I love how someone walks by at 1:24 Imagine walking by a doorwindow and seeing sonic youth playing the sprawl haha
LMAO
The fact that this is from 1988 still is mind boggling. They were so far ahead of the curve.
Seriously. Imagine hearing all of the hair metal and synth pop of the time and then hearing this, so far ahead of its time.
@dreamtree1510 or better yet think about the fact that full house is what people were watching, not to diss on that show
They were never ahead of or behind the curve: they existed completely outside of it. There’s no one like them
Sonic Youth created the curve
This performance is magical and timeless, completely free from all worldly feelings and ego, it surely looks like it.
I'm rediscovering them after years of not listening to them and after everything I've been through these years the music is sounding much more meaningful and powerful I can't even explain it and the term Daydream Nation makes so much sense.
All love

One of the best songs ever, album is top 100 of all music anywhere anytime
Daydream nation man.... what an LP. this is the definitive version of sprawl.... just unbelievable. Those two fenders turned up to max.
I got this album really fresh- it was still in the box at Tower on Broadway.
Such incredibly powerful outro. By far their best performance of this song. The fact that Steve Shelly was wiping the tears from his eyes by the end says it all ❤️
quite possibly the greatest song ever
Love your pfp, great taste in music
@@owlofathena1247 right back at you- your playlists look sick
God damn I say that in every song I'm hearing from the band.
Melhor música do Sonic Youth
kotton krown, JC and this one, are my favourites
At 6:10 when the guitars completely break from each other I feel like I’m in a trance, and Mark Ibold’s and Thurston’s facial expressions during it tell me that they are completely enveloped in their song and I love it
I love the sound of those Jazzmasters. They're just amazing guitars.
I think they are jaguars
@@kobs7863 nah, they're Jazzmasters
Jazzmaters
Perhaps the best song on Daydream Nation, which is saying something. Prog-post-punk!
Or Rock jazz (not jazz rock)
I'd say SY were the first to stumble upon post-rock, around the same time Talk Talk did in the late 80's. The end of this track sounds a lot like Godspeed You Black Emperor
yeah it's either this or cross the breeze for me
Hey Joni, Kissability, Cross the Breeze and this one are all fantastic songs.
I am so grateful to Nigel and the from the basement crew to be posting all these concerts. Absolutely the best quality
Sonic Youth has this perfect set from the basement and Radiohead has a perfect set from the basement.
Maybe the damp air of the basement produces perfect sound quality?
As much as I Love this song…it doesn’t compare to how much they LOVE playing it
Wow when Lee joined in with the main riff I got chills... love you SY
I'm crying this is beautiful.
And Shelley too 9:05
Steve was really the glue for the band. Once he came, everyone knew that they were able to refine their noise into pop structures.
Who's Steve?
@@capt_beefheart4159 Steve Shelley, the drummer
@@DustyLinks thanks. Who's the second bass player?
@@capt_beefheart4159 Mark Ibold. He's also a member of Pavement.
couldn't agree more, ridiculously good drummer and percussionist
that outro was brilliant, kim's bass make it even mesmerizing
This episode of FTB was my first exposure to SY. I remember randomly catching this on Sky Arts (UK) when I was a kid, however many years ago this recording was. Instantly knew I was never going to like a band more in my entire life.
Remember listening to this in my "barely a studio" in '89. Daydream Nation helped me survive those early adult years.
SY is the best thing ever.
Yep
crazy how talented they were, still are but just unmatched when they’re together
The groove on this song hits me right in the feels.
Steve is just having a blast back there!
Hearing the end of the Sprawl played that slowly was just incredible. So grateful this was captured and shared for us to all enjoy.
i get shivers down my spine at how immersive and powerful this performance is, so damn good.
It's so sad that they're not together anymore, they were doing some great great music, I absolutely love their latest albums. Aging like fine wine unlike so many other bands... I really miss SY being active.
01:56 - the best * fuck you! * in musical history.
Always nice to be reminded why this is my favorite band I’ve ever heard
I love you Sonic Youth
Mi cancion favorita, que mal que ya no exista la banda
the outro of this song was outrageous, quite brilliant.
Una de las mejores bandas sin duda puro Arte
It is a crime to get an ad in the middle of this song! Also, other bass player looks like Paul Dano to me.
Thanks to these SY uploads, I'm gonna go back to listening to their albums soon. It's been too long.
This song blows my mind
This shit is so good
Brilliant! Saw you guys open for Iggy Pop Reading Music Festival 1990. I was back stage with J. Mascis, my friend from W. Mass. You we're brilliant!
Best version. Brilliant.
Sonic Youth, I love it - never together!
4:22 awesome comeback
wow. beautiful
This is awesome 😎
it's so f'n good
I’ve never seen a band so in sync, after all those years too
que feliz me hace Sonic Youth
The best. 🖤
such a under rated band this song takes u on a journey
Esta banda nunca envejeceeee
tuve el placer de verlos en vivo en uno de sus ultimas presentaciones
Love this!!!!!!
that slowcore outro is magic
slowcore… idk
legend!!
Oh perfect
La cosa mas linda!
incredibly faint skype noise at 4:26 LMAOOOOO
I thought that was Lee’s handing sliding up on the fret board making that sound
Merci.
¡¡¡qué buen video!!!
EPIC
How did they do that
Amazing
Thurston still looks 22....
Thurstons' tone. My word... Anyone have an idea? His Rat perhaps?
TurboRAT + a fender deville amp. Use some 012 Gauge strings, and you should get close that to sound .
Top.
WOW
I didn't know Mark Ibold was playing with them at this time.
Guys. Thanks so much I love you all
Make a joyous noise...
🤘
Omg
Just realised this is posted in stereo
