I Can't Afford Health Insurance! Now What?!?

  • Let's talk about health insurance, because while it may seem like a no-brainer, some people actually still don’t have health insurance because they don’t qualify for the free one, but still can’t afford a paid one. Countries like Canada offer free healthcare for its citizens, so why can’t the USA? While ObamaCare was, and kinda is, a good idea, it’s terribly flawed.
Where I live in Connecticut, my health insurance Husky used to be a simple $100/mo out of pocket. This was affordable, and we had wonderful health insurance. 2 years later, they changed the policies to where my option was to pay $450/mo, or show less than $34,400/yr for the free state insurance. That is a CRAZY gap, and neither option was particularly appealing. If I paid $5,400 a year, I couldn’t afford to buy a house. If I only show $34,400, then I don’t make enough to qualify for a house. So I might as well go on Section 8 and food stamps, then let the government pay for everything. But I digress.

I fall in the category where i cant get anything free or any assistance but i cant afford health insurance. I honestly dont want my health care to be free but i wish it would just be fair. A few years back i had a accident with a grinder where it cut my arm open and the blade had chainsaw teeth on it. Now it was a bad injury but it required no surgery or anything fancy. Just a xray and stitches. Took them a whole 15 minutes to fix me up. But the bill i got for it totaled almost $8000. I didn’t have insurance so i was stuck with it. I called for a self pay discount and they where so generous to drop it down to a manageable $6000 (sarcasm) but i was like how is that fair? What part of that racked up to 6k? I was there bleeding out for 3 hrs but only got 15 minutes of care. And the xray bill was like $50 so they are telling me the numbing stuff, cotton pads, stitching thread, and needle costs $5950?!? And this past year I finally broke down and got insurance and the cheapest i could find was $500/mo and thats without me really having a medical history besides a few accidents. I could only keep that up for like 3 months before i had to get rid of it because i couldn’t afford it. And the government assistance only caters to people with little to no income. This has me convinced that the system hates working class people. They only take care of the really poor people but forget about us in the work force making shit happen and contributing. Its just really frustrating. Like i said i dont want anything free, thats just not my values. I just want someone to crack the whip what ever is making medical expenses so high and unreasonable.

This hit it right on the head for me.. I'm going through the same with a daughter without a father 😢 I've given up on our government. They are helping migrants with a 1k a month card, but I'm from here born and raised and I make too much money for them to help me and my fatherless daughter 😭😭 I'm going to sue, after I pay my 30k in taxes this year 😢😢😢

I'm just gonna file a Chapter 7. It's cheaper than hospital bills. I have no choice.

I'm pre diabetic. Cant afford ins. When I get full diabetes I won't be treated. I will allow myself to die. No preaching about community health centers. They are awful.
