Really informative video !! I’m setting up my smart home with Alexa so I’m buying this vacuum next week...you can’t go wrong with a $324.99 price tag !!
*A great vacuum💯 for the price. The suction is awesome **MyBest.Tools** excellent for pet hair. The beater attachment works great on the stairs. Not too heavy and easily maneuvered.🤨*
I'm a "snowbird" and spend the winters in another state🌼 I bought the Roomba 690 for my winter place. After using it, I replaced my old Roomba for a Roomba 690 in my winter home too. It works better, I think, because along with good suction, and a larger capacity to hold more dust and dirt, it has the brushes that get into corners and along baseboards.
Roomba's do weird patterns which aren't logical to OCD minds. I have the higher 890 model but I could tell from how the 690 was running, it was learning the rooms. But even when it isn't learning the rooms the patterns it runs aren't rational to us. The Roomba's don't pick up 100 % but they pretty much do over two passes. These units really should be run twice a week, if you do that you will have great floors except for a few inches in every corner. The unit can get hung up on furniture and sometimes moving "problem pieces" a foot or two and changing their orientation solves the problem. In our dining room, we have twelve chairs. The chairs along the side are all oriented the same and are no problem, but the two end chairs aren't oriented the same so by moving the chairs to be parallel to the side chairs the Roomba doesn't get hung up. Our chairs have one side of four the Roomba can't get through , that's the problem. The reason patterns seem odd is that the Roomba might do 2/3's of a rug and latter come back to pick it up. I use our Roomba downstairs covering basically the entire house, so it has to retire and re-charge to get the entire area covered. Since I leave the house everyday, I will turn it on then, but I don't use the daily schedule available I'm a lazy male and I love my 980 so much I'm considering a 630 for the upstairs bedrooms. Its so nice not haveing to vacuum except the corners maybe once every three or four months. Since I am lazy I wish the dirt bins were larger, with my downstairs 980 I have to clean it out every time. I am guessing for the upstairs bedrooms I will only have to clean out the 690 every two or three cycles.
*I run the m6 daily, and my floors look awesome🌼 **allabout.wiki/Vacuum-Wi-Fi** I wet mop 2 days and dry sweep the rest of the days. When I first got it, I used the included disposable pads. I didn't like them--the dry pad has no depth so if it picks up a chunk of something, like dry cat food, then it pushes it around or drags it around the floor. The wet pad wasn't very absorbent so left streaks and wheel marks.*
Komor Arcu Thank you for your comment! I think she will like it, it’s very useful. Remember that if you don’t have Alexa, you can download the Amazon app and use Alexa there to start the vacuum with your voice.
I got mine with a Thanksgiving sale, saved $75 and love it! Haven't yet tried the app programming but it was great with just a push of a button. After 1st charge, it ran for an hour and a half! I was impressed! I'm disabled, so my push vacuum didn't get pushed enough. This will be a life saver! Need to teach my cat how to ride on it now! LOL!
How long does the battery last? I have a different model and after almost 2 years the battery won't hold a charge anymore. I'm looking to switch it out with this model. Do you find you have to empty the bin often?
I haven't had any issues with the battery. I just let the Roomba go and it automatically goes back to its station when it's done. If you liked the previous model, you'll like this one. Also, consider getting a generic battery on eBay if you want to squeeze a little more use out of the one you currently have.
Katie Hutson Hi Katie, you do not. It is possible to use an Alexa to activate it by voice, but is just something extra you can do. You can get a Roomba and operate it without having to use an Alexa device.
It's weird that you mention that. It does dock without issue, but I've been noticing that it will go out when I activate it and do a good job of cleaning, but it is not able to get back and dock properly. I have to unplug the base, plug it back in and then it docks again without issue. It's the only issue I've had with this model. It's not a huge deal since my Roomba usually covers multiple rooms and dies out before it can get back to the cradle. Have you had a chance to test that out?
Only the 900 series and the i7 series clean in straight lines back and forth like traditional vacuuming. They have a camera on top of the Roomba that maps out the rooms then they use the included lighthouse virtual walls that the Roomba will talk with that notifies the Roomba if an area is finished then continue onto other sections of your house. The i-series will also allow you to pick certain areas of your house to clean exclusively instead of cleaning the whole house. All other Roomba series will clean randomly in random patterns. They still clean well nonetheless but not logically.
I can’t say enough good things about my RoombaBISSELL PowerFresh Steam Mop You can start it from the app from anywhere. I know I am coming home to clean floors and it’s awesome.
Thanks for the video, I was a Roomba fan, my latest Roomba was a 980, unfortunately it had very weird issues, you can't use it on the dark, when it sees the virtual wall it did weird circles instead border the area, I sold it and got a Neato, they clean the same way as the 980 but the cheapest Neato model too, sorry to said this but you got a dumb Roomba with wifi, the only Roomba that can clean your entire home correctly is the 900 series, other model is just for having old customers stick with iRobot, your new Roomba can't clean more than your bedroom correctly, if you leave your door open it will go outside, yes, but it will not clean your entire floor, it can try but it will not complete it, the Neato as the Roomba 900 series will clean, if battery runs low they will recharge and resume the job, they know exactly where they are, where to go. Neato can clean using Alexa or Google, of course, if you have the wifi model, can clean in the dark and one or the most annoying issues, it can clean my dark brown carpets, Roomba was thinking they were a drop/cliff and did not clean them. For the price of the 690 I would buy a D3, better navigation, more dirt bin space, more vacuum power, bigger brush. I will return to Roomba if they use another method of mapping the room, the camera has limitations, in my case I like to clean with the lights off in the night, and the carpet problem, this been for years and years and they still using the same sensors. Sold by Amazon the price for the new Roomba 890 is $499, for a Neato D5 is $420, you can't compare how they do the job, 890 is the same as 690 but with better vacuum and brushes, navigation is the same, bumping arround, D5 has a few more features than the D3. I wanted to see this video to confirm my theory that iRobot just got the 600 series and added a wifi, because the blue filter is included in some 500 models by the way, and it's included in all 600 models. Don't take my opinion wrong, my mom still has a Roomba 560(with blue filter), she loves it...
What roomba? 980? I tested them all, the true intelligent navigation is on the 900 series and they don't worked as my expectations, Neato in the other hand is cheaper and works as my expectations, but probably depends the house environment because I will recomend a 900 series to a guy that has problems with neato.
You do know that the star brush motor is replaceable, just remove screws and install new one everything is replaceable. Your new roomba has the up graded gear box that areo or something like that. You can also upgrade your old roomba gear box and dust holder to newer one.
Horrible... Horrible.... Horrible experience with this product and irobot customer service. If you were not aware, this product fails miserably on carpets or rugs that have light and dark areas together. The unit is unable to deal with the contrast and your carpet will not be cleaned. You will only discover this shortcoming AFTER you purchase the item.. They won't warn you and risk losing your business. This means you need to vacuum by hand, which defeats the purpose. IRobot knows all about this and is working on a new model. Pretty sad that this is the best they could do and knowingly decided to pawn this off on customers. It also gets stuck easily under furniture meaning the job won't be done when you get home. Other than that, it works fine on other surfaces.

