Let's take out the all the dams on the Columbia river where these salmon originate from. We have plenty we need to do to help bring back the kings. But this non-profit that put this case into action should be ashamed of themselves to blame the loss of chinook salmon on the Ak trolling fleet.

But he wild fish conservancy are the ones that sued WA state to shut down the hatcheries because the hatcheries were interfering with and wiping out wild fish runs. Hatcheries in WA state are ow only allowed to produce just barely enough fish to keep the run going. On my neighborhood steam, Tokul Creek near Fall city, a good DAY would be around 200 fish caught. That was 25 years ago. Now a good YEAR is 200 fish caught. Hatchery releases have been caught over 75% for steelhead (also a part of killer whale diets). So we have a choice. More hatchery production and more fish for both the fishermen and the whales. Or less hatchery production and fewer fish for both the fishermen and the whales. Seems an easy choice to me.

trollers can only catch about 140 thousand kings a year. its half of what it used to be. if they shut the trollers down it wont help the killer whales...seiners and draggers kill 10 times more king salmon than the trollers. killer whales eat other salmon too. they love eating cohos just as much as king salmon. the main king salmon opening only lasts about a week. the sport charter fleet keeps growing every year. they are allowed to keep kings all summer. they can catch more kings than most trollers now days. killer whales are over populated now days. killer whales were rare to see when i was a kid. now i see them almost everyday in the summer season. 48 years commercial fishing in southeast alaska.
Why don’t you talk about what happens in the Puget Sound with all the ferry’s the giant commercial cruise ships that come through here all the giant barges the digging out of Elliot Bay all the toxins the lead that is washed off of these barges what about the ferries all the oil,break dust,rubber ect… that they spray off daily into the water But you wanna blame the fisherman in the boat come on it’s like the idiots that believe that the orcas only eat one type of fish I have videos of them eating seals harbor seals all different types of salmon. I thought most Native People had a cultural tradition of cherishing nature, but I guess the members of this tribes don't care about nature or the whales. This tells me that these Native Americans are no different than the White man who hunted the Buffalo to near extinction. Sharing just among yourselves is not enough and this tribe needs to share with all of nature. This may mean some people may need to inovate and find other means of livelihood. Like the piece suggest, if there's not enough fish for the whales, there soon won't be enough fish for the tribe.
