Looking at English legends and myths, (I know that Robb is based on both the real Marquis of Montrose & young Edward IV), I sometimes wonder if his story parallels Robin Hood. It was GreatJon Umber that first got me thinking about this (wondering both at his name sounding like an invert of Little John & his son SmallJon Umber), but then I began to think about other aspects of Robin Hood's story - he ambushes and surprises his enemies, he fights against an unjust ruler (Prince/King John) and is literally bled to death by someone holding an old grudge against his family (in Robin's case, a nun from a family disinherited by his father [?]). Does this seem like a plausible theory to anybody?
A man in dark armor and a pale pink cloak spotted with blood stepped up to Robb. "Jaime Lannister sends his regards." He thrust his longsword through her son's heart, and twisted.
I never understood why The Greatjon jumped up and declared Robb King in the North. Ned also rebelled against the Iron Throne when the King killed HIS father and brother but he never tried to become a King even though I'm sure Robert would have been cool with it so long as they had an alliance. So why this time? It makes me think the Northmen were just looking to secede from the seven kingdoms and using Robb.
at this point in time. they can't side with Renly because it is illegal and they'd be joining an usurper. second they can't bend to Joffery as he just killed Lord Ned Stark. Stannis Baratheon hasn't even declared himself king yet which makes the whole secession bit the logical choice. the riverlands join the cause for the recent victories and declare him king of the trident. had stannis been a king at this point he'd be the logical choice to follow.
If I were Robb, I would've had gone dirty with Talisa Maegyr and then would've gone ahead and married a Frey girl. Talisa wasn't of noble birth, she would understand it, a child born to them would be like Jon, so people would've said to Robb 'like father like son', and the Frey girl would've been okay coz her daddy's the most lecherous man in Westeros. @@huntermaurice1562 Honestly idk how we can live without *invention* honestly.
robb is definitley going down one of the best a song of ice and fire characters
Rob Stark was hands down the best part of the show. He should've been king just out of sher will. He was thrown into a situation where he had to lead. He did that. Captured the kingslayer, out smarted tywin and raised a massive army. I hated seeing him go. Especially like that
“Boy Lords are the bane of any house” - Roose
Watching this brings the desire to reread the books, again. For the 6th time. :)
I feel you there. 6th time, or whatever. I'm not counting. It's like rereading Lord of the Rings. If I'd kept count, it would be up in the "Incurably Nerdy" range.
My favorite character in the series. Was so sad to see him go so soon, wanted to see a lot more of him. :'(
Robb was one of the few i hated to see die… Robb, Danny, Ned, The Dorne dude Oberyn, n a few more deaths were truly devastating.. Robb’s being one of em.
Jon and Daenerys probably could have definitely used Robb's genius tacticial abilities at the Battle of Winterfell
Scottish history is just so gritty and full of betrayal, I love it.
their is a pub in the Lochaber area of the highlands that has a mat at the front door that says no dogs , no Campbells allowed
Long before I had even watched Game of Thrones, I had seen videos online of fan reactions to a specific Game of Thrones episode. Their reactions were essentially shock, horror, dismay, and tears. I didn't know it at the time but that episode was The Red Wedding. I knew it the very moment that I witnessed that very same episode. It was devastating.
Q: How do you get ideas like the brutality of the red wedding?
A: History
Robb was my favorite character in the whole show
Catelyn hearing the 'The Rains of Castamere' is powerful... she knows what's coming but poor Robb doesn't have a clue!
I just finished reading Dance and man did Quentyn Martell remind me of Robb. Both awesome characters of course.
Quentyn seems more unsure of himself but I see some similarities there
@@manofhonor1685 I was talking about *spoilers* their tragic end. Both try to do what they think is right and fail.
In any other story they would be the triumphant heroes but Martin makes them tragic figures.
Toasty! 😭

