    You lost me after you said you'd wait 24 hours to approach the house. You stated civil unrest exists, you're trying to get home to your family and gear. Now you've been missing for 24 hours and your family doesn't know where you are or what happened to you. Civil unrest is escalating and your family is home alone without you. You don't have time to wait 24 hours with increasing fatigue dehydration and hunger. Let alone your family may end up doing something rash and they leave and you have no idea where they went. Sorry just my opinion I'm not an expert but in that situation time is of the essence.

      I guess that's why making a contingency plan ahead of time would be great. I'd tell my family to stay home no matter what and wait it out where we have food and water and heat etc. Last thing I'd want to do is go out and travel if I'm already home when shtf.

      That was one of my first thoughts also. My first thought was getting hijacked? I would've used my firearm to prevent the car jack, hopefully. Then, I'm not waiting 24 hours, i'm wanting, no, needing to get home ASAP.

      Yes, I agree. Also, car jacking? Nope. Doors locked, carry everyday. If shit is getting that bad, u stay close to home base and go out in pairs with a bag on you. Most car jackers won't care if u grab ur bag, especially if you are a woman. They want the car and possibly cash.

    I’m amazed at how many people talk about this type of situation but don’t have a fix a flat in their car and have bald tires on their SUV in the winter. So just make sure you are prepared for the day to day things along with the SHTF situation.

    • @ecospider5

      We are talking about survival here. Being on the side of the freeway is a really good way to die. Do everything you can to not be outside a car on the side of a freeway. Including driving on a flat tire for miles.
      I can change a tire. I chose to value my life. So I connect the slime repair kit and start it. Then step to the protected side of the car away from the road till it is done. Then disconnect it and drive to a parking lot to finish the repair.
      This is the safest way. I really don’t care if the tire repair shop doesn’t like their job.

      No doubt. He should have had enough in his pockets to not need to break into a house in the first place. And why is water such a concern if you’re out running errands? You would be maximum 8 hours walking to your house, unless you live in a big city, commuting 2 hours to work, in which case your best prep would be to consolidate your life a little, and get out of the globalist death trap that is a large city.

  • @michaelheurkens4538
    @michaelheurkens4538 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Good info and thanks. As for using a glass bottle to boil water, hang it above the fire to avoid thermal shock to the glass. With the rocket stove, they become extremely efficient once the flue heats up. Be careful with cinder blocks, though. Build a low fire for a while first to dry them out as you don't know how much residual moisture they hold. Steam pockets in the porous cement can be a hazard and cause the blocks to crack. Alternately, make the flue taller, if possible or move the fire back from the flue and more in the combustion chamber (fire box) to further avoid thermal shock to glass. You need the heat from coals to cook or boil with not so much flame - more heat and less smoke if you maintain a good coal bed even when adding new DRY fuel a bit at a time. Cheers from Alberta, Canada.

    One of my biggest fears living and working in the SF Bay Area is being stuck on the other side of the bay when SHTF. I know I can hike the 30-60 mile distance home for 2-3 days but I need to cross a big body of water. Crossing a bridge like the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge (4.6 mi.) or Hayward-San Mateo Bridge (7 mi.) feels like a death trap. Maybe you can touch on this topic.

      If you have a decent electric scooter or bicycle you could be home in less than 6 hours. Get one with a range of 60 miles (yes - they are available), and keep it charged. Plus, as an extra benefit, a scooter or bike can outrun criminals that want to hurt you, rob you, or steal your scooter/bike. Plus, never vote for a Democrat. They keep you unarmed and helpless against thugs. At the very least you can carry some pepper spray and a good ass-beater billy club for protection.

