Well, it's finally time. This video was a pretty huge undertaking, but I'm glad to at last discuss Can't Fear Your Own World Vol 3 - the final volume of the Bleach light novel series. As always with these novel videos, this isn't so much an exhaustive breakdown, but an overview and a look into the most critical characters. I hope you enjoy!

I can write a essay about many things got wrong or left out but the most important things are about hiokone and aura, they are mother and child for one, aura made hikone using her fullbring.
Ikomikidomoe, you have to pronounce the "e" like the "i" in "it". It was bothering me every time you said the name.😅😆
As for Tokindada Tsunayashiro's assassination, he mentions quite directly early on in the trilogy that the nameless assassin is the child of the assassins he hired to attempt to kill him in the first place. I had to go re-read it and even played through BBS' CFYOW parts and found that Tokinada called the hit out on himself. The young assassin was the child or at least related to the first group that tried to kill him on his own orders as he used them to kill his entire family. I hope this helps!
Yes, I believe she was the daughter of two of them. In addition to highlighting Tokinada's depravity that incident really showed the dark heart of Soul Society's nobility. That they are always at each other's throats and have the specific use of highly skilled and utterly ruthless assassins it's amazing it all hasn't collapsed, they are their own worst enemy.
Im wondering if CFYOW, will also be animated as a side story when TYBW plays through its seasons

I love that Tokinada was the final villain (so far) because he represents the faction that started much of this chaos to begin with: The Noble Families.
I love the fact that he'd so evil that Yoruichi would rather be under Aizen than him.
The fact he could easily emotionally attack Shunsui, Byakuya (two men known to keep their cool much of the time) and others shows that he knows he has reach to touch them but they can't touch him so easily.
The fact he has the powers to help change the world for the better but he would rather destroy is scary because villains like Aizen, Koga, Kiriya, Amagai, Ginjo and others did what they did for personal gain and you make change but.... Tokinada just wanted to put all the secrets out there just to see what happens.
Both him and Aizen are correct and the Soul Society is an inherently evil organization that destroyed the paradise and Nirvana to create multiple worlds with hardship and suffering all so they could grow stronger. The Shinigami are the ultimate villians of Bleach and Soi Fon, Yoruichi, and Kiskuke are responsible and who's hands are covered in blood covering up their sin

7:05 The real reason why fans care more about CFYOW than SAFWY is the former got both a fan translation and official translation so we can actually read the damn thing. SAFWY has nothing but a summary,

I am so tired that Safyw get shit for doing exactly the same things as Cfyow.People just read Cfyow and understand the context and grow to love characters in that novel.And you could do the same with Safyw only if you know Japanese.

To be fair, there was a minor MINOR amount of foreshadowing done for Hisagi’s Zanpaktou’s true nature in the Fake Karakura town arc. When he entangles Aeon with it and then Aeon breaks the chain holding him, Hisagi says “man it broke so easily” implying he knew the chain was more significant. Granted it’s a major stretch. What do you think is the unrevealed final clan that wanted to put a lid on Hell? We know Aizen has been pushing Hell back.
An immediate thought I came up with while being reminded of the anciently foreseen dream the soul king had. Yhwach, his son, killed him as his dream dictated. Yhwach, while soul king, dreamed about Ichigo "his son" killing him.
With the new hell arc and kazui opening gates to hell ( I think?) I wonder if that’ll come into effect

He didn’t beat him that’s a bullshit narrative. He didn’t read the official translation as you can see he doesn’t have the actual novel in this video. The official translation just says Yama was apart of the battle. They also did have their Zanpaktou, I hear the idea they didn’t was based on a mistranslation. Ichibei having his confirms they did because RJ is stated to be the oldest Zanpaktou in the Manga when it’s first introduced. Yama, Nimaiya, and one other random character no one cares about defeated the Hollow. Ichibei just rewrites their name afterwards. Another misconception from mistranslation is Ichibei being a million years old or whatever. He was not around when the SK first came into existence, he was talking about another Shinigami being there and the translator did it as him talking about himself. Yama and Ginrei are the oldest Shinigami, Ichibei was only around in the original world but this in no ways makes him older than Yama. Squad 0 aren’t immortal or eternally young they just can be healed if they’re killed
I loved the twist when Hirako used his shikai on Hisagi to prevent him from seeing Kyoka Suigetsu release right before his eyes. Too often manga/anime "tactics" come down to just each side taking turns showing off their new abilities - while for me the most satisfying fights are those where instead already established abilities are used in clever and creative ways.
Wished Grimmjow and Ginjo had a scene interacting with Ichigo.
I think Tokinada being killed by a nameless assassin is ironic as the man who tried to make a god is killed by some random assassin. He tried so hard to be a torrential force in the history books and he died to what can be written off as politics between the aristocracy.
It was poetic. It's also ironic that the assassin had such a strongly negative reaction to the killing, thought it was certainly Tokinada laughing like a lunatic at it all. He died as he lived, literally.
This is the video that I was waiting for, after all the story said and all the lore that make this great, one thing that makes Hikone way more interesting is that as he combines everything makes me thing if ichigo could do that, if ichigo with his powers controlled could go jumping from abilities using the one he needs or if he uses them without thinking and all that he could do
I'd argue the two prior kenpachi HAVE to be overkill or it would seem weird for them better the name. If they were scaled to the average captain, I think that would be a tad lackluster. Many of them got their positions by slaying the previous one.

