The music of Star Trek, as well as Star Wars, when performed by a symphony orchestra IS the music of adventure, of achievement and of a future full of hope bigger than ourselves! Gene Roddenberry had a singular vision and then it was taken up by successive generations who have refined it a little but largely kept it intact; and in some cases made the devices imagined into reality. The words, "To boldly go.." all by themselves signify a journey begun with attitude! This is where humanity is now and we have just begun to explore OVER the horizon!
and here we are, Elon Musk, the creator of touch screen, Apple's SIRI and Google voice, Bluetooth, green energy, dreamers etc.....inspired by Mr Roddenberry Star Trek... i know i still do...
It's a shame the Star Trek series' that followed in the 2010's didn't carry that optimistic ideology. I don't think I've ever seen a show as needlesly depressing as Picard in a very long time.

It is essentially a tragic mess the cable and streaming television ideas have made of a medium that used to have global reach and immediacy! Now look what they have created, "channels" that require $5.99, $9.99 or more per month "extra" to fund the production of programs we used to see for free, essentially! I will grant the idea audiences are larger, commercial ads watched less and production costs hugely more significant but, here I sit watching a program (Battlestar Galactica) 14 to 15 years after it first aired! I might as well be watching "Leave It To Beaver" from the 1970s! However, the relevance of Science Fiction remains as a tool for exploring 'What Ifs...' and imagining all the ways our future may go, with us, without us, or in spite of us.

Was never a great fan of the show, but their arrangement and playing of Voyager is beautiful. DS9 was spot on as well given how hard the timing is. Very ST:TMP era style arrangement of the TNG theme. All of it was spot on.

This summer I am going to work on arranging a piece similar to this starting with the theme for the original series all the way through the newest movie. And then to finish it off all the themes morphing into one with features/solos for every section. So glad I found this, should give me a good head start.

I wonder why some people need to make an assumption that "clearly" no one in this orchestra has watched Star Trek. Last time I checked Star Trek is pretty mainstream on a global level. Overall this is one of the better if not the best performances of this piece on youtube.
They did a awesome job. Loved it. Grew up with all the Star Trek series, but seen TNG the most cause of my stepdad. But if I had to choose my favorite would be TNG.

At 2:45 (as the amazing DS9 theme winds down) ... come in with ONLY a flute (actually please use a penny-whistle, as Picard did) having just ONE performer playing that first section (of "The Inner Light") ... THEN slowly build on/add in the other instruments. That would be VERY effective and give us a pausing counterpoint to the beautiful full instrumentation you are providing:-) If I may be bold enough to say... a penny-whistle solo right there might even be a "Rug that ties the whole room together" :-)

They meant the song "Archer's Theme", which was supposed to be the main theme of the show instead of "Faith of the Heart". Unfortunately, the suits wanted something a little more modern and upbeat. I've never seen DS9 before but I really liked the theme, it reminded me of the songs we used to play in symphony orchestra in high school...but damn when I got to 5:46 I got chills. I liked their version of the Voyager theme even better than the original :)
This is brilliant, really wasn't expecting some of the really fantastic inclusions like the themes from The Inner Light and Generations. Grabs you right in the feels! Not so sure about the wrong notes and bizarre delayed timing throughout though, it's a bit jarring. Excellent regardless, the world needs more beautiful music like this!

This is brilliant, really wasn't expecting some of the really fantastic inclusions like the themes from The Inner Light and Generations. Grabs you right in the feels! Not so sure about the wrong notes and bizarre delayed timing throughout though, it's a bit jarring. Excellent regardless, the world needs more beautiful music like this!
