    At work we use prados and i can tell you by the seat of the pants the newer version feel better everywhere, even the suspension feels better, could be because they are brand new but if i was in the market the newer versions would be my money.

    We bought a 2018 Prado and tow a van a fair bit as well as highway runs. Agree about converter lock not the best. Love 6th gear when not towing. Bloody economical and we love it. As for constantly banging on about 2755 cc, back off me thinks. Plenty smaller capacity diesels live a long life if R and D was done properly. Time will tell if Toyota's put in the hard yards with its testing.

      Come on Anthony. You don't need to write like that. Its your TH-cam channel and you can say and do as you please but at least respect other people's opinions as well. We're not kids at primary school. Thomas made some good valid points re his Prado which is why we watch your channels and read the comments. I don't think he really had bad things to say in general other that you bang on a bit about the Prado,s small capacity engine, which you do. Take it on the chin, be happy and lets all get along aye.

      Quick reminder for everyone the 2755 mL engine is well undersized for the size of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and I will not stop banging on about it this is the comment that I disagree with I don’t have any issue with any part of the reply you tell me what to do and you might get a reply like that so if you don’t like the reply don’t make the comment

    Awesome video of the new donk Anthony, The latest 1GD is definitely better on the highway and towing then the older 1GD. 2755cc is small, but at least it's not the Ford 2 litre 4 banger, now that's a stressed engine.

    I have just received a new Prado two weeks ago and was expecting a bit more performance with all the hype over the new engine improvements claiming 150kw. My previous car (for 8 years) was a Nissan Pathfinder with 140kw. The Prado is much quieter and smoother, but I was expecting it to feel a bit peppier than the Pathfinder.
    I think in a straight out drag race the Pathfinder would win and overall the Prado feels far more ponderous and slower reacting than the Nissan and so far uses more fuel. But definitely overall I am extremely happy.

    Hey Anthony, just watching this again, almost a year after the first time. Your comments at 30:59 to 31:07 about inflation and interest rates have proved to be highly prophetic! And said at the time with passion and concern! If only the Governor of the RBA had watched this video (to the end) then perhaps we wouldn't be in such a mess right now! It just proves, every one should watch you videos to the end! Valuable advice to the last drop!

    The new cylinder head has a redesigned water jacket to improve cooling, and the cylinder block has been made more rigid to accommodate the higher engine performance. Pistons and piston rings have been redesigned, and there is a new cooling fan and coupling. 2021 engine...There’s also a new head gasket for this more powerful engine, presumably done to handle the increased amount of boost that this engine develops.good stuff..,,,,......

    Bought a new 21 GXL Prado a few months ago. Having driven the old one it is clearly better BUT the vehicle had a significant (a word to describe it is difficult) issue in the gear box or drive train at about 1500 RPM, 57-59km/h. Almost feels like the gearbox/driveshaft is slipping which creates a clear vibration in the driver train. I've had it back to the dealer numerous times and was told "It is a driving characteristic of the vehicle" But they did say they had noticed it in other vehicles and will send the diagnostic to Japan. Almost feels like the gearbox needed to down shift instead of using the higher gear. Im know mechanic so be interested to hear yours and other opinions. Great content.

    • @Fourby4Diesel
      @Fourby4Diesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a software update but I’m not getting it I like it staying locked yes it’s on hills on the 60 km it’s a shudder because the gear is a little bit too high push the pedal a bit harder it will kick down or slip it across into third manually I’m not going to risk this perfect software being removed from my vehicle as I’ve discussed in videos which you’ve obviously missed some people think this is a problem but there’s always a fine balance to keep everybody happy

    A youtube reviewer compared acceleration runs in the pre and post revamped 2.7 and found the new model reduced the 0-100 from 14 to 10 seconds, which is a significant reduction, but it obviously aint no hot rod. I have a new Prado and the engine characteristics compare very favourably against my 3.2 Ranger. The Prado feels a lot more responsive, and the Ranger 6 speed is garbage but has great step-off from standing start (probably why they have disposable gearboxes). I think the throttle delay from standing in Prado is a drivetrain protection feature to reduce load on the drivetrain off the line.

Incidentally, I spoke to a GX owner in the shopping centre and he said he believes there is slight difference in the first 5-10 mins in the car after being parked in a very hot day, but after that makes no difference to 2nd row passengers ( compare to his friends gxl)

    The gearbox in this thing really is a joke. Terribly set up. It’s like they never drove it when doing real world calibration and doesn’t utilise the engine upgrade. IMO this update overall is a lazy effort by Toyota. If I knew what I know now back at upgrade time (had 1KD, 2015) would I have bought a new one? No, definitely not. Lesson here is not to assume the new is better than the old and to have an overnight test drive to get a real feel for the car.
