      @@axhen Movie trailer being misleading? Well that's a new one...
      Yes the monsters are a representation of "terror". The same way the Americans used "terror" as an excuse to invade countries again and again, the aliens here are a perceived threat that is the excuse to attack civilians "for their own protection".

    • @axhen
      @axhen ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@fabianfeilcke7220 i'm talking about the first one, where the trailer sells it as people living in a world attacked by aliens, while the movie is a roadtrip of 2 people in South America. What's misleading is that most of the scenes with aliens are in the trailer, selling a film vastly different from what the movei actually is. It's like making a Titanic trailer but only with the shots where the Titanic is sinking and the people are drowning, like yes technically it's in the movie but it's not the main story, it's basically lying to the audience
      Edit: i do agree that trailers tend more and more to be misleading, and i understand the metaphor in both movies, but that first trailer compared to rhe first movie is disgustingly unfaithful

    So the monsters are a metaphor for terrorism. They look scary, but are never actually seen killing people. The military uses the monsters as justification for bombing campaigns in villages and cities but cause more damage to the civilians than the monsters ever could. All of the deaths that occur in this movie are a result of the never ending cycle of revenge and not the monsters themselves. Soldiers kill civilians, who become rebels, who kill soldiers, so the army sends more soldiers to rescue the previous group of soldiers and the cycle continues. By the end of the movie, the war stops being about the monsters and the soldiers no longer have any idea what they are fighting for.

      To show us that WE are the monsters, not them. Humans think they are the chosen ones, created by God to rule creation and that the universe revolves around us. In reality, we are nothing but an aggressive, xenophobic, selfish, self-centered species on a backwater planet with delusions of grandeur. Not a bad message for a bad B-movie 🙂. That's my take anyway, but I'm a fan of H.P. Lovecraft and cosmic horror, so I might be biased 🙂 .

      @@vrykyl6464 Then again, you COULD actually just remove the monsters in this movie, and nothing changes. Seriously, the monsters here doesn't do anything at all. Like, I understand to a degree why they were added, like to show "These aliens are innocent, yet we bomb them anyways because they are not the monsters, we are." But you could literally replace the aliens with civilian populations mistaken to house terrorists, and nothing in the story would change.
      Compare that to HP lovecraft, and well, the monsters in THOSE stories are the main focus. If you remove the monsters there, suddenly there is no longer a story.
      See what I am getting at here?

But, with a more mysterious plot to it that was left unanswered and it was a great movie! Politically whatever, but man it was so good and also had one of the lowest budgets at $500,000 US and made over $4.24 million in box office. What a turn around. Battleship was similar. The aliens never fired on us until we fired first. They went out of their way to establish hostility with every single target, such as not firing on Missouri until the guns were pointed at it. Pretty much everything they did was defensive. I firmly believe we started a fight with an otherwise peaceful species in that movie.

    The idea of removing an element of a movie and nothing would change is usually exaggerated, as things WOULD change a bit... But this?... This movie and it's aliens? Nah, you could ACTUALLY remove them and the story of the movie is the EXACT same. What on God's green Earth where they thinking when they made this movie? Like, seriously? It seemed like they had a pretty good overall idea for a story, but then they were like, "You know what? Include some giant aliens." For... apparently no reason whatsoever.
    Like. What are we supposed to focus on here? Not the aliens, that's for sue, even though they are almost definitely the selling point of the movie.
    Like, take another movie with a similar idea in mind, the Tomorrow War. There is an alien infestation on the planet, with some apex predatory monsters. What that movie does different from this one, is that it ACTUALLY has the aliens as a major plot point. Hell it's SUCH a major plot point, it's the entire reason for the movie's existence. Trying to find out a way to save their future from being engulfed by a never ending horde of rapidly breeding apex monsters that kills literally anything they come across, and exist in such a huge number, they are literally impossible to exterminate. THAT story WORKED. Because they actually gave the aliens a plot focus! Here, the aliens are an addition that literally adds nothing to the story, and changed nothing by being there, they have literally no focus whatsoever, and they are just there, in the background doing F all. In other words, it's absolutely pointless for them to be there.

    Some comment said it's a metaphor about war and relationship between west and middle east. But I think it's not that. It's just a pure war movie with monster as a background...heck they even not came out so often.
    It's so different with the first movie and it's like different theme and plot.
    I don't if the creators are too ambitious with the project or they just don't know how to write a sequel.
    I mean if watch a monster movie, I want the monster as the main attraction, not a side dish.
    When I watched it, I'm confused because almost all movie time are about how military react and conflict with locals...WTF. it's boring, it's just talking and talking and talking.
    Some comment are right, if they cut out all monster scene, it's just a common, tired war movie

  • @chrisvoa

    I never understood the motorbike scene. Why didn't they keep the fuel from one bike, both ride the other then use the fuel from the first one for the one they're using? That way getting twice the distance. But its a moofie and I'm looking too deep.

    Really wondering what the hell was the point of including monsters in the first place. They literally have 0 importantce or influence on the story. You could literally take them out and just have regular war story, and exactly nothing would change. When you make your monster not aggressive, easily killable by guns, and entirely non-threatening, it beats the whole purpose of having a monster.

    • @maximumeffort7096
      @maximumeffort7096 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The monsters are a metaphor. The monsters represent terrorists. Terrorists are in the middle east, so the US goes to the middle east to beat the terrorists, only to end up causing more destruction to the locals by trying to fight the terrorists, which turns them against the US and makes them into more enemies causing a vicious never-ending cycle.
      It's a metaphor, something that exists in stories for the sake of conveying a message, I'm sorry you never watch movies with more than a surface level story.
