WISE FLYBOY FL-03...Not What I Expected

- I was keen to get hands on with this watch when I first saw the renders on the website, however after receiving the watch in the hand, I had mixed feelings about it.
Not that the watch isn't finished to standard, but I was expecting something else...I share my thoughts

I love that Wise are willing to follow their own path with design, all of their watches sre impressive and distinctive

I like the look and the quality of this watch. The handsets are nicely looking aviation type, look like a bomb, but are large enough to be seen easily which is a good thing. the only gripe from my side is that pusher that changes the month, which only needs to happen every 30 days. I think that pusher is too easy to access that will be pushed accidentally pretty frequently. The presence of the watch on the wrist is phenomenal

Nice looking watch, nice to see some original design in a pilots watch! I want one- But just got a new watch and will have to wait until next year- or wife will kill me. LOL
I bought mine on April 30 just days before your review but I'm still looking forward to it. With a $50 gift from Wise, it only cost me $660 delivered to my front door here in California.

Just received their new GMT , and it doesn't disappoint, i like it alot more than I thought and wears better than I thought.

The bit that got me the most is was the little sticker saying Warning we left the screws loose so you can adjust the bracelet , so many other watches where I damaged the bracelet trying to loosen the screws to adjust it. And Using X as Roman 10 I found interesting. These little things on top of the fabulously crafted watch. Seems to have a ball bearing click bezel but yet to confirm as its not a click spring
Not something I would choose, but I do like the color of the dia. I don't really see the issue with the "undersized" Arabic numerals. I have more of an issue with the top pusher. To each their own, I guess. Overall, a nice looking piece.
I agree that the numbers could be a bit bigger but I also like how nicely they fit around the date window at the 6 o clock. So give and take where that is concerned I guess. I like the design and spacing however it would be too big for me to wear with that lug to lug on my wrist. Not a watch I will personally be adding to my collection but a great watch to cover and a neat design, I like the date setup for it being a modern day pilots watch as it lets you keep track of the calendar date of your home time or home terminal ect while traveling through different timezones or even across the world dateline if you travel internationally.

Beautiful finishing as usual from them. I do like that shark strap, very nice. I'm not real big on a "multifunction" watch though. Wouldve preferred a chronograph instead. As always Pete, great video!

What a beautiful design, but squandered on a calendar complication. This would make a sensational chrono, with a Seiko movement for under $400. Ah well. Wise designs really are cracking though, hats off to them.
Agreed it would look good as a chronograph. Not sure about Seiko quartz though with the useless 24hr sub dial.
Thank you for reviewing a brand new to me. The watch looks very nice and I like the military style font for the numbers, albeit, agreed, a little small. Beautiful lume. I am not a fan of months on my watch. A date ok, day maybe, but month? I know what month it is…. As a woman with a 16cm wrist extras on a watch make it bigger and harder to wear. All the nice watches are men’s….. Women’s watches are generally dull, boring, small and quartz. If I go for this sort of watch I’d take a chronograph instead to make better use of the space. Great video!

If it were a bit smaller, say 40mm with 47mm L2L I’d be all over this watch.
The Arabic’s remind me of my Formex field (which I love).
Design-Wise I could do without that side badge. OtherWise, the watch is beautiful.
A very nice triple date for that price
What is great about it is that it is still a watch that clearly follows its own path. Whether chrono or pilot's watch, neither genre is necessarily what I'd gp for, so I didnt give the Flyboy much of my attention. One of the yhings that I did notice is that in daylight shots it looks a bit dim. The matte of the diak looks great. The shape and polished pops of all hands, too. But indeed, it comes down to those numerals. When I look at the Thai version, I understand the sizing a bit better. I think some take up a bit more space, but that cpuld just be the way I look at them. However, in daylight they dont habe sufficient visual weight. They could be bigger, and perhaps they should be brighter (thus bolder). I am not a find of the badge either. I don't know what it's doing there. The sizing seems to work well on your wrists but objectively it's just a little over. Finally I'm not sure if the fonts of the additional on dial printing work well with rhe font of the numerals. I do quite like the crown guard integration of the case. So, yes, it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I already considered this one of those into this genre of watch and not for me. The price seems very much in line with their other more premium watches, so I find it hard to complain. If they were fine where they were, then so is this. That said, as other brands have been stepping up in refinement in design and finishing with similar movements, it is true that Wise starts looking like a bit more premium than many. I am thinking for example of all the praise that Henry Archer reaps, and seemingly very justified, but also generslly more affordable. Very different styles, but Wise is certainly not pushing to be the budget option, nor do they need to, to be honest.
I don't own a Wise yet, but this may be my first. Not sure I agree with any of your criticisms with the exception of pricing....This seems to be a $479 watch, not $700+
When you get one of their watches, you'll know where that money went, build quality is Longines/tudor level--- I'm really impressed with my Wise Hitman watch.
I’ve been wanting to see a pilot watch from Wise for years. Now that they finally do it, it’s effed up with messy sub-dials and pushers. Oh well, it’s still impressive.
I love the dail layout, I think the (shape) and height of the pusher along with the name plate scream chronograph, and not the annual calendar I think it's supposed to be, giving it an identity crisis. I think if they refine those small things, they've got a really attractive watch ! ❤
Just watching the video, even before you revealed your gripes, I'd formed the same exact impressions of why the watch is not for me. But I'm looking forward to seeing what's next from Wise!
Hmmm. A quite beautiful design, I especially like the sandwich dial and leather straps. However, a regular chronograph would be far more suitable for this design.
Slightly larger numerals , slightly smaller watch in crono format with some brushed surfaces and I’m in.

