    4:17 Treatment of Peritonitis
    Peritonitis is inflammation of the peritoneum, the lining of the inner wall of the abdomen and cover of the abdominal organs.[2] Symptoms may include severe pain, swelling of the abdomen, fever, or weight loss.[2][3] One part or the entire abdomen may be tender.[1] Complications may include shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome.[4][5]
    Causes include perforation of the intestinal tract, pancreatitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, stomach ulcer, cirrhosis, or a ruptured appendix.[3] Risk factors include ascites and peritoneal dialysis.[4] Diagnosis is generally based on examination, blood tests, and medical imaging.[6]
    Treatment often includes antibiotics, intravenous fluids, pain medication, and surgery.[3][4] Other measures may include a nasogastric tube or blood transfusion.[4] Without treatment death may occur within a few days.[4] Approximately 7.5% of people have appendicitis at some point in time.[1] About 20% of people with cirrhosis who are hospitalized have peritonitis.[1]

    Peritonitis from pd dialysis is the top most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. Now whenever I get a sore stomach I panic and think it’s peritonitis. I want to catch it before it gets so painful that I can’t even think straight. First time I thought I was constipated I was in so much pain sitting on the toilet slipping in and out of consciousness. Had no idea how serious it was. I was blacking out trying to hook up my machine and this is when I first started learning the machine so I was struggling to read the instructions and do it right I was about to just say screw it and go without dialysis. I somehow managed tho. Idk how but I did.

    Worst pain ever! I have a high tolerance for pain, but I was screaming in my Dr's office when he was trying to examine my abdomen. He immediately admitted me to the hospital. I had a shunt infection. I had surgery in January that year. My doctor that did my surgery said there was nothing wrong, so the next time that year that my shunt failed again, my mom told the ER to take me to another hospital. Long story short my shunt failed 2 more times and I developed Meningitis. I had to be in ICU for almost a month with a drain in my head to drain the excess CSF because the surgeon had to remove all my shunts. When the infection cleared, I had another surgery. They saved my life!

    So a ruptured appendicitis can lead to peritonitis? Right?

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a ruptured appendix can lead to peritonitis.Peritonitis, an inflammation of the peritoneum, can indeed be caused by a ruptured appendix. This serious condition arises when bacteria or fungi from a ruptured appendix spread into the abdominal cavity, leading to infection and inflammation. Individuals with peritonitis often experience severe abdominal pain, tenderness, bloating, fever, nausea, and vomiting. To diagnose peritonitis, healthcare professionals rely on a combination of medical history, physical examination, blood tests to detect infection, and imaging tests such as X-rays or CT scans to pinpoint the infection's source. Treatment typically involves administering antibiotics to combat the infection and surgical intervention to remove the infected tissue. Specifically, in cases of a ruptured appendix, an appendectomy is performed to remove the appendix, thereby addressing the root cause of the infection.
