WLED how to use segments

  • Using the back of my house as an example we will go through all the stuff that segments can do with your lights.
    Segments are easier when you know the numerical order of your lights. Knowing where your first LED is and the path they follow to the last LED will help when setting up segments. It's easy if you are only using one controller output, but if using more than one it can get a little confusing. I usually use an effect like candy cane to see what direction my lights are flowing then make adjustments in the LED Preferences section to get them all moving in one direction, which usually consists of reverse rotating(180deg) on one output until they flow in one direction. Check my site if you're interested in these kits. Thanks

      No problem, most our customers use them year round with some sort of segmented white lighting.

      If you set the spacing to 0 it won’t leave empty pixels between transitions giving it a more seamless look. I believe. I’m only a week into my wled learnings.

I was having issues when flashing with Esp home flasher loosing settings/presets/segments constantly. File system was to small, using the web installer stopped that from happening.

    i under Stand the settings for the count of the LEDs, but what is the part about it? Where it says SK6812 RGBW where does that setting need to be? I understand the LEDs are RGB. I'm assuming that's for different model numbers where do I find that in the package. We didn't talk about that setting. I'm not sure if that's important.

    Thank you this made segmenting understandable and approachable now. I have a request since you brought up the idea of the lights being used for architectural accent. Could you help me with only designating certain LED lights to be on like for instance: I only want the corners of the roof each with two or three LEDs on at each of my roof's corners and then in the center of each section of the house two or three LED's on and then two or three LEDs on at the very top of the peak of my roof above the garage. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I do know the number of LED at each section of my roof.

      Hey, If you want to set it up like that you just need to find out where your lights start, then count your lights. for example if one of the lights you want to come on is led #50 then create a segment and make the start led 49 and stop led 50. Maybe watch this video to help explain. th-cam.com/video/thORdpkEDPE/w-d-xo.html

    Very good explanation. Thanks for your time.
    I have a different scenario. I have 2 ESP32 modules in sync running 2 separate led strips. Is there a way to set the second module as a segment of the first? I could then activate effects which start on the first led strip and end at the second one. Right now simple sync only activates the same effect on both modules which is not my desired behavior.

    • @showhomelighting5840
      @showhomelighting5840  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry I don't believe there is a way to make the second module a segment of the other module, the sync function will only do just that, sync the same effect as the master.

    is there any chance to create just one segment from led 145 - 180 & 0 - 36 ? Its my screen, start & end is in middle . The effects also differ from the 70 leds segment (length) & the two segments.

    • @showhomelighting5840
      @showhomelighting5840  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya you can start and end at any point, but would need to do the 145-180 in one segment and the 0-36 in another.

    • @showhomelighting5840
      @showhomelighting5840  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a Digi quad you would probably need to set up each output as it's own segment, which you can do in the LED settings.

    Is there any way to make 3 different controllers with 3 different strips flow seamlessly like one strip? As if the pattern would continue across all strips eg. 60+20+300 lights act as one 380 light strip.

    I have a 6812 (12v) tape, but the segment does not work on it. What is the reason for this?
    the second question is: why do you have 2 tapes specified in LED Preferences in LED Outputs?

    • @showhomelighting5840
      @showhomelighting5840  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not all tapes are the same, depends how many LEDs per node on the tape. Mine have 3 leds per node, so I can segemtb out groups of 3 LEDs or control every three leds separately. Cheaper string might not have that option. And I have two leds outputs set up because my controller has two outputs. Thanks!