Preston Jacobs theorized he is alive. His remaining companoins acted weird and all.
I never get how hard I wanted to cry during the red wedding
'James II of Scotland' *shows picture of James VII.*
Sociobiologist I caught that too, that was pretty confusing.
Indeed, just because he was James II of England, does not make him James II of Scotland?!?!
@@danielde7542 James II of Scotland is not the same James II of England. James II of England is James VII of Scotland, as James VI of Scotland was the first Scottish King of England (James I). His true name was James I and VI of England and Scotland as was James II and VII of England and Scotland.
@@VeriganXO GODS so many James, but thanks for the info
George R.R. Martin is one of the best writers of all time. The way he take so many inspirations from history is just ugh 😩😩.
Ikr
He wrote one good book and completely lost the thread on his series.
@@alphanerd7221 All of the books are great
@@hunterhorsehelmsley7315 None of them are. The first one is really good. The second two are okay, and then the whole thing falls apart with occasional good chapters.
@@alphanerd7221 Nah
"Love is the death of duty." This has so many interpretations in the show and is true in real life as well. Maester Aemon was truly a exceptional character
The picture of James II is incorrect. It is of James VII not James II. The confusion arises from the fact that James VII was also James II of England.
Ah good, I thought I realized this, that that portrait of a late medieval king looks rather early modern 😂😂
so dumb, I noticed that as well, I was like there's no way that's a painting of an early 15th century king
I can’t stop watching his interviews, he has the most likable personality I’ve seem
Robb is my favorite character, followed by Ned
Me too, Ned, Robb and for me the third place is Theon. He has by far one of the best Story arcs in my opinion
In the book , i love when Robb Stark tell his mother he want John to succeed him if he die on the battlefield
this show was so good it's so sad what happened to it
If his mother didn't duck him over by releasing jaime then maybe Robb would have won
The only thing that pissed Roose Bolton off more than Robb ignoring him at every turn was Robb winning every time he did too.
My god I can’t believe there are people who have never seen this show
From someone who never read the books at this point, the red wedding was the most(and still is) shocking thing I have ever seen from any TV show or movie. I actually couldnt believe it, I didn't say a word for about a hour afterwards.
I’d like to think Robb would have been happy to see Jon take the throne, but disappointed he lost it to Dany. Robb was the better king, he had been poised to lead his entire life and understood what it meant. His leadership moment came at a bad time as he was angry over the death of his father.
I think Jon and Robb would have been unstoppable together, Robb being a great king and Jon being in charge of the army.
Wow this video is 3 yrs old? And less than 10 comments? Edward IV was inspiration for Robb? 😮
Me and my boyfriend are planning on, when we marry, to play The Rains of Castamere during the celebrations. Just for laughs tbh XD
My brother had this song play in his wedding, it’s so worth it I hope you get to play it in your wedding
you should have the band members pull out nerf crossbows and shoot everyone when they do this.
The character I prefer in all this story. His team with the Blackfish made Westeros shake against all odds. If Theon didn't failed him, provoking the chain of events that made him fall for Jeyne Westerling, who knows what he would have made...

2:17 that's James II of England/ VII of Scotland.
James II of Scotland was different.
Well spotted
I never get tired of hearing the king in the north gets me hype everytime
Robb was the only Stark I could stand, and when he died, I think a little of my faith in the show/books went with it lmaoo
Jon’s another one I like, but Sansa’s the absolute worst. Arya and Bran became awful, and Rickon was just a child.
@@mr.k418 show or books?
I just want to see how Rickon turns out in the book.
@@mr.k418 Sansa gets better for me in season 6 to then point where she’s pretty cool. I really enjoyed Arya’s character all through the show but I don’t think we got enough time with Bran to really like him much
Man this show was so good for half a decade.
Really good video & very informative.
However, when you refer to James II of Scotland you actually show a picture of James VII of Scotland, who also reigned as James II of England.
When I was in the Army during the early 2010s we had a Campbell and a MacDonald posted to the same unit. After the very first roll call they were involved in a fight broke out between them. They beat each other bloody. After they sorted that out, they became the best of friends and would not tolerate anyone else insulting the other.
"I can talk about that bastard as I please, you will not."
The inspiration for Robb Stark was the red shirts in Star Trek.
Red shirts means they have no name and no personalities. They're just extras. So, no.
Season 1-4 and arguably 5 and 6 were fantastic.
Yh I’d say 5 and 6 are still amazing
But 7 and 8 fuck me what a shambles
Not sure how I feel about my country’s history being so bloody that it was the baseline for one of the most brutal shows of all time.
Rob stark was a Badass I wish he would have stayed around longer
What is that woman taking about lol would be Rob, Bran and then Rickon in a line before Sansa and Arya if it was in order of importance or succession
My favorite Character on the series.
3:50 in the book this scene takes place on top of The Wall. Why the hell didn't they keep that in the TV series?
Robb Stark reminds me a lot of Carolus rex, a Swedish king who ascended to the throne at the age of 15, he fought against Russia and Prussia and beat them again and again, outnumbered most of the time, through stragetty, but eventually still lost the war and his life at the age of 36 despite winning most of the battles. Just like Robb they both came from nation up in the north.
3:46 something similar happened in Native history of Haiti, at the time of the Spaniards' conquest...they invited queen Anacaona (a Native woman) to a meeting or something, maybe to a banquet, and they killed her and her men...don't remember how, but a fire was involved, they might have locked them in a house and burned it down...
4:02 I watched all of Game of Thrones (before 2008's John Adams' miniseries), but I only just noticed that guy is the same guy from the John Adams miniseries who played Thomas Jefferson...
Ok, looks like she didn't die in that ambush...and that the whole thing is doubted by historians...
Lancaster is my home town to know that the war of the roses a story my grandparents tell all the time, and many other British events over decades inspired one if not the greatest book/TV series ever!!
If only Dave and Dan knew any history.
He’s my KING IN THE NORTH 🤴🏻🐺