The title of kenpachi is given to overpowered death gods. Of caurse they are overpowered it's in thier name.
Nah it's definitely inconsistent. Zaraki killed the previous Kenpachi and this Zaraki scales/jobbed to shikai Ichigo.
@@chavaspada I feel like this situation was more or less explained. Dude basically gimped himself hardcore due to his eyepatch and mental block to make sure he could match his opponents.
Ichigo wasn't necessarily weak himself so it isn't the worst jobbing situation. Ichigo's power output seemed to wildly fluctuate and he got a whole boost during his fight with Kenpachi.
I feel it's fairly obvious that the part about Urahara's true reason for creating the Hogyoku is tied into his backstory which was told to Narita by Kubo. Hopefully we get to see that backstory some day. Also it has been confirmed by Kubo that Urahara lied about his reasons for putting the Hogyoku in Rukia; I don't think it's particularly unlikely to believe he lied about his reasons for creating it in TBTP.
Kubo originally wanted Kiskuke to be the original main villian and it makes sense. Really the Shinigami are the true villians of the story of Bleach and the organization as a whole are evil and corrupt.

Given Gin betrayed Aizen, I think the idea was very much to make Tosen the *real* confidant, real 2nd in command.
And Aizen also knew Gin was aiming to betray him since the beginning

It was rather jarring seeing Yoruichi want to 'silence' Hisagi at the end, especially with the menacing and paranoid tone she espouses. Then you remember she's a noble and an assassin who certainly ended many lives to keep the aristocracy's secrets hidden during her time leading the Stealth Force. Though to be fair the tone of that conversation she and Kisuke shared implies that they want more honorable people to be the arbiters of change and to pick up from where they only followed orders and obeyed, especially as far as Kisuke is concerned.
Just goes to show Aizen and Tokinada are right.

I think it's weird that Mayuri pick some the weakest Sternritter to be in his Corpse Unit when he could have gone for the characters like Askin and Hashwalth but at the same time he did the exact same thing with the Arrancar and didn't revive a single Espada so maybe Mayuri for some reason goes for the weak ones on purpose.
Controlling balance or deathdealing with electricity would be close to impossible.
idk, i don’t mind the fake dual wielding zanpakutos. it isn’t necessary, but it doesn’t really hurt anything.
what i do like is hisagi’s zanpakuto being the chain. i like it because it means hisagi didn’t truly understand his zanpakuto, and neither did us.

Good vid, but I disagree with your take on Kenpachi. I feel him being overpowered helps to contextualize from others' pov how monstrously powerful he can be. More importantly though, i view him whipping Hikone around and defeating ikomikidomoe as actually vital to the story. I will concede that it may be a little heavy handed, but, narratively speaking, Kenpachi is really there to teach Hikone a lesson: that there are people he simply cannot defeat. This is especially poignant after Tokinada sics him on his Aura, his mother figure, and leaves him for dead. The two things Hikone knew how to do were serve Tokinada and do battle, and both of these things just crumbled before Hikone's very eyes; his worldview has shattered. This is when Shuhei steps in and uses his Bankai to really show Hikone that sometimes you are totally helpless and there's nothing you can do but humble yourself. The reason Kenpachi cuts down ikomikidomoe is because the story isn't supposed to be about Shunsui and the gotei fighting a giant hollow in the valley of screams, it's about Shuhei maturing and accepting the part of him that his zanpakuto is, and he truly embraces that by showing Hikone his bankai. Shuhei's development is complete after he sets Hikone on the right path and is even offered the pathway to captainhood following the story, showing that his journey is complete; he used his Bankai for the first time, not to kill, but to teach and to bring life to Hikone who now sees there is so much more to life than serving and killing. Ultimately I think Kenpachi played a really crucial role in making that happen, if not him then maybe Shunsui or Urahara, but I really don't think the story should've been Shuhei saving the day with a bankai perfectly suited to defeating Hikone after everyone else failed.
Tommo clearly dislikes Kenpachi, he's in that high brown group of Bleach fans. I really like Tommo's videos, prolly the best Bleach youtube out there, such a shame it had to be one that doesn't like Kenpachi

