2017: It was a contest, he had to show what he was capable of and he performed just one song. His performance showed the high quality of his voice and talent. He sang for judges.
2020: he was already Dimash, the name, the singer. There was no need to proof to judges his talent. He was singing for his fans, there is emotion over voice (still great voice). More mature performance. And it was a concert, can you imagine how many songs performed before S.O.S and still sang great. I loves both performances.
2017 version is vocally flawless and overall better than 2020

He definitely struggled more with high notes now, but still hits them and has way more control overall than he used to. He’s way better overall now than he was. Also, he can go a lot higher more consistently now than he used to. He just can’t do lots of high notes over and over like in concerts and stuff easily anymore. In single song performances though, oh my.
Both versions are amazing and I can tell he's improved his French pronunciation a bit over the years although there's a part of the song where he always has the lyrics wrong and never corrected it in any performance : after "Au grand lotto de l'Univers (At the big lottery of the Universe)" he's supposed to say "J'ai pas tiré l'bon numéro (I didn't catch the right number)". But it's alright as the interpretation is flawless

In 2020 he is in a concert he changes the version of the song his french is better and yep he might be a little tired thats why he sounds very different in 2017 he is rest .both flawless. To me my favourite is slavic bazzar version. Then.2017

I truly honestly love both version for different reasons because these two clips that was used held a very special memory for me.. the first clip from the singer is where i found the singer of my dreams (voice) and love for him the second one because i was actually there at that New York concert still can’t believe it... so thanks to the owner who had used these clips you literally just made my night

Dimash is so talented from the start that some improvement is impossible. Even just to keep the level is difficult. When he started to surprise the world he did it just like that. No stress. Now people and also Dimash himself will compare his present and past art. He will be more stressed not to do anything wrong even as an average. To do performance more emotional is also the way how he can cover nervousness that some tone will not be perfect. He can wait, he can change it or to do emotional gesture instead of difficult tone or virtuoso transition. He feels more and more responsibility. That’s the problem of genial people. Also is difference between singing just one song and full concert. Dimash is genial.

The pronunciation definetly improved a lot, but he's still struggling with correct lyrics. A bit of personal preferences: no "J'ai pas envie d'être un robot - métro, boulot, dodo" line just kills me, I think it's kinda iconic

He is still great but he is a man y’all it’s natural for it to get lower as u can see in 2020 he is more mature so is his voice he has stronger lows and weaker highs now it was the opposite way before he can still go high but he struggles with his range a bit more as u can hear

I have been curious, because I don’t speak French, if his pronunciations have improved in this song over the last 3 years? Have seen reactions where he needs to work on a few words. Just wondering if any French speaking folks have paid attention to that. Random musing, I suppose. 😊
@@kgem5621 it seems to me that what really attracts attention is that I speak in Kazakh, and can speak Chinese Russian Italian English French etc. Sometimes with certain artitas one must be considered given the size of each. Dimash is an unquestionable phenomenon in that regard. I particularly do not look at its pronunciation but in its sound quality that I do not have language. Thank you

Live TV version (so with some post-editing in terms of sound - that goes for everybody, it's the norm) vs Live "televised" concert version (post-edited too? that would be kinda standard as well (nothing derogatory here, you know). The 2020 version sounds obviously more mature and sung with more emotions even tho these, IMO, were not his best vocals . He struggled a little bit with passaggios (transition) from registers and with up-front head voice. You can tell by the way He used glissandos to get into the right head-voice note while he usually hits it with ease straight away (04:57 - 06:30 - 07:32) and by some imperfections (05:59 first note was totally off-pitch but he got by and got the rest pretty much ok). At times he also sounds out of breath or with some diaphragm issues (from 07:17, the way he ends the two phrases). So... given both performances were "televised" and filled with the usual dose of post-editing I'm still going with the 2017 (at least between these two perfomances). Or maybe it's just like first love. You always go back to it :) ps: this was not intended as a derogatory comment toward Dimash. Just my honest analysis and explanation on why I chose one version instead of the other

I agree. We must take into account that on Singer he was preparing to sing just one song each week, so his voice is a lot more relaxed and rested, while in the recent performance he is singing a whole concert. But, if we make a blunt comparison, then I think Dimash never really surpassed his Singer 2017 performance. Even the popular Slavic Bazaar version is inferior to my ears, not in terms of technicality, but in terms of expression and emotion.
One more thing that has puzzled me a bit is that the Bastau concert (in 2017) is the last time I saw him push his voice so far and being so perfect throughout a whole single concert. In more recent concerts he is a lot more reserved, or is lip-syncing some really hard songs like Ogni Pietra.
@@opterios with regard to the Slavic Bazaar version I think that technically it's the non plus ultra. the best of the best but as you say it lacks some pathos. As for the rest I must admit that I haven't watched any Dimash concert lately so I really can't tell what's going on with his performances. Has he really resorted to using lip-synch for some of his songs? Is he overdoing it all a little bit?

Beaucoup de capacités vocales mais la prononciation des mots en français manquent de définition. Par le fait même nous perdons le sens du texte. 2017 ou 2020 c'est le même problème.
Pour une chanson apprise phonétiquement, la prononciation ne peut pas être parfaite. Sans oublier que sa langue natale est trés différente de la notre, donc un accent trés prononcé. Personnellement je ne trouve pas que cela enlève quoi que ce soit à sa prestation, je trouve même que la prononciation est meilleure sur la performance de 2017...
