Sweet Home was orginally a webtoon made by a popular creator. They also have 3 other webtoons out, one called "Shotgun Boy" which is the side story/spin off/prequel ( I’m not sure, webtoon presents it as a prequel ) to Sweet Home, the other called "Bastard" which is not necessarily horror but is definetely much more darker than "Sweet Home", and in my opinion, better too as it finds a way to be much more horrifying without having any supernatural elements to it. The last webtoon they have out is called "PigPen" which I think is one of their older works, I'm not sure but after reading a bit of it the art style seems a little underdeveloped compared to their recent webtoons. Essentially Bastard is about a high school boy with a weak heart who unwantigly assists his Father who is a serial killer.
I don't really think "Shotgun Boy" is a prequel exactly. I see it more of a spin off or a side story. There is no mention of patient zero there so I don't think it's really a prequel.
I also really, REALLY hate the ending. In the book, at the end the protagonist embraces becoming a monster, he still maintains his self control but completely transforms, with his wish (as all monsters have a wish granted to them) being to kill the monster before him, so his first transformation isn't an edgy wing, but his arm becoming a lance, like a knight, mimicking his spear he always used. He slowly transforms until he looks like a fleshy knight of sorts with a dark hood. In the end, everyone escapes. They start a camp somewhere else, and in the end the protagonist returns to them transformed. Many monsters eventually reaching a full circle on their metamorphosis and becoming an evolved human of sort. One that's purged of sin, purged of desire, and often forget who they once were. Our protagonist even after his full metamorphosis back into a human seems to remember his companions, and finds them once more many years later.
@@WarFoxThunder That's why it was popular enough to become a TV series. The ending was genuinely beautiful and they kind of butchered it. He went from a boy who had nothing and wanted to die, wanted for nothing, to someone who wanted to protect those in front of him. He sacrificed himself, and he became a monster symbolic of the person he'd become over that short time. The ending doesn't involve the military at all, as that's more in line with the prequel "Shotgun Boy" I recommend giving Shotgun Boy a read, as it's about a god, beings akin to demons, and how this whole mess creating monsters started. All with a friend of his who wanted to die just as much as our protag in Sweet Home.
I have read the webtoon a long time ago. I thought it ended when he and his friends go diffrent ways. Where the last chapters just not out yet or did you get the info about the Evolution and camp from somewhere else
@@neku7602 At the very end you can see the main heroine wielding a weapon, at what seems to be some sort of encampment in a city, as the protagonist approaches after turning back into a human. This is the final episode I believe of the series. The info about evolution can be gathered from many points in the series. It's seen when the new humans first evolve from the cacoons the monsters become. The stuff about desires and how people transform is seen in the woman who missed her baby (becoming a giant infant) The protagonists own transformation, the girl in the beginning who wanted to no longer be hungry as a model starving herself (and thus became a man eating monster) and clearly a monster stating it's desire "protein" over and over appearing as a hulking behemoth, clearly wanting to be strong.

Writers: this med student is so cold and heartless, he’s just leaving people to their deaths, don’t you just hate him? Cinema Summary: This med student has his head on straight and his priorities in order, and he’s the only one here with the mindset needed to survive long term.
In the original webtoon he was actually a gamer not a med student and the only none biased person so he was the only one fit to lead but he was also very sympathetic and a "no one left behind" kinda guy.
if someone's wondering, the monster you'll become is the thing you desire the most. for example, the woman who has an imaginary child in her stroller became an infant inside a mother's womb. while the selfish old man became a person with alot of hair because in the first episode it was shown that he's only wearing a wig. if you're infected, you should not let your desires get into you.
The Hyun Su (or however you spell his name, please forgive me) probably became a super cool winged monster because for one thing, that's a fucking awesome form that any gamer would love to have. But he probably also desired to be special - being seemingly "immune to" and capable of taking advantage of the virus made him special, and it seems like he wanted to be special.
Personally, these people did an excellent job in surviving for that long because if this pandemic happens, literally no one can be this calm and very few can actually think of a strategy.
In the webtoon its revealed that the person who became the speed monster was a track and field athlete who always wanted to be faster. The only reason his legs are so big and his feet changed to a different structure is to better facilitate speed, also because his calves were likely large beforehand.