tbh as someone who's admittedly not the biggest kenpachi fan (used to love the character, but as time went on the lack of character development and explanation behind his monstrous strength began to bug me more and more), i did read this in much the same way as Tommo - it seemed it was almost put there as if to say "don't worry guys kenny is still the strongest". Think Hikone could just as easily have learned the same lesson you mention from Shuhei's Bankai alone, without needing (very well-written!) replies like yours needing to try and explain Kenny's inclusion - i could just as easily ask why being beaten down by kenny wouldn't have just motivated a simple mind like Hikone to get stronger as happens all the time in shounen anime...
Again, if we knew just why kenpachi is casually slapping around mini soul kings then i wouldn't necessarily mind this - perhaps his demonic bankai form will be revealed as some kind of link to the mysterious hell dimension in the upcoming arc, who knows! But currently its a little jarring and he does function more as a useful "character i can scale without explanation to however strong the villain is or more" plot device imo.
That said, obviously if you are a zaraki fan you would love the stomp, and he is a hugely popular character so i'm sure my opinion on this isn't too common. Just thought i'd reply as i thought you wrote a really well-thought out reply (despite me ostensibly disagreeing with you on your main point)

Agreed. Even the surviving Quincies have changed for the better living among humans they would've generally looked down upon under Yhwach. It can be said that Soul Society's current reforms are fear induced, a bigger fish nearly devoured them, though there are legitimate idealists who truly believe in doing good.

Tokinada's death was pure karma. More so since it was at the hands of the relative of the assassins Tokinada savagely butchered in part 1. Sure being assassins they don't warrant sympathy for obvious reasons, but what he did to them was ghastly and drove home what a maniac he was.
Yo, squad 12? The stalth squads job is to kill and silence people, there is no reason to be little them if yoroichi and soi fon are treated normally.

I think zaraki is one of the strongest captains, so it's only natural that they would take him to battle someone like hikone & ikkomikidomo since they mostly fight with brute strength too, shinji literally said in the manga that if zaraki dies they'll lose the war, i think that's because of the asset he is to the soul society, not to mention that unohanna said zaraki gets stronger with every battle so aftet his tybw battles we didn't get an idea on how strong he had become and this help put things in perspective.
Hey Tommo another amazing video. Always love hearing your thoughts. I wanted to try to maybe shed some light on Hisagi's continued loyalty to Tosen. I actually hope you end up doing a full character analysis on Kaname Tosen at some point, because I think he's actually quite nuanced despite his lower popularity when compared to Gin and Aizen. I think that kinda plays into why Hisagi feels the way he does about him. The idea that his time spent with Tosen and the lessons and morals he learned from him were not lies despite Tosen's actions. I think the tears that Tosen cries for Sajin Hisagi and Himself at the end of his life were real. In CFYOW volume 1 we learn that aizen chose to end Tosen's life because Tosen made Aizen promise to do so should he ever find peace among the soul society. Something he beleived would be an insult to Kakyo's memory since the soul society did nothing to punish her killer due to his royal status. He was a very genuine man in my opinion. Kensei has every right to resnt him for the betrayal. But just as easily, Hisagi has every right to defend the captain who taught him to be a shinigami.

The Soul King stuff is so interesting. Maybe he felt bad for disrupting the balance of the world he let them use him to maintain it after? Pretty crazy what he let those five do to him either way.
Perhaps he truly believed he was helping in making a better world, then the ancestors pulled a fast one and basically seized power. No wonder anyone who finds out about this is horrified and disgusted.

What if Nimaiya and Ichibe "create" zanpakuto spirits like that. The two of them could come across a hollow with interesting abilities.. Ichibe could assign it a name and Nimaiya would then give it a form by way of an asauchi..and presto!