Impressive delivery for the money. Shorter lug to lug would be appreciated, but not a deal breaker. Everything else looks fantastic.

I think the watch looks attractive overall, but that month subdial feels out of place, and a dedicated pusher for it makes it all the odder. A second time zone subdial on a pilot's watch would have made more sense.
After learning it wasnt a chrono, I was wondering what the second pusher was for. Would have looked better not doing the badge. A really nice looking watch otherwise. Great presentation as always! Cheers
Even if they are not in keeping with a traditional pilots watch that we are used to in the west I like the size of the numerals on this watch. Design wise I feel they work well. Would have preferred a quartz chronographs rather calendar dials and it’s quite expensive. Nice watch.

Bought a true GMT from Wise. This was October last year, to be delivered in March. We’re in May and I am still waiting. Their watches seem fine, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to buy anything from them again.
Yeah production is slow across the board with many companies lately
I just received delivery of the GMT and its superb so far (one week on the wrist at this stage)

That is a Beautiful watch!!! But I agree with you on the size of the "Arabics". A little more contrast would have helped, but then the lume wouldn't be so brilliant. Great Review! 👍
Agreed, Peter. A Straightforward pilots watch with bolder handset and numerals would be better. Ditch the sundials..
Good points raised here - and here's another one (my opinion). The lug width is too narrow. It should be 22mm rather than 20mm on a watch this size and with a lug length of 49.7mm. The strap looks too narrow and therefore the watch as a whole looks unbalanced .I could never bond with a watch that has this issue unless it's put on a Bund strap. Pity because aside from that and the fact that the arabics are a ilttle on the small size, the piece looks amazing.
Doesn't it look weird with that date on the inside of the 6 o'clock? Most brands would remove the 6 o'clock to avoid collision.
Mate I'm not sure whether I agree with you there. If the numerals were largely they would clash with the subdials. Mutilated numerals to make room for subdials are a pet peeve of mine.
I hear you Alex..its just that the numerals are too dull and low in contrast
Maybe a tad thicker rather than physically larger could possibly work?..

But, it’s not a chrono movement…
Flyboy visual cues with the ‘2’ pushers could also be a GMT if sub dial numerals showed 24hr military , but dat, date, month complication is misleading and useless.
PK reality photography shows the crystal as milky, and while the numerals are visually acceptable, too small for a Flyboy.
Opportunity missed, swap out movement for production.

I'm very fond of Wise as a brand but this one is a miss in my opinion. The month pusher concept is just bizarre and feels out of context on a pilot themed watch.

I hate chrono style calendar watches with a passion. I love a real chrono, but I feel these are a con. I hate calendar pushers too. It's only a day date, why has it got buttons? Aaaaaarrggh!

I like WISE products... but their logo and branding is attrocious IMO. Really off putting.
Wise make very nice watches, however, I can't get past the names they choose to call them. This one is called ''Flyboy'' which could be taken as a derogatory name for a pilot. Another of trheir watches is called ''Hitman'' , if you wear one does that make you a Mobster killer? So Wise should wise up and get some better names for their watches.
And all the girlies say i’m pretty fly for a white guy 😂

I think they made a marketing mistake with the name "Flyboy" Sounds childish, immature. They should remove that word from the dial.
