About the internal Rate of Return solving... What I usually do is by doing this : Set NPV = 0 0 = Cash Out - Cash IN Cash-out = Cash IN Then Solve for r... using a scientific Calculator In Excel, by your method, there is a function (under DATA ribbon, don't remember where) that will put a random number which will automatically CONVERGE to the solution
The fact that the opportunity cost is zero means your time has no value, at least at those 30 mins spent watching the video. In order of something to be worthy it is not necessary of the opportunity cost being equal to zero. What that means is you can gain additional value (salary increase, start business, etc) by the info you got from watching the video and that value is greater than the opportunity cost.
Sending love from Australia! I’m currently completing my MBA and have been struggling with these concepts; this is by far the clearest explanation of Capital Budgeting I’ve found. You did such an amazing job at explaining all the interrelationships, formula and even your laying out of your spread sheet was inspiring (it’s made keeping my sheet very tidy!). Thanks a lot. Everyone, subscribe and like this video - it’s arguable perfect!
I've watched a lot of videos on IRR and NPV and when it comes to IRR I come away not fully understanding how to interpret it because the definition varies. This is the first video I've watched where I can say I get it. Nice job.

This video makes it easy to understand capital budgeting. However, in the example 2 for the discounted rate of 15%, the NPV is still positive and not negative; NPV = Present Value of all cash outflow - Present value of all cash in flow; and not the other way round that you put it to check the negative value. The concept made me know better how to remember whether a project should be accepted or not. So, thank you for sharing your knowledge.

90% of Startups fail due to Founder’s lack of Financial Intelligence. Moreover, they don’t know what they don’t know. So they end up blaming the market conditions or lack of funding for their failure. Videos like these provide fundamental core knowledge which every founder / CEO must have before they kick start a new venture. Thank you for creating financial education videos. I agree. Most of the startups are money burning machines. Rather they should focus on a solid business model that generates money and contributes to the economy. Financial acumen is a must for entrepreneurs.

It definitely takes skill to be able to teach things in a lesser time frame and still make sense to such a broad audience. I thank you for your generous efforts, really helped, you are really good!
Wow this is fabulous you connected my managerial economics with finance by connecting opportunity cost with discount rate .... Rest was a cakewalk for me ..... Thanks for simplifying my project capital budgeting tasks I wish you all success in life 💐

Thank you very much for this video, really helpful and very easy to understand. I am a civil engineer and started my MBA with zero background in financing and capital budgeting .. this 30 minutes video is worth 6 hours of lecture
Thank you for such a great explanation! It was easy to understand and I just realized that we only need the same formula to calculate NPV to IRR..... That's incredible ✨✨🙏
Thanks a lot! Your video is immensely helpful! It's easy to comprehend, well-presented, and there are files included, so I don't have to screenshot every time haha. I understand it better here than with my professor. New subscriber here!
Thanks for the gesture, but I seriously dont know how to claim it, but anyway I checked it now and have replied to you, also typing your problem and solution here for others to learn: Hi Sharma, Your Question: A project cost Rs.5,00,000 and yields annually a profit of Rs.80,000 after depreciation at 12% p.a but before tax 50%. Calculate the payback period. Give the merits and limitations of pay back method. pmtycoon Solution: For this you need to find out the payback period, what we know is cost which is outflow: 500000 We need to know the Cash inflow: But we have given certain conditions like depreciation and tax Let’s tackle depreciation first: (Remember depreciation happens on your investment). Depreciation per year is 12%. Cash investment of 500000 So yearly depreciation is 500,000*12% = 60,000 Remember the trick here is in their wording, they are saying the profit of 80,000 is after depreciation. (which means they have already removed the depreciation value from the profits and now the profit after depreciation is 80,000 ). But in the problem they are saying that the profit is before tax. So, we need to pay tax to the govt. (the tax is 50%), (50% seriously???) so 50% tax on 80,000 is 40,000 so yearly profit after tax (PAT) is 40,000 But the cash inflow is not just 40,000, we are also getting the depreciation value of 60,000 per year in the form of depreciation. so total cash inflow is going to be : PAT + Depreciation = 40000 + 60000 = 100000 now we know the cash inflow is 100,000 per year. We know the initial investment was 500,000 so the pay back period is 500,000/100,000 = 5 years. Payback period is 5 years for this problem. if you liked this, please do share the channel videos with your college friends, it helps the channel, thanks in advance. Other ask is: Give the merits and limitations of Payback period. Merits: Simple to compute, just need to get the break even point. Limitations: Does not take, discount rate in to consideration (meaning, does not take time value of money) in to account.

Thankyou
Thanks for the gesture, but I seriously dont know how to claim it, but anyway I checked it now and have replied to you, also typing your problem and solution here for others to learn:
Hi Sharma,
Your Question:
A project cost Rs.5,00,000 and yields annually a profit of Rs.80,000 after depreciation at 12% p.a but before tax 50%. Calculate the payback period. Give the merits and limitations of pay back method.
pmtycoon Solution:
For this you need to find out the payback period, what we know is cost which is outflow: 500000
We need to know the Cash inflow:
But we have given certain conditions like depreciation and tax
Let’s tackle depreciation first: (Remember depreciation happens on your investment).
Depreciation per year is 12%.
Cash investment of 500000
So yearly depreciation is 500,000*12% = 60,000
Remember the trick here is in their wording, they are saying the profit of 80,000 is after depreciation. (which means they have already removed the depreciation value from the profits and now the profit after depreciation is 80,000 ).
But in the problem they are saying that the profit is before tax. So, we need to pay tax to the govt. (the tax is 50%), (50% seriously???)
so 50% tax on 80,000 is 40,000
so yearly profit after tax (PAT) is 40,000
But the cash inflow is not just 40,000, we are also getting the depreciation value of 60,000 per year in the form of depreciation.
so total cash inflow is going to be : PAT + Depreciation = 40000 + 60000 = 100000
now we know the cash inflow is 100,000 per year.
We know the initial investment was 500,000
so the pay back period is 500,000/100,000 = 5 years.

Thank you for making such videos. After searching so many videos on capital budgeting, finally found a video which cleared my concept regarding capital budgeting. Now I can crack the questions on capital budgeting.
Great, all the best
Loved this video. This is the simplest way to explain capital budgeting.
Thanks Rocky.
AMAZING my MBA program could NOT explain this clearly
I'm a medical student and I'm doing MS in health care management... one of our subject is finance...
And I'm very confused about solving problems...this video of yours helped me alot and I got some basic concepts thanks...
But I'm little bit confused on profitability index formula as we have learned in class is somehow different...
Great 👍 try and solve the same problem in these two approaches. If they give the same result, stick to the one that is easier, if different then let me know your process for me to understand and explain why that is different
@@pmtycoon Ok sure...thanks