Tosen always seemed like a Hinamori to me. Just how Aizen disposed of her when he was done playing, he did the same with Kaname and Gin. He softened after being defeated and I like that. But trying to retcon him as always having hidden soft side doesn't sit right with me either

To be fair, Tosen and Gin were always his comrades with the same goal as him so him actually caring for those two makes sense because they knew the true him and accepted him. Anyone else who knew his goals would immediately go against him.

I remember when Ichigo learned of the true nature of his zanpakto in the original manga my take away was no one really has two zanpakutō or a constant release shikai.

Kenpachi vs Grimmjow (and Yammy and Edrad) did happen in the story of the Bleach 3rd Phantom DS game, which was written by Kubo.
It's entirely reasonable to tie the Hogyoku scientific research to the Soul King, considering he was the perfect model as he was a mix of Quincy, Shinigami, and Hollow.
I really really loved it! I took my time but once the Tokinada unleashed Kyoka Suigetsu I read it until the end. There were a lot of things that I really appreciate about the book and there were ones you mentioned I didn't even remember, and its amazing.
IN particular, I really like the theories of Kisuke being a bad guy, and part of the last noble family (kept secret by notion of Kubo I think)

Yama stated no Shinigami has been stronger than him for 1000 years, he didn’t say born he said emerged meaning he’s literally just calling himself top dog. Base Aizen is also stronger than Ichibei as the only thing about Yama Aizen feared was his flame. These are 2 characters who don’t overestimate their abilities because they have no need to (save for when the Hogyoku corrupts Aizen’s mind against Ichigo but the Yama interaction was before that). Ichibei is versatile and hax but he can’t do anything against Yama’s flames or avoid Aizen’s blade going through his heart after wasting his time fighting an illusion
Just imagine two possible soul kings and both substitute shinigami whom the soul society was monitoring all along
Weird - I completely forgot about soul suicide and always assumed that Aizen mercy killed Tosen which angered Hisagi and dog-cap. I also thought that Tosen wanted Aizen to remove him from the cycle of reincarnation - not just kill him. I loved the extra background.
In the anime, it seems like Aizen mercy killing him is more likely and is supported by Komamura yelling Aizen. Hard to deny it. I get the soul suicide part, but I still believe Aizen mercy kill is what actually happebed

Aizen grinning at Kamamura could have been a trick of camera angles to make the audience think that Aizen was looking at him. But would it be possible that Aizen was actually looking at Tosen reveling in a comrades request to be fulfilled(Being the old Tosen, as a comrade)? (in some twisted sense) Forgive me, I haven't read CFYOW. Just spit balling. and the thing about soul suicide might have had something to do with Aizen doing his own thing with Tosen like what Kisuke did with Masake just a little different.

with kenpachi it's understandable he's the monster he is, he was already god mode powerful in the blood war, then you take into consideration this timeskip so he's trained and fought even more since then ( training with his full power instead of holding back anymore ) so.. i think it's fine he just insta kills w/e is in his way, it's his character development, they arent worthy so they get 1 shot.
Something being overblown and feeling like it was made by a fan is honestly what I really like in Narita's other work for another franchise, Fate/Strange Fake.
It has a really similar approach to stuff that Narita wrote for Bleach where he takes a small pieces out of much bigger Universe and starts to expand on them in completely insane directions.
Ask any Fate fan that read F/SF and they will say that it's crazy, but at the same time it's full of reference and nods to previous works/events/characters and such.
I like how enthusiastic Narita about his Bleach stuff, even if it sometimes borders on fanfiction, but for me its a selling point rather than something detrimental.
Fate is series that says every character is a omnipotent but never shows it.

Tokinada ordered the hit on his family and himself to hide that he planned on killing his family. The way you're supposed to see his death by an unknown assassin is that karma has come to take him in a way opposite of his great ambitions. He was killed by someone who's name will never be known, in a place where no one can see it. He also brought on his own demise despite all of his planning and there was no one he could drag down with him.
Tokinada and Aizen are right and the Shinigami are the ultimate villians of the story of Bleach. That has been plain as day since the Soul Society arc. Tokinada has done nothing the Shinigami themselves haven't done, continue to do, and will do in the future to cover up their sin and force suffering and hardship on all beings and souls while benefitting themselves and no one else. They don't care about anyone or anything except getting stronger and hiding their secrets. Just look at how they treat the Rukongi. They are the Ultimate villians of Bleach and Tokinada simply wanted to expose them for what they are.
