Then I cut a 1 1/4 inches off the length of the body of the missile. I Glued the head back on to what was left. It sticks out about a half inch from the launcher now and it shoots twice as far (which wasn't far to begin with).
I’ve always displayed them with their wings like that. Remedies me of being a kid again. I’ll just put my missiles back in the box. I’d rather them not even give them us. Save them money and pass the savings in to the buyer
The re issues are exactly the same as the originals. So on the original where there is metal. The same is on these. The only difference is the colour of the plastic.
It's clear the mold has degraded over the years of so many reissues of the various seekers. It's especially noticeable around the canopy and cockpit, as well as the nose cone itself. The mold has worn out so much that those parts don't fit flush anymore. Despite that, it's still good value if you can get it at the original retail price

Wasn't going to pick this up, as I already a have a reissue Thundercracker, but I found the last one at Walmart and couldn't resist.... Plus the paint is totally different from the original. Looks like a new character when you put him with the old seekers.

I think originally they'd said it'd be around May and they've sent me two emails apologising for the delay and saying they're trying to get them to me asap. I've just sent them email asking what's causing the delay... Sigh. Had this same thing happen when I pre-ordered Legacy Jhiaxus from another online retailer (in fairness to Zavvi, they did get the Retro G1 Hotrod and Starscream dispatched pretty quickly).
Welp, Zavvi we're being completely f'n useless - even though I'd pre-ordered 2 months ago, I didn't get included in their initial quantity of stock when it came in (shame, as I'd previously found them pretty reliable). Cancelled my order with them and bought one off eBay instead for the same price. Love it! TC was actually the first ever Deception Jet I ever got as a kid (secondhand from another kid I knew, missing his fists, missiles and tailfins) so this feels pretty special!
I'm not a fan of the grey fists, when everything else is black. A very dark grey would be closer to the cartoon, but they should have picked one and stuck with it. Also, I think the outside of the arms should she been moulded in blue, rather than black, so the look like one solid colour (the same with the blue inserts fir Starscream). Unfortunately, the jets don't fit in the acrylic cases, as they must fit the original G1jets very snuggly and these might be a few millimetres bigger. I managed to just about for it in, but caused the case to bulge slightly, which I didn't feel comfortable leaving it in. The cars have plenty of room, however. I think the two clips on the Megatron are designed for it to sit inside the square holes in the chest, rather than over edges.
Just a question, why don't you try tucking in the wings so they are tighter against(less of a gap) the sides of the jet? I know it was possible to do that on the originals. Are the black holes sticking out more(where you place the wing pegs into) than the originals or does it have to do it just being so new?
I used to have the G1 as a kid but gave it and all the others away. In the last 10 years or so, i bought most of the originals back except this one. After watching your vid I've just ordered this one as (apart from missiles) is a like for like version of the original and i always did like the cartoon blue.
After talking out of my backside over Starscream, I can now HONESTLY say that tis was a good mould and the Megatron gun is a nice plus. :) Hopefully Skywarp will have the same treatment done with him soon. :)
@@ToysareRuss First they have to release him separately like they have done with Thundercracker and Starscream and give him the nice 86 Movie box treatment. Then a three pack could very likely follow. It would be interesting to see. :) Then who knows what will come after that, more seekers perhaps?
how's the plastic quality now days? I have both the orignal g1 and the official reissue from 2003, the 2003 version had strong plastics similar to g1 and the only problem i had is the plastic they used for the missiles/nullrays, which used a complete different blue compared with the sparkling blue they used for the rest of the body. (and of course the longer missiles/ray looked horrible) Also why this one is much ligher? Did they replace the diecast with plastic?
I know it's a matter of the toy came out first before the idea of a "transformer" was even a thing but God the parts forming just having like a bag of hands and parts that just come off makes my OCD go into hyperdrive
One thing. Just one thing. I always have the seeker wings facing back at an angle on my G1's. Do you not do that Russ? Still loved the Vid Russ. I absolutely adore these new colour schemes. The blue pitch on this is absolutely perfect 👌. I have a suggestion for those long coned-ended missiles though. I would cut them into a smaller length at the back. Or Middle. Just to make them fit better. I think Toy safety issues are the problem here. They might have to be that length to not be a choking Hazard.
I don’t think the new versions have them now you’ve said that. In fact I’m sure they don’t and I’ve done videos on them all. It’s because they’re based on the cartoon colours.
Not particularly thrilled about the cartoon colours (seeing as I was never a big fan of the cartoon redesigns to begin with) but I will admit that there’s something nice to seeing these molds in these decos. Only bums me out slightly that Hound’s first reissue in a good yonk is only toon themed, which is a bit of a shame for me since I really would like a crisp new G1 toy reissue of him. That aside, I’m not too sad about the missiles, since I prefer them to be functional. I think the Null Rays look passable given how the popular image of them is pretty long anyways, but the Cluster Bombs just look stupppppidddd.
So Russ, I think the lack of stickers really hurts these guys. There's not enough detail in the mold and as a result they look really plain (plane?) I ordered some G1 Skywarp stickers for my '86 re-issue so hopefully that tarts him up a bit. I also had a friend 3D resin print some proper size null rays which makes a huge difference as you'd expect. Still nice to have.
They’re not supposed to have stickers though. The purpose of these is to look like they did in the cartoons. In the cartoons they liked like this. All just one colour. It’s only the original toys that had the stickers. If you want the versions with stickers just look for the toys r us reissues from the 2000’s
By the way, the correct Transformers terminology for those ridiculous looking long shaped drill bit like weapons, are CLUSTER BOMBS. I'm sure a 3rd party company will come out with a mold design fix for those on Thundercracker/Starscream. The other thing you could maybe try is measure them up to the original ones and cut them down to match the shorter length. There would still be the issue of them not holding them in place once cut down. Maybe with a bit of finesse cutting you can recreate the little wedge at the tip so it catches the release clip in the firing holder.
I cut the tip of the bomb off. Then I cut 1 1/4" off the length of the bomb (FROM THE TOP DOWN) so I still had the back end that clicks into the launcher. Then I glued the tip back on to what was left of the bomb.
@@jessewahwah Just curious, where does the tip(with wedge) get caught inside the firing mount? Is it towards the back end inside the mount or more towards the front of the firing mount?
@@dmonsef The firing mount (launcher) is about 1 1/2" long. The missile (2 1/2" long) only plugs in about a 1/2" so it gets caught in the mount way towards the front. The amount of missile sticking out of the launcher is longer than the actual launcher.
Hopefully someday they remaster these G1 molds and modernize them just a bit, like Mattel did with the Origins He-Man line by adding some much needed articulation to the vintage figures.
I got him yesterday too. And your Thundercracker Gum-Nose looks also not so good. I like his colors and he ist good re issue, only his rockets are too thick and look, the classic one's are better.

Cool review! The original G1 had nice die cast metal , I wish this reissue didn’t have cheap plastic.

No it’s still die cast. Exactly the same as the original just a different colour.

Yeah the missile are ridiculous. They should just not even bother. It’ll be interesting to see how many more of these they do
Um those aren't tail wings they're flaps. They control up and down as well as roll

I just think they will keep making actual new figures. I can’t see how they could update the moulds. Especially as the originals have die cast parts
