rep in your area.

I am a pro installer, this is a great video. Have one suggestion tho "PREP", etching is not enough. You need a MECHANICAL bond (GRINDING) not a CHEMICAL bond (ETCHING).

Yes you are definitely right. Should prep to NACE No. 6/SSPC-SP 13. This was a new garage floor and when they installed I had them drag with a shop broom during curing. So I got the same effect as mechanical grinding.
Most consumers will not attempt to epoxy their own floor with mechanical grinding is involved, so the acid etch is the next best thing even though it is not comparable to grinding.
      Thanks for watching.

@@astropixTX You did your homework and love that, honestly your right the other pro I have spoken with doesn't even understand the difference between a mechanical and chemical bond. That video could be an instructional video for the pros as well, lol. Another key is for you viewers to find a good quality product. Good job

Thanks, luckily I have some good contacts in the coatings industry through my normal job which is pipeline integrity. So I know that surface prep is key as well as a Cadillac coating system!

Turn down your sound levels. The music is much too "foreground" and drowns out your instructions.

Yeah I hear ya. Sounded good on my pC editing software. After the upload to TH-cam the music was way louder. I did notice that last few voice overs were a little better.
Either way, without the instructions you get the picture of what a epoxy floor like this requires. Any questions?

@@astropixTX no questions, it is a very informative video and was immediately "saved" in my "Garage and Shop" folder for later reference. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I'm doing my garage next month, also with an industrial grade product, so gathering up as much info as I can. Is using a notched squeegee essential and if so, what sized notches do you recommend.

    • @astropixTX
      @astropixTX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Don, most of these types of products have a very short pot life and you don’t have much time to apply the epoxy. I recommend a notched squeegee to speed up the application process followed by back rolling with a shed resistant woven paint roller. The Squeegee I used was a 3/16” notch.
Also, when prepping the floor with acid etch and cleaning with water you might want a regular squeegee to speed up the drying process.

Can you share links or let us know what you used? Maybe I missed it but I didn’t see it listed.

Kelsey, these products are from a company called Carboline. I used product numbers 720, 725, and 745. Carboline doesn’t typically sell direct to consumers, but if you Google them you can probably get ahold of a rep in your area who can help you out.
