In my own production I can manage to grow broilers up to 3-3,5kg, roughly 5€/kg is my price because i produce my own grain, and cooking them a daily meal made of old bread from local bakery, potatoes, barley and corn. They seem to love it. I'm also considering a different type of egg mobile. Converting an old van to a mobile chicken coop so I can easily transport them in my orchard. I have roughly 3ha of orchard in one piece so chickens will have a lot more room to enjoy themselves.
Great video as ever!! I love watching your updates. I don't want to sound like a know it all but I see you chose to use washed gravel for your driveway. As I think it is a good option for your wash station so the water can drain away, I think this may not be as good of an option for your driveway as washed rock acts like marbles and when you drive it and all the rock will roll off to the edge and off your driveway. They never stay put. A better option in my opinion would be a 3/4 crushed rock where there is rock mechanically crushed from 3/4" down to dust. This gravel locks itself together and packs down and stays put creating a hard surface that does not get muddy. Again I love your videos and I learn so much from you. Thank you very much
How about putting an arrow on the tops of your broiler pens facing north so they are always pointed in the right direction? I think it would help in keeping them pointed in the right direction and I think it may also spark a question from new team members about why is there an arrow on all the pens.
You might find it curious that the pastured chicken raising folks around Penn State here use adjustable height feeders elevated enough to get the chicks to always stretch up to get their feed. Obvious anatomical improved growth of muscles, etc. They claim growth rates substantially greater, as you might expect. I'm liking your summer pasture pulse of life. kudos again :)
Wow, great video bud. I'm from south Africa. I see your chicks are done naturally with medication and stuff but can you tell, what natural supplements do you use?
Richard, an informative video. You sure are a hard working guy. Great looking children, you must be ver round. Richard what do you mean by kelime? Can yo show the smoker and the smoking process? What fuel do you use. I like your idea of smoking and increasing revenue without increasing the number of bud.
It is the Real cost of producing nourishing non toxic food. Industrial agriculture has lowered the cost of food in the US and has poisoned the consumer.
I believe your pens are 3m x 3m. As in the video you have said there are 1000 ish boilers. How many do you put in each pen? Is there a density amount to class as free range?
i believe his pens are 3x4m. Joel Salatin recommends 80-100 birds in each pen. Regulations for "free range" depend on each country. In France, it's based on the area of pasture in the rotation. So yes in theory, they could be labeled free range even though they are definitely not free range. Regulations, at least here, were written without consideration of pastured poultry which is quite new in europe.
Hi Richard - the cubby house looks great - are you going to open up for farm visitor stays this season? I am going to be up your way for a work trip from Australia in early July, wondered if it was an option for an overnight stay?
Cant wait to see the roller pen in action. I am using pens and elektric fencing. The only problem i had is when all the chicks got into one pen during rain resulting in some 5 squashed. It never happen so far again.
"Look who's here" hahaha you gonna creep the shit out of this little girl !

Why do you spray the bedding with water before turning over?
Probably dust suppression.
👍👍👍
We just put our first batch out yesterday. Cheers from Oxbow farm Canada
wow, you have a prime location.
Nice to hear Tyson!
Trees and pasture grown well....happy times for chooks and all. Thank you for sharing - great info and entertaining too :-)

Simple, and I like it!

If there was a fire, how would you deal with it? Using water from the pond?

@richard perkins, hi I'm processing some 4kg dressed broilers but they have lumps around the top of neck under the skin, have u come across this?
Really interesting to see a sped up clip of daily chores

25€ for a chicken! $29 dollars for a chicken! Who can afford to pay these prices?!!
It's actually cheaper than a mass farmed organic bird in our local supermarket. Sweden ain't cheap...
It is 20€ for a free range Chichen in Slovakia. We do not buy the mass produced ones.
Less than 10 euro here for grass fed chickens , ireland
$10 for free range birds in Australia.

Depends on country. In the USA organic chickens I think need 1.5sqft per bird

How long do you keep your birds before taking them to slaughter?

Do you see the new chicken system as possibly working with quail?
Nice 👍 Richard , I love your farm👌where is this located?
Sweden
google it. Sweden near karlstad. Neat thing is the images are still from pre-richard.
So, there is no worry about parasites or the like from the old chicks transfering to the new ones via the bedding??
What is the purpose of adding water to the old chick bedding?
Dang it, so close to being being the 1st to like this video but came in 2nd.
