This album is villainous. This level of craziness can be therapy for some people tho, Em included I'm pretty sure. It lets you spaz out for a bit, let out some rage and frustration. Kinda does the same shit some heavier metal music can. We all got a little crazy in us, gotta let that shit out in a healthy way sometimes. Plus he's rhyming his damn ass off on this album. You had to be there. This was meant to go against the grain of what was out in the industry at the time. It was not meant to be relatable in a literal sense. But there is a track on here called the real slim shady where he literally says -
"I'm like a head trip to listen to, 'cause I'm only givin' you
Things you joke about with your friends inside your livin' room
The only difference is I got the balls to say it in front of y'all

No, he never met his father. His parents were in a band together and they split up while he was a baby. He sent letters as a child that all came back unopened. When he became famous his father tried to get in touch to say he was proud, but EMINEM said she didn’t need his approval and refused to see him or speak to him. After he died EM refused to go to the funeral and on Music To Be Murdered By he made a track saying he wanted to dig him up and spit in his face and his family tried to sue him for the song, but the judge threw the case out. I was in third grade when this album came out and I discovered EMINEM with ENCORE when I was in seventh grade.

When I was around 13 I started to understand how crazy this shit was I understood the attacks he was gettin from the public and the government. But I really didn't care how outrageous these songs were. I was more amazed by how great of a thing the freedom of speech you guys have in USA. I still do tbh. Eminem also talk to everyone, to just LEAVE HIM THE F ALONE. 🤷🏻‍♀️
As we already know, his 'Slim' persona is one of his 3 one... Through in *My Darling* it looks, he got 4th persona close to Antichrist/Satan/Demon himself. 🤷🏻‍♀️
But at time, he got himself just those 3. Also, switching between so many personas, dealing with so many emotions, is hard in itself... And his life is NEVERENDING ROLLER COASTER, full of so much negativity since born, that it is miracle, he did not got crazy... At least OUTRIGHT CRAZY. Songs are way of channelling all those intensive feelings and verbalizing them help him get rid of them. 🙃

He thinks like the most of the people and he just write it on the songs.

Everything from being a wanna be black rapper, to a will be forgotten rapper because he'll run out of stuff to rap about. He put all he could in this album to run it in the music industry's face that he could say anything he wanted and get away with it. Needless to say, he was right lol.

Bruh our parents were disconnected. We were miles away from them in the woods literally miles away. They had no idea what we were doing as long as we came home for dinner. I know it sounds ridiculous now but I was literally riding my bike an hour across town building a fort in the woods and we came home for dinner and our parents asked us no questions because we came back and were safe. The world was just like that.

If you think his lyrics are bad look up ICP. They’re not in the same category but are equally shocking in their lyrics. Korn was also shocking when it comes to the lyrics. Eminem bridged the gap for a lot of us who liked heavy metal and crazy music and rap too. Eminem raised a whole generation of white kids who turned into powerful outspoken people in my experience.

Keep in mind, just like with movies, they had parental advisory on albums. Kids shouldn't be able 2 buy without parents consent.
But, regardless, if you're raised right, you know right from wrong & listening to music or watching movies aren't gonna make you recreate the ish.

Man I wish I could explain. I was a 11 when I first started listen. 2001 and from the Midwest (Missouri). I see you also have a lot of people telling you about Tech too. (Comment for the not alike video) So let me try my best to give you some background back In 2001’s Midwest America. I can’t say this is for all Midwest but for Missouri for sure.
    1. 1990-2010 was the highest percentage of kids taken into foster care
    2. Abuse was just starting to her out as being wrong. Mental health not a huge thing yet.
    3. This same time both parents had to work to support the house so kids were left home alone after school everyday and home all day alone when no school.
    4. You have 9/11
    5. DARE was forced in school in 4th and 5th grade that back fired. Instead of stopping drug use it introduced it at a younger age along with providing ways to obtain these drugs.
    7. The introduction of BET & MTV
I mean the above is just some of the things and you add it all together you get pissed off, rebellious kids/teens, that wanted to fight against parents way of life.
What ems music introduced and how it effects now
    1. Freedom of speech in songs
    2. Rap is now mainstream and available on the radio.
    3. Open interstate communication about abusive parents, abusive partner, and mental health
    4. Open communication about Political topics that were never talked about such as the racial divide, the American wars, LGBTQ, government corruption and many more! (These weren’t talked about in this area at the time other than “it’s bad”, “not true”, or some other excuse. It was seriously a time where it was so as I say believe what I say) for instance 9/11 happened we watched it all day in 6th grade! All day over and over again. Got back to my Christian group home and was told “so something bad happened today. I don’t want you guys to worry because whatever happens is Gods will. You don’t have to worry because if they attack again we will be the target since we are the center of the US and it will be a quick death” and was made to pray for my salvation!!! That is what we were dealing with and I say we because again in MO this was the way.
So how at 11 how I related was; I was abused and thrown in foster care @5, 7 & again 10 . I hated my life, i hated everyone as I was moved around all the time and didn’t stay anywhere long to make friends. (Sound similar to his songs?)
2014-I was adopted at 14 and hate my adopted mom (intro cleaning out my closet). My adopted parents fought back with me on my music choice calling to devils music. You know because everything is about God in the Bible Belt
2016-They kicked me out at 16. Drove me a hour away from their house and dropped me off with nothing.
Found a program to help me get my GED so I could try to support myself.
2017-Got with an abusive BF-ran the streets-drugs you know
Come 18 (2008) had a kid. decided I didn’t want that life anymore! Went and got counseling and went and got a college education! Today I am a happily married mom and supporter of my family. (Still don’t talk to my adopted family)
What he gave me was an escape to not act on my feelings. I never felt alone in the world listening to his music. Someone else understands! But also the knowing I could get out!!! I’m alive because of him!
Fast forward through adult hood. I have grown up with his music. I say it like that vs I grew up with Em is because idk when the songs were actually written just when they dropped on his albums.

