GS fanboy here, been on them since 2005. I’m 74 now so I’m happy sticking with my 2010 with nearly 100,000 trouble free miles. If I was 20 years younger I’d buy one in a second.
I love the old asymmetric headlights of the past but I guess it’s time for a change.

This was an awesome video. There’s nothing I like better than hearing people’s thoughts about a new bike! Also,Mr Bob’s editing is fantastic. Whatever is being talked about in the video shows up on screen. Even if it’s just a passing reference to some other bike. As motorcycle enthusiasts, that’s like giving candy to a baby! It gives the entire video more body and keeps our eyes glued to the screen. I’m sure putting in all that extra stuff takes a lot of time and effort, but it definitely elevates the experience. Also liked learning that new word! So thanks, Motobob!

Which is why it was such a good travel machine. This one does not compete with The Multi Strada but gives up the GS appeal in my opinion. It also does nothing to improve its off-road capabilities hence the 19" front wheel. Just seems like the were trying to compete with Ducati and failed.@@pippipster6767

The only real complaint I have right now is the front and rear radar system. I wonder how much cost could be eliminated if this was made an option rather than standard. I don’t feel like I need it at all.

BTW dont fall for the radar cruise hype.... I had a 2021 Super ADV before my '23 Rallye, I tried the radar and promptly turned it off. Im not riding in between traffic locked to whatever is in front. Speed check on a slow car in front? Use your eyes, stay awake on the bike, radar is a gimmick I fell for once and will never again. Probably the reason I'm still riding is because my head is on a swivel, I look everywhere around me and I dont stay in traffic, I get clear. Radar? Nope.

First off I’m a GS fan…. But I think the Africa Twin is a much better looking bike…
I think the GS has somehow lost its rugged looks with the latest version… if I was a GS diehard I would definitely be looking at a last off the line GS1250…. And also getting a ton of discount

Great job Bob. For my money I will take the 900GS. The 1300 is mostly purchased by tourers who ride the black track to some nice gravel roads. Touring on gravel. So here in OZ it's a tourer that can take you on gravel. Better economy on the 900 and soooooo much cheaper for just as wonderful an experience.

Great video Bob. Thank you. As a rider/ex racer with over 40 years of riding bikes have always been behind cars when it comes to technology. For me this was always a good thing as looking back to the late 80’s and 90’s people were frowned upon for riding a bike with ABS. These days the gap is closing and all I can say now is it’s better to have the technology even if you don’t ever use it.

  • @gryphongryph
    @gryphongryph 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Does not look like a GS, that’s for sure, looks like a Honda, KTM and Suzuki, only original thing they have made are the headlights which look terrible, you will notice them for sure, but I am not sure I would want to be the driver behind those lights 😂😂😂 When slimming a concept down, it probably is not easy to be that original in this segment but here I think BMW have shot themselves in the foot.
Very few of the GS’s were used for off road, they were mainly a touring machine for older riders, don’t see that demographic buy a lot of these, but maybe they will get younger buyers to become interested and more off road enthusiasts?
These are only my opinions, so don’t shoot me 😜

I like it ........... but how much is it actually lighter? If the weight is taken from stripped down base modal then you need to add back .....main stand, extra litre of fuel, rear rack, bigger screen, and thicker pillion seat. As for price, I think its good as you can get similar spec to old bike for same money.

My main gripe about this bike is that to get the tech I want-- Dynamic Suspension, Adaptive Height, Sport Suspension, Ride Modes Pro, Sport Brake-- BMW forces me to also get the Ride Assist, including the big ugly black bump on the front that ruins the look. In addition to the highly annoying lane assist, it introduces the potentially dangerous active braking. Guaranteed I'd have to turn all this off manually every ride, and that's a no-go for me, period.

Very nice video but because you are waiting for comments, here you are: its husquarna norden 1:43 (not nodren) and at 7:00 you are only talking about the two seat hights and not about the longer springs. As far as I know you can't have the automatic lowering with the sports suspension! I would have loved that.

Liked hearing that the GS gas tank is aluminium. So sad that my first year R1200GS LC '13 has a (warped top) plastic tank that gives a whiff of gas when you really fill it and would hate to use the clip on tank bags secured by metal inserts in plastic.

The headlight, and the adaptive ride height are both huge to me. The current GS is just TOO tall for me. So this could be a way to get me back to the BMW line. I love the motor. One thing I have not seen is the leg length to the pegs. The R1200 was 3-4 inches too high. Caused knee cramps for me. My Tiger is nice and low, and allows for good standing position.

