How Does Creality's 40W Laser Perform? A Saveitforparts Tool Review

  • Recently I tested the Creality Falcon 2 40W laser engraver and cutter. It offers twice the power of any other laser I've used so far!
I did have a few issues along the way, but after some consultation with tech support, I was able to get it running more reliably. I had to adjust a few things and update the firmware to avoid some air flow and tilt sensor errors.
The cutting speed and power is good, and the initial setup is very fast. I also liked the multiple foot mounting options and the smoke tent enclosure (I believe that's an optional extra, but is a good idea!).

I'd think this would be a fantastic review. I'd imagine these complaints would be very common amongst average user. While it's not a glowing review, it should be highly valuable information for Creality.

Reviewers are not beta testers. It's crazy to think they've shipped out half working machine to a content creator. I highly appreciate Saveitforparts' integrity for posting this review even though it's highly critical to the product.

@@maciejkobus while I'd say the TH-camrs who buy products themselves to review aren't beta testers, it's fairly common practice these days for companies to ship out and even charge full price for beta products. Just look at the gaming industry, tech industry, medical industry and automotive industry and it's pretty apparent.

When I used GRBL before, the sudden shut offs were often from electrical noise--the little boards they use have absolutely no shielding on them and are very susceptible to noise in the signals to the steppers. Try some ferrite rings on all the power wires close to the board and then can dampen some of them down.

A very nice laser cutter with a few problems that, I think, can be solved. Chinese developers think differently, and sometimes interesting constructions come out of it. It's important to tighten all screws on new devices; I don't understand why the Chinese don't tighten the screws. The laser glasses have a bit of a 'Back to the Future' vibe.

This seems like one of those Haphazard Microsoft business model releases.
Where they just get it up and running well enough that they can sell it at some poor fool who will wait for the software updates to fix it.
I have a Bibo 2, it has dual extruders and a swappable laser head.
It's not very strong, won't actually engrave metal, but it will remove masking.
I coat brass plates in a thin black lacquer.
The Bibo does its thing and then I use a chemical etchant to finish the job.
That laser head needs to have some flexible duct work so that it can breathe clean air from the outside.
This is similar to the Trotec, their ventilation really lacked, so they're mirror head always got fouled and it would impede the strength over time.
Running air directly into the mirror box was of some help.

Not a huge fan of creality. My Ender 3 had the USB-serial bridge out, because they designed the board so the USB power from the PC will overload the chip. Told them that I had the problem, they kept telling me to send photos of the fault. Now, how do I send a photo of a bridge chip that got burnt out, when it doesn't have a hole burnt in it?
No idea, but I spent about 3 weeks trying to get the board replaced, but they never got past the initial "take photos" thing