Yeah, Eminem was extremely rough around the edges when he first became famous back in the late 90's. He had a lot of issues and aggression to work out and music helps people do that. He finally calmed down after a few years and started rapping about nicer things. I loved him from the moment his first song came out, though. I'm not saying he wasn't still negative in some of his raps. He was, but not to the extreme when he first became famous. I still love his style, regardless.

His first slim shady LP got so much backlash for the lyrics that when he dropped this follow up album, he went out of his way to really say things to really piss off the critics even more on purpose. Some of it was real but a lot of it was tongue n cheek. But in the end it was to make the critics more mad. Basically if they want to take everything literal, then he’s going to double down and say the worst shit he can think of.

The thing is, 11 and 12 years olds got the joke and understood without being told, that he was not being literal. It was really rude and really funny. Like the loudest, smelliest fart in church. It was just wrong on so many levels but whether people would like to admit it, he just spit it better than 90% of rappers out there.
I like this album because of where it fits in context. Slim Shady LP was a huge hit and I think no one was as surprised as Em. The sudden switch from begging people to take him seriously to having a legion of very loyal but insane fans. I mean, you don’t have to be insane to like Eminem but if you happen to be antisocial and crazy back then, Eminem would probably be your favorite rapper

  • @crystal6368

You just asked why we love & relate to him so hard because he’s villainous and how did we relate? Let me explain at least how was for me..
I grew up super poor, drug dealer dad, meth head mom. My mom & dad named is Crystal because my mom was on meth for the first 6 months of her pregnancy with me because she didn’t know she was pregnant. So dad got busted for dealing drugs, went to prison, mom had mental health break downs (she was bipolar & schizophrenic) and me & my sister got taken away. My great grandma took us in but our great uncle lived there too & he was old af like 50 or some shit (I was 5 so he seemed old af is all I know) anyway he drugged us & SA’d us almost every night for 2 years. That came out. We got put back with our mom until she relapsed and had another drug induced mental break down. We got taken away again and put into foster care.
All this happened before I was 8- so at 8 years old I remember being in my room in my new foster home. I turned on the tv and was just trying to be ok. I had no friends, was chubby, bullied, poor, in a new town in a new home with strangers. I turned on the tv & Eminem’s “hi my name is” came on. It distracted me from my life. I got my hands on a copy of the slim shady LP on cassette tape & I put it on, listened to it start to finish & it was everything for me. When I was scared or sad or angry, When I wanted to scream or cry or run or die, I would just listen to Eminem & he got me through my whole life. It was so cathartic & comforting to hear him rap about how shitty his mom was, how hard his life was, how poor and shitty life is, how other people steal and shit. That song “rock bottom” got me through a lot of shit. And then other ones like “under the influence” gave me words to keep in my head to get through times I was being bullied.
So imagine being so hurt and angry and scared and not knowing if you’re gonna be ok. Then you put this shit on and just RAGE inside. And it made everything better. I’ll forever Stan Em. And I know this comment is long af- and Ik my childhood was hell but the thing is- I think A LOT of people had a really hard fucking childhood and this shit just helped us. And how popular he got- I think it helped us realize there were a TON of us going through it & somehow that helped.