In the first monster scene I think throwing another noodle packet down the hall would have made a noise you could use to distract the monsters. I’m probably missing something but it would give you some time to quietly find a hiding place while the monster is distracted and if your lucky (or unlucky) the sound could attract another monster leading to one killing the other thus which ever one survives will most likely be injured and exhausted thus allowing you to flee the area.
the med guy was honestly the best character in the drama. Hyun Cha's soul in the Manwha is much creepier, elastic and more manipulating than the series and I think its more important to show the people who are turning the scenes of their souls to let the viewers who haven't read the comic know that its not that easy to just not want to turn into a monster but I guess its fair since they have to compress over 100 episodes of comic under 10 episodes.
I did like how the actor smiled during the scenes of his monster side coming through. That's such a key feature of that part of Hyun so I really was hoping they'd be able to show it. It was super creepy and unsettling.
@@yvesfromloona_real According to the writers, the author, and artist of the Manwha requested the writers of the show to have a different take on the series. He was wishing the writers could expand the storyline outside the apartment and to the outside world.
Hyun was a nice kid but was bullied at school by the monster bandit kid and was threatened to end his dad's career. His parents didn't care so when his whole family died in a car accident he didn't even attend their funeral. Hyun only got 25 k money to use for the rest of his life so he went to a crappy apartment to stay. The security guard is abused in the apartment building and is paid minimum wage but he is a nice guy. The people in the building complain about him even when he does nothing. Hyun and the other monster kid are half monsters because they never fully gave their wish and it will get harder and harder to resist the opportunity...
Originally the other monster kid was actually simply bipolar, so I think one of his personalities had given into their desire, likely the more homicidal one. The comic was amazing and unless you've already seen it, I'd recommend it to you
@@w1z4rd9 well that desire would still act like fuel like all the monsters who had a desire, basically once you have no more requests that you can desire of you end up turning into a cocoon which births a new human

I also like the main protagonist because he is unique because he doesn't have any desire other than to die before the outbreak, (because of spoiler, I will not explain further) but when he met the two children and the people on the apartment trying to survive then he found a new purpose on his life and using his own will to resist transforming into a monster.

Just so people know, this is also a manga. The story starts with him being suicidal and turns to him wanting to live, fighting harder and harder to stay alive and protect the people near him.
ngl, when i first saw this series, the first idea that came into mind is, divide the people into 2 groups, 1st group task is to barricade the first floor by checking all the rooms, taking beds, cabinets, chairs etc to barricade all the entrance, 2nd group is to collect all resources from food, water container and weapons and bring them all to the roof, then once the ground floor is barricaded, do the same to the 2nd floor and 3rd floor, if possible destroy the stairs, imagine the building in the dying light, once they've barricaded 1st,2nd and 3rd floor, and maybe up to the 5th floor, they should bring all resources to the rooftop, its the safest part of the building, since atleast you can see everything that is coming at you, and if there's a rescue chopper, you can create a signal light and if someone is infected, you can just throw them out.
Just to let yall know so ur not confused while watching this series, at 18:87 where the girl is "bleeding", they're just training up for when a real monster comes since the old man helped them and they all made traps together. Later into this series, the whole building is full of traps so they can catch the fast monster.
I highly recommend reading the comic. It leaves out a lot of details making you wonder what's going on and makes you feel for the supporting characters making their deaths more heart tugging.
I love how he says the sword guy get's taken out by the lamest monster. In the webtoon the security guard was scary. They turned the elevators on and on the top floor something entered the elevator and the warning sign flashed that the weight far exceeds the weight the elevator can hold. Then the warning disappears and the elevator comes down and this guy steps out. A bit later you see security footage where he is a horrible monster but just "condensed" himself into human form to fit into the elevator. He is hard to put down and kills almost half the group before they can stop him. It saddens me that they couldn't "translate" such a well thought out creepy moment into the movie.
This Video never Mentions that the Protag is Sui-idal. In fact, it's heavily, heavily implied in the Manga that that contradictarory 'Goal' oround Life and Death is what gives him the Ability to Resist.
When I read the webtoon, he seemed scary but the deaths seemed very avoidable seeing that his only attack was using the weed wacker and they had the weapons to counter
They were asians, smarter than us. ^^ On a more serious note, korea's cinema industry is currently thriving because they do have a generation of better screenwriters. They are not afraid to tackle societal matters and have smart characters.
I think he was a drunk. The changes are based on their desires. His wanted to drink and keep on drinking so he became a fluid drinking monster. One was a body builder and became a gargantuan child eating wall crushing behemoth because he wanted to be bigger and stronger.
I like how characters in Korean horror films are just WAY smarter than your average horror protagonist. It's refreshing seeing someone put up a fight - it makes it all the more tragic when they fail, because they actually tried.

