  • Garmin has had a string of faulty transducers, but before you start calling Garmin and taking advantage of their great customer service, there are some things you need to check for yourself and rule out.
Today's video will show you exactly how a bad transducer can present itself, as well as other issues that can present themselves exactly the same way.
Garmin can be contacted by phone:

Mine starting doing this just over a week ago, I have the 56. Did all the things you suggested, mine is definitely bad. I will be giving them a call for a new transducer, thanks for the video.

Thanks for this video! Bought a new Garmin with a bad transducer, I would have been chasing the issue forever if it wasn't for this. On side view only half worked.

Great video on the garmin side view . I've had some darker shading on one side. Didn't think about the motor interfering with the transducer. Mine is the gt54 and I have a backup if I need it. Thanks again for some great information on garmin chartploters.

Dang. My GT54 side imaging just went out on the right side… lower frequency still works but higher has a really dark right side. I just reached out to Garmin via email. We’ll see what happens.

I loved my ecomap 93sv for about 2 months until the sonar stopped. I contacted garmin and they walked me through everything and pretty much told me it was set up wrong. I assured the cs rep that I have set up more of these things than several cs reps combined. If it were set up wrong it would not have worked for two months and then just not work. The gps is wonderful on it but it will not recognize the transducer. I have replaced two cradles and three transducers to no avail. I pleaded to let me send in the head unit but they never would allow it. Now that the warranty has expired,it still sits in my old shop collecting dust where it has been for probably 7 or 8 years now. I now have 2 lowrance and a humminbird which I set up and have never had an issue out of any other one that I set up and I have owned dozens over the years. I was so excited when I first got the Garmin, I guess I learned a hard lesson.

My first time customer service call was not the same this week and the guy was not even engaged in the conversation when speaking with me and he spent most of his time talking to someone else in the background and not addressing the questions I had. After holding for 46 minutes I had nothing to gain from it only than my own assumption that I just as well purchase another unit.

Yes there is definitely some kind of issue going on.
I have heard of farming replacing everything (transducer screen and cradle) to try and resolve the issue.
      Maybe suggest that to them???
Idk if it will help but worth a shot.
I have a original gt54 from 3-4 years ago and it’s not had a issue.

Would like to know if the other manufacturers are having the same issues

I think I might have a bad transducer, but idk because I accidently dropped the front of my kayak in the water from about 6 feet the transducer is mounted to the bottom of the front. Everything works but downvu doesn't show anything anymore every now and then it shows a faint image and then just specks. Does anyone know if this means it's messed up? Everything else works fine.

My downscan on the GT54 (mounted on Force Trolling Motor) went out middle of July and I worked with Garmin for a replacement under warranty and was sent a replacement. Not a fun job but I replaced it myself. Well, its just 3 months later and its out again. No image at all, just snow if I turn up the contrast and brightness all the way. Im powering this 122SV UHD Ultra (GT54) along with a 110SV Ultra (GT24) and 126SV Ultra (GT56) from 3 Milwaukee 18V lithium batteries wired in parallel. All units are on this same power source. When I first power up the units, the voltage reads 20.4V on all units even though they are 18V batteries. The GT24 and GT56 transducers work fine on downscan, its just the GT54 that has the issue. Garmin has questioned my votltage as being too high. If thats the case, why does the GT24 and GT56 not have issues on downscan? I know Im not the only guy who is powering their units using 18V Milwaukee batteries. Do you have any thoughts or experience with units powered with 18V lithium batteries and that causing damage to downscan crystals? Thanks and love your channel!!

      Hi Mike!
The echomap units are rated to 18v so by garmin spec you are over powering them running them on “18v” batteries. I will say I see lots of people running the same batteries and I’ve not seen or heard of any connection between the higher voltage and transducers going out.
Im surprised that Garmin warrantied the transducer after hearing it was ran on 20v (even though it may or may not be the issue) just another reason I like garmin top notch customer service.

@@MGMarineTechYes, They sure are the best. I just got notified they are sending a replacement GT54 and nose cone/transducer replacement kit for free exchange. This was after I sent a screen shot of my unit showing no image on ClearVu.. and.. showing voltage of 18.4. If high voltage was the problem, my GT24 and GT56 would of had ClearVu issues by now after almost 2 yrs of service you'd think. Thanks for your help! I enjoy all your expertise and have learned lots. Your clear delivery and explanations are top notch!

I just picked up the 93sv with the GT54 transducer. Is it an issue that the unit isn't automatically recognizing the transducer as the GT54? I know how to set it as GT54 but seems odd it isn't auto detecting it.

I have my Gt-54 transducer with my 93sv on my trolling motor. I had a tournament couple weeks ago and about halfway through the day the left side stopped working on my Sidevu. I restarted unit and it didn't work all day. I then just turned left side off cause why use screen space with no info. But then I went out again this week and it seemed to work fine. What are the chances this is a bad transducer?

    • @MGMarineTech
      @MGMarineTech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

That’s a odd one! I’ve not seen them go out and come back!
Maybe a bad wire inside the cable somewhere especially with it being on a trolling motor. Or potentially a connection issue.