    Ok, many good tips including the rocket stove. That said, I understood the premise to be a sudden collapse with transport car/truckjacked ~ 30 miles from home. Then it turns into a permanent home thing. So here is what I find 'wrong' and believe me I am no Corporal's Corner, Coalcracker etc.... You get an F! Here's why... 30 miles from home? You KNOW where you are. You know where sources of water are. Getting home should be priority one, not dinking around on property that isnt yours, where you either get caught, or killed. Stupid. Yes, move by night. Yes move inside tree lines. There should be tons of fresh water around you in greenery like that. Better to filter from a stream than get killed McGivering a well dipper.... get your ADHD in check and get home. The point about canabalism; dont under play that.... hungry people will eat anything....Another reason to get home.... I have run Marathons 26 mi.... should be home in 30 hours worst case. Your actual case might be a trucker, whose truck was stolen.... a much better case for your story.... now THAT would make a great topic.

      Unless you are carrying the aspirin for personal medical reasons I would rather carry acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Mobic. Tylenol also serves as an anti pyretic, and Mobic is convenient because its a once daily dose generally. Aspirin lowers your ability to clot by impairing thromboxane a2 synthesis. In a disaster scenario bleeding is bad. Whats worse is not being able to stop bleeding.

    I enjoy most of your videos. However I do not see this being a realistic scenario. Even during civil unrest you would be wise to try and purchase some water, ask for some water, or even Steal some water from a convenience store or somewhere similar. Every person has his or her own goals. But my personal goals as a person who works away from home is to get home as fast as I can.

    If you are sitting on your butt playing recon for 24 hours during the early days after shtf instead of hoofing it towards home, without even knowing if there is anything in there to help you survive, you are doing it wrong. Entertaining to watch, but not exactly practical advice.

    I respect you folks and your skills but wasting 24 hours where a stealthy recon of the area for materials and finding a running water source in such a green environment would surely be a better use of your time and allow you to stay on the move? I would have definitely taken an hour to recce exfiltration routes and used the tree line to approach the building, if possible I'd have waited until dusk to see if any lights came on or after 3am to use darkness to cover my movements at a time when humans are at their least alert plus allowing darkness to cover my withdrawal and then move quickly in daylight and spot any pursuit. Time on target leaves you vulnerable to detection by occupants or other passing foragers like the group who hijacked you in the first place. This is especially true when working alone as you cannot post a lookout/sentry. Bucket pack, wire, materials, some rope, maybe dry tinder if it's wet and back on the trail home. Just an opinion based on experience and training, I mean no disrespect gentlemen.

That said if I did loose my vehicle and get home bag and 30 miles away from my family my focus would be to hoof it to them and scavenge on the move and be to them and my gear within that 24!hrs or less. If I was further away I’d still scavenge on the move .

    Boiling water for one minute will kill all pathogens, but unfortunately it will not remove toxic chemicals.
    So this method is applicable only when you collect the water from a running stream that typically contains a vast amount of water, to make sure that toxins are very diluted and will not harm you in the short-term.

    I look at it this way... Regardless of scenario they give you you're always going to want to think outside the box. Survival mode has been activated and poop has hit the fan. Regardless if you're by yourself or regardless if you're by yourself and your having to get to someone you love or maybe you don't have anyone that you are returning home to... oh perhaps you're leaving your home and you're on the run because there is chaos everywhere and you just cannot stay where you are at at the time... Whatever the scenario put your self in his shoes and think of what things you would do in that situation at that given time. But look at it in all revenues... For instance look for items Jared. what would you look for and how would you do utilize those items but also what is your mental state? What are you thinking about ....what is the scenario at play... and the level of your fear Meter, because let me tell you if your mental state is a little whack and off it's going to affect your actions and your way of thinking. That might help you for the next 24 to 72 hours?
    What is that hand tool you had that you said you are allowed to carry with you?