Grrm accent is the best.. I adore him when he speaks.. I already watched all his interviews😌💯
It makes me think the Northmen were just looking to secede from the seven kingdoms and using Robb.
i dont think robert would've been okay with it.
at this point in time. they can't side with Renly because it is illegal and they'd be joining an usurper. second they can't bend to Joffery as he just killed Lord Ned Stark. Stannis Baratheon hasn't even declared himself king yet which makes the whole secession bit the logical choice. the riverlands join the cause for the recent victories and declare him king of the trident. had stannis been a king at this point he'd be the logical choice to follow.
The picture meant to show James II of Scotland actually shows James II of England (aka James VII of Scotland).
He reminds me king Charles XII
The IRL Swedish king had been defeated on the battlefield. Robb never was.
@@warmike obviously it's not a complete 1 for 1 similarity
The red wedding sounds a lot like the blood bath of Stockholm
If I were Robb, I would've had gone dirty with Talisa Maegyr and then would've gone ahead and married a Frey girl. Talisa wasn't of noble birth, she would understand it, a child born to them would be like Jon, so people would've said to Robb 'like father like son', and the Frey girl would've been okay coz her daddy's the most lecherous man in Westeros.
Call me a pig, but pig's live longer than wolves apparently.
Talisa is from lesser house but it doesn't mean that she is not a Nobel.. all the houses big or small are considered to be Nobel.
@@PraveenKumar-hu4xf she is not even from Westeros in the show, in the books she is from the Westerlands. So as long as the show is considered who's is gonna know in far flung Essos about their daughter, noble or not.

I like how they include the scene where a random guy just brings out a tray of bread and salt, right at the doorstep.
Interesting stuff.
2:19 Picture of wrong James II there. You got the English one [King 1685 - 1688].
Which was really obvious from the 17th century fashion. What a blunder.

Robb was my hero best character in the show as well as stannis
I remember watching this show for the first time with a girl I was dating at the time and my roommate. I had heard about the red wedding. Didn't know what it was. We get to the episode and I watch it and they both look at me for my reaction and I just say "I don't wanna watch this stupid show anymore" super upset. They then pointed out there was one more episode in the season and asked "don't you wanna see the season finale?" And I said yes and watched the show.
@MestizoMarquez season 8? What are you talking about. Season 8 NEVER CAME OUT
@MestizoMarquez It ended after S4
Edward 4th is my favorite historical figure, loved Rob too
So Robb Stark's real life inspiration was successful and lived prosperously? So Robb could have had this ending without issue? This makes me hate what GRRM did to his character even more.
Edward the 4th is also based on robert baratheon
I descend from the MacDonald family that George brought up as the inspiration for the Red Wedding. Actually cool that he wrote about that. 3:00