Honestly it looks really good. Its nothing new that whenever a radical change happens in an existing product, there are bound to be pushbacks, but these generally dies down in sometime. People hate change.
It looks much sharper, and leaner than before.
Yes the old one looked more mean and butch but this too still feels more butch compared to at least tiger 1200.
Also I feel if and when they launch the GSA with 29/30L fuel tank, it will regain its butch appearance to a great extent.

I think that most people like the new tech but the most vocal are those who don't and they still end up buying top spec tech bikes anyway , if you don't care about tech you have so many options of used affordable bikes no need to buy new in that case. Personally i prefer to have every assist that i can have and adjust my driving with it , a lot of people can brake better without ABS for example but in the crucial moment that you have milliseconds to react that's a whole different story and we all know great motorcyclists who are not longer alive due to that crucial moment.

Personally I also prefer the Africa Twin and Norden for looks. Plus the Desert X - although haven't considered that personally. The new KTMs look awesome too. This BMW, like the last, is just a bit 'meh' in my opinion. It's functional, not really ugly but nothing really seems cohesive on these big BMs and hasn't for years. They look like a definate case of form following function. Not a bad strategy at all but both in equal measure would be better and that's what the other brands do. Heck, even the HD Pan America at least looks stylish, although a bit marmite. Come on BMW, add some design flair. It's been a while. Best thing about the design - the decal as on the green version...looks like a throwbak to the K1 which is, in my opinion, still an absolute stunner looks wise.
Just got to the Honda NC750 comment - spot on. There are a few bikes that look good on paper and not in the flesh - these models do fall into that catergory.

Looks is of course a matter of personal preference. I like the new looks (despite obvious NC750X similarities) but indeed prefer the old headlights. What I find interesting and surprising are the comments missing the tube frame. BMW is finally modernizing the frame of this great motorcycle. Ducati and others have done the same. There are very good reasons for that... Let's evolve folks! The lack of Apple Carplay and Android Auto is inexcusable. Come on, BMW!

I have the Pan Am, I don't use all of the 150hp, that is just ridiculous on road, and fun :)

Africa Twin Adventure Sports in Tricolor is the best looking adventure bike on the market IMHO

I think it looks great. Kudos to BMW! They made almost all the improvements everyone wanted. Agree with others that we still need Apple car play compatibility especially since the phone adapter is crap. Wondering if those of us with soft luggage are going to be able to use it on this model. Glad to hear the shift assist is smoother now. That first to second shift is pretty rough on the 1250. Adventure model in the works?

I’m pretty disappointed they didn’t include a new TFT. Or maybe something that lets you customize the gauge cluster with a few different styles. Disappointed on no CarPlay too.

This GS is EXACTLY the reason I bought my 2023 Trophy GSA… Cagers are already distracted as it is NO TAIL LIGHT is a definite NO SALE for me… plus the stupidity of a dangerous Adaptive Cruise Control… I can’t wait how far they fd up the GSA… maybe they’ll show us in EICMA next month.
GSs we’re never about the power but torque so you can get out of a hairy situation in the wilderness… If one wants HP there’s a Duschcati and off course the ready to repair KTM 1290 R(now a 1390 coming out) to just show off and have reaaally deep pockets… BMW messed up on this one

well, I just saw one yesterday, nicely parked in front of a house, with the tricolor livery. It looked handsome, not sure what to say about that headlight though.

With 13.3 compression ratio. Does the bike need premium fuel? Which will be quite difficult for overlanders

So funny, as I'm watching this video you mention the Triumph Tiger Rally Pro which in my mind's eye I think that BMW made this new GS 1300 look more like the Tiger. Well done BMW, the Tiger is a handsome ADV machine!

So I checked out the configurator and managed to get the price above £28k including luggage. This is just silly, you can buy a lowish mileage Porsche with this amount of cash. Or 3 other new bikes. Do people really want to take bikes that are this expensive and risk trashing them off road? Overall I think BMW did a fantastic job though, it's improved in every way.

I agree with there bing too much tech. I don't want a bike with a quick shifter and too much TCS. I want a bike that feels like I need some skill to ride, then most of my riding for the last 40 years has been on old bikes like the Moto Guzzi Mark V (1989) and Lowrider Sport (1988) hotted up and most of the time with a sidecar. The Pan Am is the first modern bike I have had, and I love the rider modes, power, throttle, engine braking, ABS and suspension setting, but I mostly ride it with custom modes that are very raw, max power, minimal interferance.

It's clear they have leaned towards sport over other areas . The question is given their customer base, which is older people that find sports bike to uncomfortable, this is a smart move 🤔
