    Back when I got seriously into recording collecting thanks to a Pennsylvania Disc Jockey friend of mine in the mid 1970's, I subscribed to the tabloid newspaper editions of Goldmine where Mr. Richard Minor had huge ads month after month selling these Rockabilly records for I think it was 3 bucks apiece. I bought a whole bunch of them and if I'm not mistaken he had some Doo Wop 45's as well. Anyway when I found out that he got into trouble for these records I got a little nervous about somebody showing up at my door telling me they wanted them back because they were illegal. I never found out what happened to Mr. Minor but I had those sixty or so records until I got out of the hobby about fifteen years ago. Great videos. Really enjoy them. Nice to see people perpetuate the hobby. Take care.

    Hi there, I have the 2 Junior Parker SUN 45s . I know that they are original pressings as the push marks are VERY clear. Is it right to say that the early SUN 45RPM records are best played with a diamond stylus meant for 78rpm records. I have done this and found that the sound quality is FANTASTIC compared to playing them with a STEREO stylus. I also have the reproes of the 2 records which I take out when I DJ at a RnB and Rockabilly club. Can you confirm that early SUN 45RPM single were cut using the same cutting tool as the 78rpm version.
    Thank you from Phil " Dr Jive " Sharples. ENGLAND.

    Thanks for this video . I'm a collector of 45's here in Australia and like yourself specialize in the genre of 50's honkytonk , rockabilly , 50's rock ballads , and hillbilly . I've always had trouble distinguishing original pressings ( originally issued ) from reissues ( reproductions ) . I'm OK about buying reissues if I'm unable to procure the original . I'm a little concerned , however , that some in my collection that were touted as originals when advertised , possibly could be in fact cleverly crafted reissues . One of my most cherished pieces is one that was offered for sale as a mint original copy of Eddie Cochran's "Teenage Heaven " b/w " I Remember" . It is indeed in mint condition but I'm a little unsure now if it is in fact an original , given it's pristine quality yet has a 64 year history . Still think though that it is the real deal ......

    Hi Mack, thanks for the informative video! Just a quick question if you don't mind. Have you ever heard of original Sun Elvis 45s that have a center hole that is slightly larger than normal? My copy of Baby Let's Play House has push marks, old-style vinyl, grooves that are larger than the standard 1mil groove... I'm quite certain it's original, but either the hole was made larger in the factory, or someone "got rid of" some center hole damage by very neatly enlarging the hole. Any idea? Thanks again.

      Keep in mind that many of the original son early 45s have fairly terrible sound when played with a 45 needle. A 78 stylus sounds better

    • @peterpaszczak4013
      @peterpaszczak4013 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer to use a slightly more used 45 stylus and increase the tracking weight, you have to remember that most modern styli are eliptical rather than conical as they were in the 50's, and back then tracking weight could be as much as 5grams.@@macksebayvideos9532