Some interesting facts, the security guard actually was not trying to help the tenants when he closed them in the apartment, the effects of the virus started appearing and he was actually planning on killing them all so he tried to trap them inside. This was because all tenants treated him badly in the apartment and when he though a lady was finally being kind to him giving him a lot of fish as a gift, he opened the box It turns out the fish was completely rotten. After this the virus started talking over and he starts getting thoughts of killing everyone but luckily he got trapped in the elevator. He was also not lame at all, he is super tanky super strong and weights a couple of tons so every hit is extra strong, I think that in the manhwa the religious samurai Guy actually dies when the monster stepped on his head and completely crushed It, then they kill It by getting him close to the door and the mosquito Guy dries him out. The Spider Guy was actually a Guy that just wanted to survive(I dont remember the details) and he became a super strong Monster that evolves super quickly, I think that he even became inmune to fire at some point. The were also some neutral Monsters that didnt attack anyone, there was a little boy that just wanted to have fun so he became a slime Monster that likes to play hide and seek, and a lady that Lost her unborn daughter and becomes a giant fetus. I don't rememebet the details but I think the Runner Monster Guy just wanted to be the fastest and Killed his Runner friend out of jealousy (I think he also had an accident and became unable to run). He actually stored the body of his friend in his closed and It is found in a pretty bad state later on. Oh, and the husband of the old lady was actually a drunk wife beater, and she kinda had the stockholm syndrome, so when he started transforming she was actually kinda Happy that she was able to kill him. @@phyokyawkhaing2251 What?
THATS AMAZING
@@WarFoxThunder That's why it was popular enough to become a TV series. The ending was genuinely beautiful and they kind of butchered it. He went from a boy who had nothing and wanted to die, wanted for nothing, to someone who wanted to protect those in front of him. He sacrificed himself, and he became a monster symbolic of the person he'd become over that short time. The ending doesn't involve the military at all, as that's more in line with the prequel "Shotgun Boy"
I recommend giving Shotgun Boy a read, as it's about a god, beings akin to demons, and how this whole mess creating monsters started.
The stuff about desires and how people transform is seen in the woman who missed her baby (becoming a giant infant) The protagonists own transformation, the girl in the beginning who wanted to no longer be hungry as a model starving herself (and thus became a man eating monster) and clearly a monster stating it's desire "protein" over and over appearing as a hulking behemoth, clearly wanting to be strong.

if someone's wondering, the monster you'll become is the thing you desire the most. for example, the woman who has an imaginary child in her stroller became an infant inside a mother's womb. while the selfish old man became a person with alot of hair because in the first episode it was shown that he's only wearing a wig. if you're infected, you should not let your desires get into you.

I love how he says the sword guy get's taken out by the lamest monster. In the webtoon the security guard was scary.

I think he was a drunk. The changes are based on their desires. His wanted to drink and keep on drinking so he became a fluid drinking monster. One was a body builder and became a gargantuan child eating wall crushing behemoth because he wanted to be bigger and stronger.
He probably wanted to eat and was hungry
he prob wants to cosplay leave him alone 🙄

I like how characters in Korean horror films are just WAY smarter than your average horror protagonist. It's refreshing seeing someone put up a fight - it makes it all the more tragic when they fail, because they actually tried.
Koreans are usually smart anyways
We definitely know one thing, the running monster definitely took never skipping leg day to the extreme.
Also, what was the desire of the male shopkeeper when he showed up looking like he was way overdue for a haircut or trying to set a new Guinness World Record
He was wearing a toupee and really wanted hair.
"If beefcake were around, he'd take care of them for us." --- funny, they took care of the beefcake in the comic.

@@ikesolomona9286 In the original webcomic, the people that come to take over the apartment building take out the Beefcake Monster using a prison bus.
@@noisehero4409 I won't lie, I actually like the way Protien Monster died in the show than the comic. He got toppled, impaled, and set on fire as opposed to being repeatedly smashed by the prison bus
Living "cheaply" and living in a crack den are two different things...
Idk about the live action remake but in the WEBTOON he only wanted to live for a limited amount of time to see a movie before committing suicide so he only wanted to stretch out his inheritance
@@Phoenix-vf4nd yeah it's the same in the kdrama
Well said tho. I was just about to comment the same thing. The content creator just doesnt know the full grasp of the webtoon.
@@perrytheplatypus3035 dudeee thiss. Agree so much. Me and my friend is like followed this manhwa since back in high school and we're so hyped they chose preety good cast. But then they slashed the entirety of the plot. Idk if it's budget problem or just literal block in turning it into irl but a lot of scene that's actually very important got cut off. One of my friend that doesn't read the manhwa said it's preety good. But i guess if you read the manhwa you're going to be a little pissed because this manhwa is supes good at going back and forth between human drama and thriller, while the drama just hyped thriller all the way.
@@filesorganized5919 I followed the webtoon when it was still ongoing and read the whole thing and even though the plot of the live action was different, I still thought that it was entertaining to watch. Plus I heard that the author requested the changes.
You left out some important points
1. The engineer is a cripple and is in a wheelchair
2. Jisu the guitar girl isnt infected, she was faking it because they were practicing monster drills
3. The grandpa was never infected either. During the fight against the protein monster outside, he started vomiting blood because he has unhealthier organs
Still love the video :))
grandpa was infected in the comic
Nah Gramps was infected sadly :(

Well, I could go on and on but I think you should just read the manhwa
whoa.I want to know more about slime boy and fetus lady
@@srijanumesh5355 Fetus lady cares for the kids as a mother, and when her desire finally hits her, she becomes a sentient monster in a closet, I think she ended up being "reborn" at some point as a real monster.
Slime kid is just a kid that was playing hide and seek with his mother when the whole thing happened, he became scared and put the idea on his mind that if he hides, nothing bad will happen, he's harmless but ends up being mercilessly killed by the med student (I think it was him)