    *PREPPER PRO TIP: BE the EDC*
    *From the habit of always wearing at least 4 average size pockets on all your pants/shorts because you may need to become a "gray-man" by emptying everything from an EDC into your pockets. Examples: Container (collapsible water bottle), Combustion (lighter), Cutting (multi-tool), Cordage (paracord), Covering (55 gallon 3mil plastic drumliner/lawn bag), Candle-light (headlamp flashlight).*

    @amosmoses8656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Your first priority isn't water, it's planning: where are you, how far is home, how long does it take to get home and how can you create shelter if you need to rest over night. You'll be fine for water for a day or two but you can die from exposure in one night (climate depending). Water is priority 2. Checking the lights is not a great idea. Spending as little time in buildings as possible, never enter a building you don’t know how to get out of. Complete a perimeter search first and plan your exit. Set up your bucket, shelter and fire etc in a concealed outdoor location. You have to keep moving toward you destination, scoping out a building for 24hrs is wasting your precious time and energy. The initial premise is to get home to your family and gear. In an ever escalating collapse situation you are up against an ever escalating situation...24hrs is a long time to be waiting. You demonstrated ideas based on survival in a location where as the primary objective is travel. Use that tyre iron to score the brick first before striking it, strike it with the sharp tip and keep it vertical, this gives higher pressure and less force which equals less noise. Carrying that tyre iron is awkward, heavy and with limited uses, the objective should be to avoid confrontation so retaining it as a weapon is not a priority. A tyre iron is only good for close quarters, if you come across a person close enough to fight you are also close enough to run. If you stay and fight you risk injury, not smart and if you come across anyone with a ranged weapon, you’re screwed anyway. Carrying a tyre iron in this scenario brands you instantly hostile, better to appear passive and catch them off guard when the time is right. Leave the tyre iron, it’s useless. I enjoyed the effort you guys put into this video.
    Edit: typos and PS: if you want to use a glass bottle to boil water, put it in a dish full of sand, it will provide better heat distribution and not as harsh as raw flame. Wrapping it in clay will work also.

    OK, from the outset, when you set up the possible scenario, stating some of the possible parameters, you said you might be possibly injured (perhaps not critically/severely) and the weather could possibly be cold or raining (you didn't mention snowing, but who knows). This opening scenario could negate ALL of your ideas of scouting out the structures and force you to approach and enter in order to JUST SURVIVE. Your ideas are sound ASSUMING everything is pretty much perfect and you have the luxury of surveilling your target for this extended period. All in all, this is an informative video. Should make you think...it does me.

    WOW, I got 3 minutes in, and can’t watch any more.. I had the same thoughts as others.. I was puzzled by the “I got car jacked”, because like others have said, why are your doors unlocked? Why are you not CCW?
    I was also puzzled by the #1 priority is to get home to my gear, and to avoid buildings at all costs… but IF you were injured or if it was extreme weather, a structure could be a good option? Ok (granted)….
    BUT this guy lost me when he said he’d sit and observe the property for 24 hours first? If you’re injured or it’s extreme weather, the entire premise of seeking immediate shelter is negated if you are gonna sit in someone’s yard for 24 hours first…. If you can wait to sit in someone’s yard for 24 hours, wouldn’t you rather just make your way closer to home?
    Also, if someone is staking out my house, I’ll have watches set, and if it’s SHTF, they’re likely to get shot by sitting in my tree line for 24 hours.
    So many things wrong (contradictions) with this entire approach….
    Shaking my head.. I had high hopes when I saw the decent production value of the intro…

    You're injured and its pouring rain. Wait 24 hours? Ever hear of hypothermia? Go sneaking around the perimeter and try to "aquire" tools? You'd be having to deal with a REAL injury if you were in my neck of the woods. Real bad info. Real bad. Come up the driveway with your hands empty. Knock on the front door. Act like you aren't one of the peaceful protesters and you are far more likely to get aid from the owners.

    If you’re in need of shelter you’re not going to have 24hrs to stake out the place. Maybe you can wait till dusk and carefully approach the building but in a storm, rain or snow or whatever you have where you live, you won’t have a lot of time to waste. Priority is shelter in inclement weather. Cool video though. Lots of good ideas.