This model will be on sale for Black Friday at Target for $274.99 might want to hold off for a bit

I bought one, thanks to you, I hope my wife will be happy when she see under the Christmas tree :)

Thats a great first hand review! I think you're really going to like it when you can just start it off with your voice whenever you want!
It has been used several times and loved.
How often do you change the filter and the brush???
I hadn't thought of it until I read your comment! I actually made a video about it, so take a look, but to answer your question, 3 months.

Do I have to have an Elexa to run the iroomba.
Katie Hutson Hi Katie, you do not. It is possible to use an Alexa to activate it by voice, but is just something extra you can do. You can get a Roomba and operate it without having to use an Alexa device.
Amazing camera work!
Where do the batteries go? You didn't mention that.
Nina Moore silly bugger you are! It most likely goes in the beacon.
Is the only improvements between this and the 650 is app connectivity?
Yes, it looks like the additions are iRobot Home App control and Alexa compatibility.
Did it have trouble finding the charging dock with it in the corner?
It's weird that you mention that. It does dock without issue, but I've been noticing that it will go out when I activate it and do a good job of cleaning, but it is not able to get back and dock properly. This video really helped me set it up. Not sure how you set this up to Alexa but will continue to try.thanks for this video.
Thanks for your comment Patty. Have you looked for the iRobot/Roomba skill in the Alexa app? Thats how you get started on linking the two.
Was it doing random patterns because it has not learned the room yet? Do you just command it to start with the app if you don't have Alexa?
It is a possibility, yes. You can start it by pressing a physical button on the Roomba, the app, or your voice via Alexa.
Only the 900 series and the i7 series clean in straight lines back and forth like traditional vacuuming. I have a question. How long does the rumba vacuum when you schedule it at a certain time?
It can go for a few hours on a full charge.
louididdy thank you!
You recorded this with an iPhone 7 Plus didn’t you
That is correct.
can you connect your braava jet to alexa?
Doesn't look like that is available yet.
I can’t say enough good things about my RoombaBISSELL PowerFresh Steam Mop You can start it from the app from anywhere. I know I am coming home to clean floors and it’s awesome.

Well you should be got a xiaomi then. If thats the type of nav and everything you want... It puts neato to shame.
Thanks for the F bomb while I was watching with my daughter
Jessica Deragon I hope she recovers from that.
I'll take the old one off your hands!
I haven't listed it on Ebay yet, how much?
louididdy they go 280 new what's far to you? I'll probably buy all new brushes ect
CRABST3R ! Still haven't gotten rid of it, Im going to post it up soon and report back. You can bid and might get a good deal.
You do know that the star brush motor is replaceable, just remove screws and install new one everything is replaceable. Your new roomba has the up graded gear box that areo or something like that. You can also upgrade your old roomba gear box and dust holder to newer one.
Very cool! Do you have any videos of this? Do you buy the parts from iRobot? I still haven't sold the old one, maybe I can make a video of that!
Horrible... Horrible.... Horrible experience with this product and irobot customer service.

Robots! Win !
Just bought one and I'm disappointed. It sucks
Jarvis James What don’t you like it? Let’s hear it.
Annoying shaking of the camera...couldn't stand to watch more than a few minutes
Well, its feedback, which part specifically? I'm trying to improve, thanks for commenting.
For 400 dollars I would rather buy a top of the line dyson vacuum
v231 xx who has the time to push that thing around?!
