Thank you for this clear explanation. I’m curious about the idiom “East doesn’t hit west”. Maybe you could explain the imagery more. I think the passive structure was already clear after two examples.

Hmm I am not quite sure what you mean by "east doesn’t hit west," the closest I could think of is 東家唔打打西家 (dung1 gaa1 m4 daa2 daa2 sai1 gaa1), which is used to express someone's indifference for one job and because keoi5 can easily find another job. Does that sound similar to you?

it's more like, literally, "one who does not work for the east can always work for the west". A comma makes things more clear IMO: 東家唔打,打西家

Curious what your opinion is on the character choice for 俾 as passive voice. Obviously you use the other character, but is there actually any legitimate claim for it otherwise, or can it simply be considered an alternate character?

And all this time when my father was alive, I thought he was saying 炒油魚 and that flew over my head.

我很好奇爲什麽你們用繁體字教中文?你自己説的你在臺山出生的,並也教國語。在紐約你們的客戶要求你教他們繁體還是簡體?我估計你用繁體字教廣東話但簡體字教普通話?btw your channel and brittany's channel are great

      對,這裏的華人一般都用繁體。所以一般教普通話會用簡體,教廣東話會用粵語,比較好區分。Also thanks for the encouragement!
